Anderson–Thompson House, also known as Thompson–Schultz House , is a historic home located in Franklin Township, Marion County, Indiana. It was built between about 1855 and 1860, and is a 1+1⁄2-story, ell shaped, Gothic Revival style dwelling. It rests on a low brick foundation, has a steeply-pitched gable roof with ornately carved brackets, and is sheathed in board and batten siding.: 2–3 It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Poplar Grove, Indiana is a neighborhood in Indianapolis located in southeastern Marion County. Poplar Grove is situated 7 miles (11.3 km) southeast of downtown Indianapolis and is located just beyond the eastern border of Beech Grove, Indiana. In the 1800s, Poplar Grove was the location of a railroad post office.

Franklin Township is one of the nine townships of Marion County, Indiana, United States. Located in the southeast corner of the county, it has been subsumed into the city of Indianapolis along with most of the rest of the county. It contains the communities of Acton, Wanamaker, and the eastern portion of the excluded city of Beech Grove. Franklin Township was organized in the 1820s. Franklin Township is one of the last areas in Marion County to see heavy suburban land development from the outward expansion of Indianapolis. This is primarily because of a history of family farms in the area, but is also due to various civic efforts to maintain a rural atmosphere in the area over time. The population of the township as of the 2020 census was 65,788 up from 32,080 in 2000. The twofold increase in population ranks Franklin Township as the fastest growing of Marion County's nine townships during that timeframe. The township has a median income of $70,000.

The Beech Grove Shops is a railway maintenance facility in Beech Grove, Indiana, outside Indianapolis. Beech Grove is Amtrak's primary maintenance facility. It also contains a very large freight yard.

The Indianapolis Baptist Temple is an Independent Baptist church based in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. The church's building was seized by the U.S. federal government after the church refused to withhold taxes from employees' paychecks for 16 years. The founding pastor of the church, Greg J. Dixon, died in October 2019 aged 87.

The Big Run Baptist Church and Cemetery, also known as Franklin Township Historical Society, is a historic Baptist church and cemetery located at 6510 South Franklin Road in Franklin Township, Marion County, Indiana. The church was built in 1871 as a Baptist meeting house and served the church congregation until 1977. It is a one-story, gable front brick building with Italianate style design elements. The associated cemetery was established in 1854, with one stone dated to 1841. The most recent burial was in 1986. Also on the property is a contributing privy constructed about 1920. The Franklin Township Historical Society acquired the property and now uses the building as a historical museum.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

The Marion County Fair is an annual fair held in Marion County, Indiana, United States. The fair was first held in 1930 and usually runs for ten days in late June, except that in 2020, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the fair was moved to July 11–19. The fair maintains a rural theme despite being located in the most populous county in Indiana, with 4-H exhibits, live music, traditional dance shows, and historical displays. There was no fair between 1942 and 1945 because of World War II.

Franklin Central High School (FCHS) is a public four-year high school in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. It is the only high school in the Franklin Township Community School Corporation.

The Richmond Hill explosion took place on November 10, 2012, in the Richmond Hill subdivision in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. The home of Monserrate Shirley was the center of the explosion that resulted in the deaths of next-door neighbors John "Dion" Longworth and his wife Jennifer (née Buxton), the injuries of seven others, and $4 million in property damage. Prosecutors alleged that the natural gas explosion was intentionally set to collect insurance money. Shirley, her boyfriend Mark Leonard, and three others were convicted and sentenced to prison on various charges, including felony murder for Leonard.
