Luffenham railway station

The Morcott Brook, also known locally as "The Foss", is a small watercourse in Rutland in the East Midlands of England. It is a tributary of the River Chater and part of the River Welland catchment.

South Luffenham is a village in the county of Rutland in the East Midlands of England. The population of the civil parish was 470 in 2021 increasing from 455 at the 2011 census.The village lies largely on the north side of the A6121 road from Uppingham to Stamford. It is divided into two by a small stream, the Foss, which is a tributary of the River Chater. The village has two pubs, the Boot Inn (formerly the Boot and Shoe) and the Coach House (previously the Halfway House), as well as the parish church and the village hall. South Luffenham Hall stands a short distance to the south-east of St Mary's church. There is a ruined windmill to the east of the village. Luffenham railway station was located to the north of the village and also served the neighbouring village of North Luffenham. The railway station opened in 1848 and closed in 1966. In fact, there were two railway stations in the parish, since Morcott station lay just within the South Luffenham parish boundary.

The Church of St Mary the Virgin is a church in South Luffenham, Rutland. It is a Grade II* listed building.

The Church of St John the Baptist is a church in North Luffenham, Rutland. It is Grade I listed.

Luffenham Heath Golf Course is a 75.1-hectare (186-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of South Luffenham in Rutland. It is the course of Luffenham Heath Golf Club. The course is located on several soil types, including calcareous grassland on Jurassic Lower Lincolnshire Limestone, together with acid heath, scrub and broad-leaved woodland. The dominant grasses are tor-grass and upright brome, and the site is notable for its butterflies its diverse insect species.

North Luffenham is a village in Rutland, in the East Midlands of England. The population of the civil parish at the 2001 census was 704, decreasing to 679 at the 2011 census. It lies to the north of the River Chater, 5 miles (8.0 km) east of Uppingham and 7 miles (11 km) west of Stamford. Located to the north of the village is St George's Barracks, formerly RAF North Luffenham.

St George's Barracks is a British Army installation near to the village of North Luffenham in Rutland, England. It is set to close in 2026.

Royal Air Force North Luffenham or more simply RAF North Luffenham is a former Royal Air Force station in Rutland, England. It is near to the villages of Edith Weston and North Luffenham.

North Luffenham Quarry is a 4.6-hectare (11-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of North Luffenham in Rutland.This is calcareous grassland on thin soils derived from Jurassic Lincolnshire Limestone. Flora include basil thyme, marjoram and bee orchid. There are increasing areas of scrub, and the mixture of habitats has a diverse variety of insect species.The site is private land with no public access.

Luffenham Heath is an 18-hole golf course near South Luffenham in Rutland, England. Designed by Harry Colt, it began under the patronage of the Earl of Ancaster who had exchanged fields in South Luffenham for common land on the heath. The opening event in 1911, witnessed by over a thousand spectators, was an exhibition match between James Braid and Harry Vardon. The club initially attracted an aristocratic membership. Viscount Castlereagh was club captain in 1912 and 1932, on the latter occasion bearing the title of Marquis of Londonderry. In 1928, the Prince of Wales, who later became King Edward VIII, was invited to become captain. The club applied to be allowed to add the word Royal as a prefix to the club's name, but the request was refused. Luffenham Heath Golf Course is a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Morcott railway station is a former station in Rutland, near the village of Morcott. Parliamentary approval was gained in 1846 by the directors of the London and Birmingham Railway for a branch from Rugby to the Syston and Peterborough Railway near Stamford. In the same year the company became part of the London and North Western Railway. The line opened in 1851 but Morcott was not opened until 1898. To gain a more direct route the LNWR had built a line from Seaton Junction to Yarwell junction near Wansford on its Northampton to Peterborough line, in 1879, thus bypassing the section to Luffenham railway station. Although it was now of little importance, it remained double and Morcott Station was built as a double line station with two platforms. The station buildings and platforms were of timber construction and there was a footbridge.A siding was provided with loading docks for both horses and carriages. Oddly this could only be accessed from the Luffenham line and it was initially controlled by ground frame. Some time later a crossover from the other line was added along with a signal box. The train service was around five passenger trains per day, with very few freight trains. In 1907 the section was singled when the second platform, waiting-room, footbridge and signal box were all removed. Entrance lines to the siding are provided for each direction from the single line, with facing point locks. At grouping in 1923 it became part of the London Midland and Scottish Railway. Freight services finished on 4 May 1964 and passenger on 6 June 1966.

The Rutland Roman villa is a Romano-British villa site in Rutland, England. The site was listed as a scheduled monument by Historic England on 23 November 2021. The villa includes the first example of a mosaic in Britain which depicts scenes from Homer's Iliad.A geophysical survey of the site in 2021 showed evidence of a large villa complex including indications of a formal garden, a bath house, perhaps a chapel and two mausolea. Further excavations in 2022 uncovered the bath house as well as a second mosaic, possibly from a dining area of the villa.This type of large luxurious villa complex is unusual in this part of Roman Britain (see List of Roman villas in England)
