Hackney North and Stoke Newington (UK Parliament constituency)

West Hackney is a district in the London Borough of Hackney, situated on the eastern side of Ermine Street, the major Roman Road better known as the A10. The area was part of the Ancient Parish and subsequent Metropolitan Borough of Hackney, but has come to be seen by many as an informal extension of Stoke Newington, as well as a sub-district of Hackney proper. Rectory Road, the principal railway station, lies 4.3 miles (6.9 km) northeast of Charing Cross.

Stoke Newington Common is an open space in the London Borough of Hackney. It lies between Brooke Road to the south and Northwold Road to the north, straddling a railway line and the busy Rectory Road. The Common is 2.15 hectares (5.3 acres) in area.The Common was originally called Cockhanger Green but underwent a series of name changes. The Common is part of West Hackney, an area of Hackney that is often informally also described as part of Stoke Newington.

Rectory Road is a London Overground station on the Lea Valley lines in the West Hackney area of the London Borough of Hackney, east London. It is 3 miles 64 chains (6.1 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street and is between Hackney Downs and Stoke Newington stations. Its three-letter station code is REC and it is in Travelcard zone 2. Trains run south to Liverpool Street and north to either Cheshunt or Enfield Town. The ticket office, street buildings, staircases and platform shelters were all built in the mid-1980s in works funded by the Greater London Council (along with other stations in the "Tube-less" borough of Hackney). These elaborate structures were very different from the low-maintenance changes further up the line at the same time, and feature the British Rail logo worked into the brickwork at street-level. In 2015 the station and all services that call there were transferred from Abellio Greater Anglia operation to London Overground. The station was also added to the Tube map.

The Tower Theatre Company is a performing non-professional acting group based in a building in Northwold Road, Stoke Newington, having moved there in April 2018 from the St Bride Institute (on the site of the former Bridewell Palace), in the City of London. The group presents about 18 productions each year in London, either at their base theatre, or at other small theatres in the London area. During the summer months they also perform touring productions, with regular appearances at the open-air Théâtre de Verdure, which is in the Bois de Boulogne in Paris, and at the Minack Theatre in Cornwall. The acting company was founded as the Tavistock Repertory Company in 1932, at the Tavistock Little Theatre in Tavistock Square, Bloomsbury (and so has nothing to do with the town of Tavistock in Devon). In 1952 it moved to its own premises in Islington at Canonbury Tower which included a 156-seat theatre known as the Tower Theatre. Over the years it has mounted nearly 1600 productions. The Tower Theatre's productions have always been mounted in publicly licensed theatres with tickets sold to the general public rather than simply to members. The company mounted early productions of Endgame by Samuel Beckett (1961, the first ever production to be designed by William Dudley) and The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter (May 1959). Both playwrights became major supporters of the Tower Theatre Company in later life. Actors to have worked with the company include Michael Gambon, Sian Phillips, Tom Courtenay and Alfred Molina.The lease in Canonbury expired in 2003 and the company spent 15 years hiring theatre space at a number of venues, particularly the Bridewell Theatre, while searching for suitable new premises. It commissioned a new theatre at a site just off Curtain Road in Shoreditch, but due to funding difficulties it abandoned plans to proceed with that project. On 6 August 2008 archaeologists from the Museum of London excavating the site, prior to construction, announced that they had found the footings of a polygonal structure which they believe to be the remains of the north-eastern corner of the foundations of the first permanent theatre ever built in England.

Gibson Gardens is a historic tenement block of flats in Stoke Newington in London, England. The flats were built by the Metropolitan Association for Improving the Dwellings of the Industrious Classes in 1880 and named in honour of Thomas Field Gibson, who was a Director of the Association from its inception. It originally comprised three brick blocks of flats and a row of 'cottages' which originally housed older relations of people living in the blocks. A further block (the 'paddlesteamer' block) was built later. They were originally called Gibson Buildings and were some of the first quality dwellings for working and lower-middle-class families in London. The buildings are located near the corner of Northwold Road and Stoke Newington High Street (A10), close to Stoke Newington Common. They were renovated in 1975 but many period features survive, including the rare cobblestone street surfaces. Gibson Gardens was a location for shooting the video of the 2007 single Back to Black by Amy Winehouse and the 2015 film Legend starring Tom Hardy. Scenes from the "Screen Two" presentation "Heading Home" (1990) starring Gary Oldman, Joely Richardson, Steven Dillane & Stella Gonet was also shot in the Gardens. The alleged Russian spy Anna Chapman and her husband lived in Gibson Gardens for a period around 2002.

Tawhid Boys School is the first independent Islamic boys' school in the Stoke Newington area. The school was founded in June 2000 (Rabi-al Awwal 1421). Moulana Yusuf Motala, head and founder of Darul-Uloom, Bury, Greater Manchester, inaugurated the school in September 2000. The total number of students in Tawhid exceeds 100 between the ages of 10 and 16, with 13 teachers.The school was established with the aim of providing excellent Islamic and academic education. The school is managed by the Shura, the management committee. The number of students has increased over the years.Tawhid means "the oneness of God".

Campbell Works is the creative partnership of artists Neil Taylor and Harriet Murray established in 2004. It runs a programme of contemporary art exhibitions, public engagement projects, publications and education schemes. By initiating and developing collaborative frameworks and creating a platform for new curatorial projects, Campbell Works acts as a meeting point for ideas and explores contextual relationships between art, spaces and people.

Stoke Newington is a London Overground station on the Lea Valley lines, serving the Stoke Newington area of the London Borough of Hackney. It is 4 miles 16 chains (6.8 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street and is situated between Rectory Road and Stamford Hill. Its three-letter station code is SKW and it is in Travelcard zone 2. The station is on the Seven Sisters branch of the Lea Valley Lines, with services out of Liverpool Street running to either Cheshunt or Enfield Town in the north. A smoked glass/steel-framed ticket office was built in the early 1980s to replace the original ticket hall on the same site. The platforms are located in a narrow cutting and are accessed by uncovered concrete staircases also installed at this time. In 2015 the station transferred to London Overground operation and was added to the Tube map.

Shacklewell was a hamlet that developed on Shacklewell Lane in the modern London Borough of Hackney. The settlement core is now often seen as being part of Dalston which was originally a separate hamlet 500 yards to the south and also part of the Ancient Parish of Hackney. Shacklewell took its name from "some springs or wells which were of high repute in former days, but the very site of which is now forgotten."Shacklewell has never been an administrative unit, and partly for that reason its extent has only ever been nebulously understood. For a brief time its sphere of influence extended north and north-west beyond its village core but Shacklewell is now mostly forgotten as a place name in everyday use, though the historic street pattern of the original hamlet remains.

Cazenove is a ward in the London Borough of Hackney and the area forms part of the Hackney North and Stoke Newington constituency. Its name derives from the Cazenove Road which runs through the ward. The population of the ward was 13,392 at the 2011 Census.

The Aziziye Mosque (Turkish: Aziziye Camii) is a mosque in Stoke Newington, London. The mosque was funded by the UK Turkish Islamic Association and the conversion began in 1983. Turks who had once felt reluctant to attend a ‘non-Turkish’ mosque welcomed the congregation as services were provided in the Turkish language rather than in English or Arabic. The total capacity of its Ottoman style mosque is 2,000 people. The institution includes a Halal butcher, a weekend school (Aziziye Education Centre), a wedding hall and a restaurant.Originally built as a cinema, it first opened in 1913 as the Apollo Picture House, was reopened in 1933 as the Ambassador Cinema and from 1974 played martial arts films and softcore sex films as the Astra Cinema, before closing in 1983. It is among Hackney Council's "Locally Listed Buildings."

The Petchey Academy is an academy located in the Shacklewell area, and is based on the site of the former Kingsland School in the London Borough of Hackney, where its LEA is The Learning Trust. Named after businessman, philanthropist, and former football club director and owner Jack Petchey who sponsored the academy, It is a comprehensive high school and sixth form for boys and girls aged from 11 to 18.The academy is non-denominational and offers five subject categories. These are: Core (English, mathematics and science), Human Spirit (History, Sociology, Religious Studies) Wider World (Geography and Foreign Languages), Society and The Arts (Music, Drama, Art), and Enterprise and Innovation (Food Technology, Business, DT, PE, Computing).The Petchey Academy's uniform is a black blazer with blue accenting, white shirt, blue tie with a single coloured strip (corresponds to the student's house), black socks, black shoes and black trousers, with a tartan skirt option for girls. The Academy has gained a number of awards including ECM Gold, Inclusion Award and National Healthy School Status.
