Åker's Canal (Swedish: Åkers kanal), previous known as Åkersström, is a waterway in Sweden. It was originally a natural river, but was renamed after having been regulated in the 19th century to be used as a canal.

Österåker Municipality (Swedish: Österåkers kommun, IPA: [ˈœ̂sːtɛrˌoːkɛʂ kʊˈmʉːn]) is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Åkersberga, with a population of 26,727 (2005). From 1974 to 1982 Österåker was part of Vaxholm Municipality. Its location by the Stockholm archipelago, in the Roslagen area, attracts both people who settles here, often commuting to Stockholm, and visiting tourists. Österåker boasts several golf courses, many possibilities for canoeing, horse riding, fishing and other nature activities. Österåker also has a historical significance, with at least three notable castles from the 17th and 18th centuries, with histories tracing even further back. Sweden's once largest quartz mine, the Härsbacka mine, lays within the municipality.Like many other municipalities making up Metropolitan Stockholm, Österåker has a significant outward-commuting mainly to Stockholm, with some 13,000 commuters.

Resarö is an island in the Stockholm archipelago and a locality in Vaxholm Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden. The island is divided into four populated areas: Överby, Ytterby, Storäng, Engarn and Ladvik, of which Ytterby notably is the most famous one because of its local mine. It had 3,212 inhabitants in 2020. Resarö includes the hamlet of Ytterby, famous for the discovery of several rare-earth elements in a local mine. At its southern end, the island is crossed by county road 274, with a bridge to the south linking it to the island of Kullö and, via that, to the Vaxholm urban area. To the west, a bridge links to the mainland via the islet of Bullerholmen. Local roads connect the county road with centres of population to the north of the island. Except for the winter months, passenger ships of the Waxholmsbolaget call at a pier in Ytterby, providing a connection to Vaxholm town and Stockholm city.

Ytterby (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈʏ̂tːɛrˌbyː]) is a village on the Swedish island of Resarö, in Vaxholm Municipality in the Stockholm archipelago. Today the residential area is dominated by suburban homes. The Swedish name of the village translates literally into "outer village". Ytterby is the single richest source of elemental discoveries in the world; the chemical elements yttrium (Y), terbium (Tb), erbium (Er), and ytterbium (Yb) are all named after Ytterby, and the elements holmium (Ho), scandium (Sc), thulium (Tm), tantalum (Ta), and gadolinium (Gd) were also first discovered there. Local roads connect Ytterby to county road 274 and hence the mainland. Except for the winter months, passenger ships of the Waxholmsbolaget call at a pier in Ytterby, providing a connection to Vaxholm town and Stockholm. Ytterby is as well served by several local bus lines of the north east SL district, connecting the area directly to Stockholms Östra station.

Kullö is an island in the Stockholm archipelago in Sweden. It is situated in Vaxholm Municipality and Stockholm County. In 2010, Kullö was also considered an urban area or locality, as defined by Statistics Sweden, and at that time had 889 inhabitants. In 2020 it was redefined as part of the Vaxholm urban area, and more recent population figures are no longer available. Since 1965 the island has been crossed by county road 274, with a bridge to the south linking it to the island of Vaxön and the rest of the Vaxholm urban area. At the other end of the island, a bridge links to the island of Resarö and, via that, to the mainland. Large portions of the island comprise the Kullö Naturreservat, which translates directly to Kullö Nature Reserve. The Kullö Nature Reserve's purpose is to preserve the traditional landscape of the island as well as offering visitors to immerse themselves into the typical swedish island landscape. The island has one bus stop, called Kullö, which is trafficked by several bus routes including route 670, which is the main communal link between the municipal of Vaxholm and the city of Stockholm.

Vaxholm Municipality (Swedish: Vaxholms kommun, semi-officially Vaxholms stad) is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. The municipal slogan is "Vaxholm – the capital of the archipelago", due to its central location in the archipelago. Its seat is located in the city of Vaxholm. From 1974 to 1984 Vaxholm was united with Österåker Municipality, making up a municipality called Vaxholm, but with the seat in Åkersberga. After the "divorce" the new Vaxholm Municipality came out larger than it had been before the amalgamation. The municipality prefers to style itself City of Vaxholm.

Kodjupet is a strait in Sweden's Stockholm Archipelago. Along with the Oxdjupet strait, it is one of two shipping routes connecting the open sea to the city of Stockholm, passing either side of the island of Rindö. Today the Kodjupet is suitable only for smaller vessels, due to its narrow and twisting nature together with a minimum water depth of 3.3 metres (11 ft), but it was formerly the principal route for commercial and naval ships. It passes close offshore of the town of Vaxholm. Although winding in nature, the strait runs broadly from north to south on its route from the sea to the city. It is flanked by the islands of Resarö, Edholma and Vaxön to the west, and Stegesund-Hästholmen, Skarpö and Rindö to the east. The very narrow Stegesundet strait provides a short-cut to the northern part of the Kodjupet strait, passing between the islands of Stegesund-Hästholmen and Skarpö. In 1548, Gustav Vasa constructed the Vaxholm Fortress on an islet in the middle of the southern part of the Kodjupet strait between Vaxön and Rindö. The Oxdjupet strait was, at the same time, artificially reduced in depth in order to prevent its use. Thus, the fortress was strategically situated to defend the city of Stockholm against shipborne attacks from the sea. The fortress has resisted several attacks, has been rebuilt on a number of occasions, and still stands. By the latter half of the 19th century, the Kodjupet strait was proving problematic for the period's larger ships, and in 1879 the main shipping route into Stockholm was diverted to use the Oxdjupet strait, which was dredged to remove its previous artificial obstructions. The strait is crossed by the Vaxholmsleden car ferry, which connects Vaxholm to Rindö, and by the Kastellet ferry, an electrically powered cable ferry that provides passenger access to Vaxholm Fortress.

Edholma is an island in the Stockholm archipelago in Sweden. It is situated to the north of the island of Vaxön, to the south of the island of Resarö, to the east of the island of Kullö, and to the west of the Kodjupet strait. Administratively, it is in Vaxholm Municipality and Stockholm County. The island has approximately 100 holiday homes and five permanent residences. Edholma has no road connection to the mainland or other islands. It is served throughout the year by passenger ships of the Waxholmsbolaget, which call at a pier on the eastern end of the island, providing a connection to Vaxholm town and Stockholm city. Historically the island was farmed, with the farm including 35 acres (14 ha) of arable land and 65 acres (26 ha) of forest. Because of the island's proximity to the Kodjupet strait, which at the time was the main route from the sea to Stockholm, Edholma was fortified from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Since 1908 the island has been developed with summer houses, and the farm area was divided up for the same purpose at the end of the 1950. The farm's windmill still exists and has been heritage-listed since 1983.

Norrö is a locality situated in Österåker Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden with 305 inhabitants in 2010. It is situated some 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) north of the town of Åkersberga.
