Waterford is a town in New London County, Connecticut. It is named after Waterford, Ireland. The town is part of the Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region. The population was 19,571 at the 2020 census. The town center is listed as a census-designated place (CDP) and had a population of 3,074 at the 2020 census.

The Graniteville Historic District is a mainly residential historic district in Waterford, Connecticut. It is ranged along Rope Ferry Road, near granite quarries that were once a major industry in the town. Most of the 31 historical buildings in the district are plain residences occupied by quarry workers; also included are the c. 1878 Graniteville School at 239 Rope Ferry Road, and the house of John Palmer, one of the proprietors of the quarries, at 218 Rope Ferry Road. His house, a c. 1860 Italianate updating of an older house, is the most elaborate house in the district. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

Waterford is a census-designated place (CDP) comprising the primary village in the town of Waterford, New London County, Connecticut, United States. It is in the southeast part of the town, bordered to the east by the city of New London. U.S. Route 1 (Boston Post Road) passes east–west through the community. As of the 2010 census, the CDP had a population of 2,887, out of 19,517 in the entire town of Waterford.

Bates Woods is approximately 85 acres of historic woodland trails around wetlands and ancient rock ledges in northwest New London, Connecticut. Accounting for nearly half of the city's 221 acres of public open space, or about 6 percent of New London's total land area, the park is a haven for biodiversity and wildlife. A BioBlitz in 2003 identified 1,691 species in Bates Woods in less than 24 hours, including the goldcap moss-eater moth (Epimartyria auricrinella), which has been called a living fossil. Impressive stone walls and other park features date to the Works Progress Administration and earlier centuries, adding to Bates Woods' charm as "one of New London's finest resources." Connecticut State Archaeologist Nicholas F. Bellantoni said it's possible that evidence of American Indian life could be uncovered in Bates Woods, particularly where stone outcroppings would have provided shelter for migrating tribes.

The Cedar Grove Cemetery is a non-sectarian rural cemetery in New London, Connecticut. It was established in 1851 on 39 acres and designed by Dr. Horatio Stone. The cemetery is located at the intersection of Broad Street and Jefferson Avenue.

The United States Housing Corporation Historic District is a residential historic district located on the west side of New London, Connecticut. It contains a relatively uniform collection of Colonial Revival houses, most of them built in 1919 and 1920 by the United States Housing Corporation, a United States federal government agency founded to provide housing for workers in strategically significant war-related industries. The development of this district was overseen by the noted landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. The district is bounded on the west by Colman Avenue, the south by West Pleasant Street, the east by Jefferson Street, and on the north by Fuller Street. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 16, 1990.

The Civic Institutions Historic District in New London, Connecticut is a historic district that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. It includes six contributing buildings over a 7 acres (2.8 ha) area. The district includes properties that were historically developed between 1867 and 1917 to provide for the city's indigent population and to provide medical services to the community at large. Two of the buildings are almshouses, built in 1867 and 1917, and the others were historically associated with the delivery of medical services, and date to the turn of the 20th century. The district properties are 179 Colman Street, 32 Walden Avenue, and 156, 158, 171, and 173-5 Garfield Avenue.

The Hartford Colony is a historic district on the coast of Long Island Sound in Waterford, Connecticut, which was developed as a summer resort area for the wealthy and elite of Hartford. The district extends along Leonard Court, New Shore Road, and Shore Road, and includes properties directly abutting the Sound as well as those with views of it that are on higher ground. The area was developed beginning in 1891 by Henry Cooke White, whose summer estate is located on White Point. The area includes a number of large high-quality Shingle style residences, and includes the work of architects Wilson Eyre and Briton Martin. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

It is situated in a central retail area off the Hartford Turnpike (Route 85), across from a smaller, open-air shopping center, Waterford Commons. The mall covers a gross leaseable area of 782,786 sq ft (72,723 m2), making it Connecticut's ninth largest mall, boasting 110 shops. Its primary trade area includes a trade population of 296,161 people, mostly serving the nearby towns of Waterford, Stonington, Norwich, Groton and New London. The mall features JCPenney.

Mago Point () is a location in Waterford, Connecticut. It was originally owned by the building company Titus and Bishop, who planned to make it into many 25 x 100-foot lots. Before these owners acted on their plans, Earl and Doris Wadsworth bought them out. Now it is home to several marine businesses.
