Emmerich am Rhein

Emmerich (German: Bahnhof Emmerich) is a railway station in Emmerich am Rhein, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

The Emmerich Rhine Bridge (German: 'Rheinbrücke Emmerich') is a suspension bridge located in Emmerich am Rhein, Germany. Completed in 1965, it has a main span of 500 metres (1,600 ft), crossing the Rhine, carrying the Bundesstraße B 220, the federal highway between Emmerich am Rhein and Kleve. It is the longest suspension bridge in Germany.

's-Heerenberg is a city on the Dutch-German border, in the Province of Gelderland, Netherlands. It is located about 5 km north of the German Emmerich, and about 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) south of Doetinchem. It received city rights in 1379. 's-Heerenberg is the location of one of the most important castles of the Netherlands: Huis Bergh. The Huis Bergh contains a panel of the Archangel Gabriel from the famous altar piece Maestà by Duccio. The castle is surrounded to the west by a forest, part of the larger nature reserve Bergherbos. Mechteld ten Ham was accused of sorcery. She demanded a trial, and failed the water test, because she remained floating on the water. During torture, she confessed to being a witch, and was burnt at the stake on 25 July 1605. In 2004, a statue was revealed in her honour. In 2015, her statue was set on fire.Until 1821 's-Heerenberg was a separate municipality; it then became the administrative center of Bergh. Since 2005 it is part of the municipality of Montferland. The border canal 'Grenskanaal' constitutes the border to Germany. Industrial parks 't Goor and the Immenhorst are situated near this border. The annual Montferland Run road running competition is held in 's-Heerenberg every December. The race has been previously won by world-class runners like Haile Gebrselassie, Kenenisa Bekele, Lornah Kiplagat and Paula Radcliffe.

Bergh is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Gelderland. The municipality included the villages of 's-Heerenberg, Zeddam, and Stokkum. In 2005, it merged with Didam to form the new municipality of Montferland.

The Grafelijke Korenmolen van Zeddam (Countships grainmill of Zeddam) is a tower mill in Zeddam, the Netherlands, which has been restored to working order. The mill may have been built before 1441, making it the oldest windmill in existence in the Netherlands. It is listed as Rijksmonument number 9290.

Netterden was a separate municipality until 1821, when it was merged with Bergh. The village has a border crossing to Emmerich am Rhein. The Netterdenscher Kanal is the border canal separating both countries.

The Spyck–Welle train ferry was a train ferry on the Rhine between Spyck on the left (southern) bank and Welle on the right bank in the lower Rhine region of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It was established in 1865 by the Rhenish Railway Company on the Lower Left Rhine line from Cologne to Neuss, Krefeld, Cleves, Elten, Zevenaar and the Dutch North Sea ports.

Azewijn is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland and the municipality Montferland, and is about 3 km east of the town of 's-Heerenberg. The larger part of Azewijn is known as "Groot-Azewijn" (Greater Azewijn), with the hamlet "Klein-Azewijn" (Lesser Azewijn) about 1 km to the north.Azewijn was first mentioned in 1025 as 'Asawon'; but the etymology is unclear. The village belonged to the Kingdom of Prussia before it became part of the Netherlands in 1816. Population in 1840 was 525. St Matthews Church at Azewijn was built in 1891. It was burnt down by Germans on 31 March 1945, and was rebuilt in 1950–1951.

Moyland Castle (German: Schloss Moyland) is a moated castle in Bedburg-Hau in the district of Kleve, one of the most important neo-Gothic buildings in North Rhine-Westphalia. Its name derives from the Dutch word Mooiland which means "beautiful country". The name was probably coined by Dutch workers, whom the then-leaseholder Jacob van den Eger of the Lower Rhine brought to the property in 1307 to drain the surrounding wetlands. The building is now primarily a museum devoted to exhibiting the world's largest collection of work by artist Joseph Beuys. It is a popular destination on the Lower Rhine.

Griethausen is a village and former city in the municipality of Kleve, Kreis Kleve in the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The village is located at the Griethauser Altrhein. One of the points of interest in the village is the old steelbridge across. It served the railway to Spyck–Welle train ferry.

The Braamse Molen or Koenders Möl is a tower mill in Braamt, Gelderland, Netherlands which was built in 1856. One of only two mills in the Netherlands fitted with Beckers sails, the mill is listed as a Rijksmonument.
