Authorpe railway station

Authorpe is a village and civil parish in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated between the A16 and the A157 roads, 6 miles (10 km) south-east from Louth and 4.5 miles (7 km) north-west from Alford. Authorpe is mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Book as "Agetorp", in the South Riding of Lindsey Hundred of Louthesk. Noted are 5 villagers, 1 smallholder and 4 freemen, with 3 ploughlands and 8 acres (0.03 km2) of meadow. In 1066 Godric was Lord of the Manor, by 1086 transferred to Ansgot of Burwell, who was also Tenant-in-chief.The former church of Saint Margaret was built of greenstone, dated from the 15th century and was restored in 1848. It was declared redundant by the Diocese of Lincoln in July 1980, and demolished in 1982. Authorpe Hall Farm is a Grade II listed building built of red brick, dating from the 16th century with 18th-century additions, and 19th-century alterations.Authorpe railway station served the village between 1848 and 1964. Authorpe Hedgehog Care Centre is in the village.

Belleau is a hamlet and civil parish in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated approximately 7 miles (11 km) south-east of Louth, and 4 miles (6 km) north-west of Alford. The parish of Belleau includes the hamlet of Claythorpe. According to the census of 2001, the population of Belleau in that year was eighteen, living in eight households. At the time of the 2011 census, the population remained fewer than 100 and was included in the civil parish of Authorpe. The name of the village is taken from the spring of the rivulet Eau which rises there.The Grade II listed parish church of Belleau is dedicated to St John the Baptist. The church was almost entirely rebuilt in 1862. Near the church are the remains of an old manor house, the former home of the Earls of Lindsey. Other Bellau listed buildings are a pigeoncote and barn at Manor Farm. A notable Belleau resident was the Puritan leader Henry Vane the Younger. Vane bought the Belleau estate after his marriage to Frances, the daughter of Sir Christopher Wray. Roger Williams, the founder of the American state of Rhode Island, dedicated one of his books to Frances after he came to stay at Belleau; he shared an interest in religious liberty with Vane. Vane employed the radical clergyman John Wheelwright as a chaplain. England international footballer Beaumont Jarrett was Rector of Belleau from 1895 to his death in 1905.

Beesby is a village and (as Beesby in the Marsh) a former civil parish, now in the parish of Beesby with Saleby, in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. The village is situated approximately 4 miles (6 km) south-west from Mablethorpe, and just to the east of the A1104 road. In 1961 the parish had a population of 100. On 1 April 1987 the parish was abolished to form "Beesby with Saleby".The Grade II listed parish church is dedicated to St Andrew.

Aby for Claythorpe was a railway station on the East Lincolnshire Railway which served the hamlets of Aby and Claythorpe in Lincolnshire between 1848 and 1961. It originally opened as Claythorpe, but was renamed in 1885. Withdrawal of goods facilities took place in 1961, on the same day that the station was closed to passengers. The line through the station is closed.

South Reston is a village in the civil parish of Reston, in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated on the A157 road 5 miles (8.0 km) south-east from the town of Louth. In 1971 the parish had a population of 144. The parish of South Reston was enlarged by the abolition of the parish of Castle Carlton on 1 April 1936. On 1 April 1987 the parish was abolished and merged with North Reston to form "Reston".South Reston parish church was dedicated to Saint Edith; it was declared redundant by the Diocese of Lincoln in 1980, and demolished in 1982. The 15th-century octagonal font remains in the churchyard, as a sundial, and is Grade II listed.The Hall is a Grade II listed brick farmhouse dating from the 17th century.South Reston school was built in 1858 and survived long enough to celebrate its centenary.There is also a Methodist church and a public house, the Waggon and Horses.

Castle Hill is the name given to the once substantial motte and bailey, perhaps double bailey, apparently associated with the then new town of Castle Carlton in the county of Lincolnshire, some 7 miles south-east of Louth, between the villages of North and South Reston (grid reference TF395836). It was founded in the 12th century by Hugh Bardolf.

Claythorpe is a hamlet about 5 miles (8 km) north-west from the town of Alford, Lincolnshire, England, most notable for its water mill. The population is now included in the civil parish of Authorpe. Claythorpe Mill was for a time a restaurant but is now a visitor attraction with wildfowl gardens, animals and a cafe. It was known previously as Empire Mills when it was built as a corn mill in the 18th century. It was largely rebuilt in the 19th century, and the top floor was destroyed by fire and rebuilt again in 1890. Originally powered by a water wheel it has worked using a turbine since 1890, which is housed at the rear of the building. The steel wheel and gearing are still there, and it is a Grade II listed building. It was the last regularly working water mill in Lincolnshire, although it has not been in use since 1977.Claythorpe Manor (formerly Claythorpe Hall) is a Grade II listed red brick farmhouse dating from the 18th century.

Castle Carlton is a hamlet and former civil parish, now in the parish of Reston, in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is approximately 5 miles (8 km) south of Louth, and just north of the A157 road. In 1931 the parish had a population of 23. On 1 April 1936 the parish was abolished and merged with South Reston.At Castle Carlton, there is a wide moat surrounding a mound on which stood a twelfth-century motte and bailey castle, most likely wooden, founded by Justiciar Hugh Bardolph, who is said to have slain a monster.The village had established itself as a commercial centre by the thirteenth century, reputedly after Hugh Bardolph developed it as a "new town", and it was sometimes known as Market Carlton. Today, it is considered a deserted medieval village, or DMV.The church was dedicated to the Holy Cross and was a small Perpendicular building. It was demolished in 1902.

On 1 April 1987 the parish was abolished and merged with South Reston to form "Reston".North Reston is listed in the 1086 Domesday Book with 13 households, a meadow of 30 acres (0.12 km2), woodland of 100 acres (0.40 km2), 2 mills, and one church.The parish church is dedicated to Saint Edith and a Grade II* listed building. Dating from the 11th century, it was largely rebuilt using greenstone and ironstone in 1868 by R. T. Withers, with some reused early medieval material.North Reston Hall is a Grade II listed late 17th-century painted brick farmhouse with early 19th-century additions and some 20th-century alterations.
