Macclesfield (UK Parliament constituency)

Adlington is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. It is known as Eduluintune in the Domesday Book. According to the 2001 census the civil parish had a population of 1,081 people across 401 households. There is a mixed, non-denominational primary school in the village.A railway station, located on the Manchester–Stoke-On-Trent line, is used mainly by commuters to Manchester and Stockport.

There is a ticket machine, which passengers must use to obtain a promise to pay or purchase their ticket before boarding the train.

Mill House is a former country house in the parish of Adlington, Cheshire, England. It is dated 1603, and was built by Sir Uriah Legh, of the Legh family of Adlington, as a dower house. Alterations were made to it in the middle of the 18th century and in the early 20th century. It is a timber-framed building with some plastered brick infill; it has a Kerridge stone-slate roof. The house is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.

Adlington Hall is a country house near Adlington, Cheshire. The oldest part of the existing building, the Great Hall, was constructed between 1480 and 1505; the east wing was added in 1581. The Legh family has lived in the hall and in previous buildings on the same site since the early 14th century. After the house was occupied by Parliamentary forces during the Civil War, changes were made to the north wing, including encasing the Great Hall in brick, inserting windows, and installing an organ in the Great Hall. In the 18th century the house was inherited by Charles Legh who organised a series of major changes. These included building a new west wing, which incorporated a ballroom, and a south wing with a large portico. It is possible that Charles Legh himself was the architect for these additions. He also played a large part in planning and designing the gardens, woodland and parkland, which included a number of buildings of various types, including a bridge known as the Chinese Bridge that carried a summerhouse. The hall was reconstructed and reduced in size in 1928. The work included demolition of much of the west wing, building a screen wall to fill the gap, and removing parts of the south wing. During the 19th and early 20th centuries the gardens, parkland and woodland became overgrown, and the condition of some of the buildings in them deteriorated. From the middle of the 20th century, work has been undertaken to restore some of the parkland and its buildings, and to create new formal gardens near the hall. Adlington Hall is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. The stable block has been converted for modern uses; part of it is listed at Grade II*, and the rest is at Grade II. The grounds contain eleven Grade II listed buildings, and the grounds themselves have been designated at Grade II* on the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. The hall is open to the public for visits and guided tours, and parts of the building can be hired for weddings and social functions.

Bonis Hall is a former country house to the north of Prestbury, Cheshire, England. It was the seat of the Pigot family until 1746, when it was bought by Charles Legh of Adlington. In the early part of the 19th century it was remodelled and used by the Legh family as a dower house. In the early 20th century the exterior was pebbledashed, and castellations were added It is constructed in brick, with Kerridge stone-slate roofs. The house is in two storeys and has a seven-bay front with coped gables surmounted by ball and urn finials. On top of the building is a square tower with a pyramidal roof surmounted by a hexagonal bellcote with a copper cupola and weathervane. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. The Duke of York (later King George VI) occasionally stayed at Bonis Hall with its owner Sir Robert Burrows.It has since been converted for varied uses, mainly as offices and studios, by several companies. It was for some years the Staff College for the Midland Bank. It then became The Bonis Hall Country Club. During this time a swimming pool was added and also a large entertainment room cum discoteque. This modern addition was in stark contrast to the existing structure. It then became home to the Manchester branch of Royds Advertising Group, who converted the discoteque into their drawing office. This was extended, in matching style, as more space was required. It is today (2023) the Manchester Campus of yet another advertising company, the McCann Worldgroup. This company has undertaken many further alterations and additions to the site. The disco/drawing office has been replaced by a large, two story oval structure in steel and glass, which now links the main building with the coaching house.

Macclesfield Rural District was a rural district of Cheshire, England from 1894 to 1974. Macclesfield as a Municipal Borough and Bollington as an urban district formed an enclave which was surrounded by Macclesfield RD. The district was formed in 1894 based on Macclesfield rural sanitary district by the Local Government Act 1894. It was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972 in 1974 and became part of the new Macclesfield borough, which was itself abolished in 2009.

Prestbury is a village and civil parish in Cheshire, England, about 1.5 miles (3 km) north of Macclesfield. At the 2001 census, it had a population of 3,324; it increased slightly to 3,471 at the 2011 census. Alongside fellow "Cheshire Golden Triangle" villages, Wilmslow and Alderley Edge, it is one of the more sought-after places in the north. The ecclesiastical parish is almost the same as the former Prestbury local government ward which consisted of the civil parishes of Prestbury, Adlington and Mottram St Andrew.

Prestbury railway station is a station which serves the village of Prestbury, Cheshire, England. It was opened on 24 November 1845 by the London & North Western Railway.

Woodford Aerodrome (ICAO: EGCD) is a former airfield and aircraft factory at Woodford, Greater Manchester, England, 6 NM (11 km; 6.9 mi) north of Macclesfield. It was opened by the Avro company after the First World War and became an important production centre for military aircraft in the Second World War. Notable planes made at the factory include the Avro Anson, Avro Lancaster, Avro Shackleton and Avro Vulcan. After almost 80 years of aircraft manufacture at the site, Woodford was closed and sold off by BAE Systems in 2011.

Avro Heritage Museum is an aviation museum in Woodford, Greater Manchester, England, that opened on 13 November 2015. It is located at the former Woodford Aerodrome, and it replaces the former Avro Heritage Centre.

St Oswald's Church is in Bollington Cross, Bollington, Cheshire, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Macclesfield, the archdeaconry of Macclesfield, and the diocese of Chester. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

Butley Hall is a former large house, now converted into flats, in the village of Prestbury, Cheshire. It was rebuilt in 1777 for Peter Downes. The house was extended by an addition to the north in the 19th century, and converted into flats during the 20th century. It is constructed in sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings, it has Kerridge stone-slate roofs, and five brick chimneys. The main front of the house is in two storeys and seven bays. The central three bays protrude forwards and are surmounted by a triangular pediment. On each side of the front are wings with Venetian windows. To the rear of the house is the front of an earlier three-storeyed house dating from the 17th century. The house is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.
