Thurrock (UK Parliament constituency)

The State Cinema is a Grade II* Listed building in Grays, Essex. Designed by F. G. M. Chancellor under Matcham & Co., it opened in 1938 as one of the most modern cinemas of its type at the time with seating for 2200 people. As a cinema, it closed in 1988 but has held numerous events and been used for various purposes since. Historic England describe the cinema as being "one of the best preserved of the super cinemas of the late 1930s." In recent years, the building has been vandalised and pilfered from and has suffered water damage from a failing roof system. Its decay was so bad that it was entered onto Historic England's Heritage at Risk Register on which it was assessed as being "very bad". The building was bought by Wetherspoons in 2018 for conversion to public house. Works commenced in 2019 but stalled in 2020. The building has been put up for sale by Wetherspoons as of October 2022. The building was sold pre-auction in May 2023 to London based businessman Naveed Ahmad via his property development company London Developments Global for an undisclosed amount.

Grays railway station is on the London, Tilbury and Southend line serving the town of Grays, Essex. It is 19 miles 70 chains (32.0 km) down the line from London Fenchurch Street via Rainham and is located at the junction where a branch line from Upminster via Ockendon re-joins the route from Rainham. Its three-letter station code is GRY. It was opened in 1854. The station and all trains serving it are currently operated by c2c. Although outside the London fare zones, the station became part of the Oyster card pay-as-you-go network in 2010.

Thurrock Town Hall is a newest part of municipal complex in New Road in Grays, Essex, a town in England. The complex accommodates the offices and meeting place of Thurrock Council.

The White Hart is a Grade II listed pub at Kings Walk, Grays, Essex, RM17 6HR. It was built in 1938 for Charringtons Brewery, and replaced an 18th-century building of the same name. The architect is believed to be Edward Fincham. The bar is considered by some to be haunted.It was Grade II listed in 2015 by Historic England. The pub is currently closed and seeking new management.

Grays Thurrock Chalk Pit is a 17.3-hectare (43-acre) Site of Special Scientific Interest in Grays in Essex. It is part of Chafford Gorges Nature Park, which is managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust.Extraction of chalk finished in the 1920s, and since then colonisation of the site has created a range of woodland, grassland and scrub habitats which are important for invertebrates. There is also an area of open water. Beetles include two Red Book species, Mordellistena humeralis and Mordellistena neuwaldeggiana.There is access to the site from Devonshire Road and Hogg Lane.

Thames Gateway is a term applied to an area around the Thames Estuary in the context of discourse around regeneration and further urbanisation. The term was first coined by the UK government and applies to an area of land stretching 70 kilometres (43 mi) east from inner east and south-east London on both sides of the River Thames and the Thames Estuary. It stretches from Westferry in Tower Hamlets to the Isle of Sheppey/Southend-on-Sea and extends across three ceremonial counties.

The New Recreation Ground was a football stadium on Bridge Road, Grays, Essex, England, and was the home ground of Grays Athletic. Prior to it being closed, the capacity stood at 4,100, of which 1,000 was seated. Grays Athletic moved to the ground, originally known as the Recreation Ground in 1906. Previously the ground had been home to Southern League club Grays United, but they had merged into Athletic. The record attendance of 9,500 was set in 1959 during an FA Cup tie with Chelmsford City. In 1981 the Club Patron, Mr. Ron Billings, ensured the future of Grays Athletic at the Rec by purchasing the ground. The ground was redeveloped at the beginning of the 2004–05 season in order to meet the standards set by the Football Conference, and was renamed the New Recreation Ground, often nicknamed The New Rec. Below the bar area was an indoor 5-a-side AstroTurf pitch. This was hired out to the public and also hosts various community schemes. After the death of Ron Billings, the club was unable to negotiate viable terms for a new lease with the Billings family, and the ground was redeveloped for housing. Grays Athletic had planned to move to a new stadium, but at the end of the 2009–10 season announced they would groundshare at East Thurrock United's Rookery Hill.

Grays Convent High School is a voluntary aided girls' Roman Catholic secondary school in Grays, Essex, England. It is under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Brentwood's South Essex deanery, and is a specialist language college. The school was originally founded in 1899 as the Convent Day School by the Sisters of La Sainte Union des Sacrés-Coeurs and was located on Orsett Road. In 1906 the school relocated to the convent situated in nearby College Avenue, which was located at the current school site. In 1969 it became a voluntary aided comprehensive, being expanded in 1972 with a student population of 666 by 1977. By 2003 it was a Beacon school and was providing a "very good" MFL curriculum, with students' results in French and Spanish being "well above average" according to Ofsted. This likely led to the school's specialisation into a language college, which it had achieved by 2008.Since 2013 the school has a good Ofsted grade, previously being outstanding since 2008. The school's population has grown dramatically from its founding, originally only having three students on roll. Currently the school is oversubscribed with a capacity of 620 and a total population of 656 students as of 2021. All of these students are girls, with boys being excluded from the school's education. 21% of students are eligible for free school meals and 24.2% speak English as a second language.

Grays (or Grays Thurrock) is the largest town in the borough and unitary authority area of Thurrock, in the ceremonial county of Essex, England. The town, which is both a former civil parish and one of Thurrock's traditional Church of England parishes, is located on the north bank of the River Thames. It is approximately 20 miles (32 km) to the east of central London, and 2 miles (3.2 km) east of the M25 motorway. Its economy is linked to Port of London industries, its own offices, retail and the Lakeside Shopping Centre at West Thurrock.

Belmont Castle was a neo-Gothic mansion near Grays in the English county of Essex. Built c. 1795 to designs by the little-known Thomas Jeffery, and surrounded by extensive pleasure grounds, it was the most prominent building in the parish, but was demolished in 1943 to make way for a chalk quarry. The castle and its occupants had played a significant role in the town's life for over a hundred years. The name has been adopted by a primary school - Belmont Castle Academy.

The Hathaway Academy, formerly the Grays School Media Arts College (TGSMAC or Grays School), is a coeducational, non-selective secondary school with academy status that is located in Grays, Essex, England. It is currently part of the Academy Transformation Trust. A school has existed on the Hathaway Road site since 1931, when the John Henry Burrows Central Council School moved from nearby Bridge Road. The school became a secondary technical in 1945 and a comprehensive school in 1971. In 1993, it was given grant-maintained status and was renamed the Grays School. In 2004, it specialised and became the Grays School Media Arts College, which closed in June 2013 with the subsequent opening of the current academy-status school. The academy school has since retained TGSMAC's specialisms, which are digital media and performing arts.Since 2015, the school has held an OFSTED rating of "good"; from 2009 it was rated "satisfactory/requires improvement", and between 2007 and 2009, it was rated "special measures". The pupil demography is mostly White British, with a large Eastern European population. Around 30% of the pupils speak English as an additional language, a higher proportion than the national average. As of 2021, 64.2% of pupils were boys and 35.8% were girls, and there were 782 pupils on the roll.

The Dell is a house in Grays, Thurrock, Essex, built in concrete—one of the earliest houses in Britain to be built in this material. It was built on the instructions of Alfred Russel Wallace, who lived in Grays from 1872 until 1876.
