Civic Institutions Historic District

The United States Housing Corporation Historic District is a residential historic district located on the west side of New London, Connecticut. It contains a relatively uniform collection of Colonial Revival houses, most of them built in 1919 and 1920 by the United States Housing Corporation, a United States federal government agency founded to provide housing for workers in strategically significant war-related industries. The development of this district was overseen by the noted landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. The district is bounded on the west by Colman Avenue, the south by West Pleasant Street, the east by Jefferson Street, and on the north by Fuller Street. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 16, 1990.

Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School is a multi-magnet middle school in New London, CT. Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School opened in 1994. In 2022-2023, Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School served 337 students in grades 6-8. Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School was named after a local educator.

The Jonathan Newton Harris House is at historic house at 130 Broad Street in New London, Connecticut. Completed in 1860 to a design by Leopold Eidlitz, it is a major local example of Italianate and Renaissance Revival architecture. It was built for Jonathan Newton Harris, a prominent local businessman who was mayor of New London at the time of its construction. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 27, 1982. It is now home to New London's United Methodist Church.

The Nathan A. Woodworth House is a historic house at 28 Channing Street in New London, Connecticut. Built in 1890, it is a high quality example of transitional Queen Anne and Shingle style architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 1, 1982, and is part of the Post Hill Historic District.

The Hempstead Historic District of New London, Connecticut encompasses a residential area north of the city's harbor and central business district, extending mainly along three roughly parallel streets: Franklin and Hempstead Streets, and Mountain Avenue. The area was settled in the 17th century, and has three centuries of architecture depicting an increasingly urban area. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 31, 1986.

The Post Hill Historic District encompasses the oldest settled area of New London, Connecticut.

The Nathaniel Hempstead House, also known as the Old Huguenot House, is a historic house museum on Hempstead Street in New London, Connecticut. Built about 1759, it is an architecturally unusual stone house with a gambrel roof, a style not otherwise seen in the city. Because of its unusual form, it was thought to have been built by French Huguenot immigrants at an earlier date. The house is owned by Connecticut Landmarks, along with the adjacent Joshua Hempsted House, operating the pair as the Hempstead Houses museum. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 2, 1970.

The Joshua Hempsted House is a historic house museum at 11 Hempstead Street in New London, Connecticut. Built about 1678 and altered several times during the 18th century, it is one of the state's oldest surviving buildings, and provides a virtual catalog of early construction methods due to its state of preservation. The house was acquired by Connecticut Landmarks in 1937, which operates it and the adjacent 1759 Nathaniel Hempstead House as a historic house museum complex known as the Hempsted Houses. The houses have been restored to reflect a late 17th to mid 18th-century appearance, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.

The Ohev Sholem Synagogue is a historic synagogue building at 109 Blinman Street in New London, Connecticut. Built in 1919, the building is good example of the Classical Revival and Colonial Revival style applied to synagogue architecture. The building served a religious function until 1974, when it was sold to a Latino community organization. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995 for its architectural significance.

The Williams Memorial Park Historic District is located in New London, Connecticut, roughly bounded by Hempstead, Broad, Mercer and Williams Streets, with houses on Broad Street south to Cottage Street included. Williams Memorial Park – which was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted – is also included, as is the Civil War monument located there; 16 houses are part of the district, while two buildings – a brick office building at 43 Broad Street and an apartment building at 127 Hempstead Street, are non-contributing properties. Four of the six outbuildings in the district are contributing. Nine different architectural styles are represented in the district. The area was developed through the efforts of members of the locally prominent Williams family, whose fortune was made in the whaling industry, and contains some of New London's finest late-19th century architecture. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 3, 1987.

The Shaw Mansion, also known as the Shaw-Perkins Mansion and as the Shaw Mansion Museum, is a historic mansion and house museum at 11 Blinman Street between Bank and Brewer Streets in New London, Connecticut. Built in 1756 for Nathaniel Shaw Sr., it is a well-preserved example of a wealthy merchant's house, made further notable as the location of the state's naval offices during the American Revolutionary War. The headquarters and museum of the New London County Historical Society have been located in the Shaw Mansion since 1907.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
