Lepton is a village and former civil parish near Huddersfield, now in the parish of Kirkburton, in the Kirklees district, in the county of West Yorkshire, England. It is 4.25 miles (7 km) to the east of, and 120 metres (390 ft) above, the town centre directly north of Lepton Great Wood. In 1931 the parish had a population of 3323.

It occupies much of the high ground that can be found at the top of the steep inclines of Far Dene and Slant Gate and is a mixture of densely congregated housing estates and open pastoral farmland. According to the 2001 census Highburton had a population of 3,288.

Kirkburton is a village, civil parish and ward in Kirklees in West Yorkshire, England. It is 5 miles (8 km) south-east of Huddersfield. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the township comprises the villages of Kirkburton and Highburton and several hamlets, including Thunder Bridge, Thorncliffe, Storthes Hall, Burton Royd, Riley, Dogley, Common Side, Causeway Foot, Lane Head and Linfit. According to the 2011 census the civil parish had a population of 26,439, while the village itself had a population of 4,299.

Gawthorpe, also known as Gawthorp, is a hamlet in the Kirklees district, in the English county of West Yorkshire, about 4 miles (6 km) east of Huddersfield. The nearest major road is the A642 which passes about 0.3 miles (0.5 km) south of the place. In the 19th century Gawthorpe was listed variously as a village or a hamlet in Lepton township, part of the parish of Kirkheaton in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Coal was mined at Gawthorpe around the middle of the 19th century.It was claimed that Chief Justice Gascoigne was born here, however, he was a native of the abandoned village of Gawthorp near Harewood House.

Kirkburton Hall, formerly known as Kirkburton Town Hall, and before that, as Springfield House, is a former municipal building in Penistone Road in Kirkburton, a town in West Yorkshire in England. The building, which was previously the offices and meeting place of the Kirkburton Urban District Council and is now a private residence, is a grade II listed building.

Shuttle Eye Colliery was a coal mine on the South Yorkshire Coalfield at Grange Moor between Wakefield and Huddersfield on the A642 road, in England.The colliery was started in 1862 by Lockwood and Elliott and had two shafts, the deepest 288 yards. It produced coal from the Beeston and Black Bed seams. Two drift mines at Gregory Spring in Hopton near Mirfield to the north were linked to Shuttle Eye in 1962. The colliery was nationalised in 1947. It closed in 1973.In 1896 the colliery had 86 underground workers and 13 on the surface. By 1923 the workforce numbered 179 and 175 ten years later. At nationalisation the colliery had 234 underground and 40 surface workers. The colliery employed 222 workers in the 1970s.

Fenay Bridge and Lepton railway station served the villages of Lepton and Fenay Bridge, West Riding of Yorkshire, England, from 1867 to 1965 on the Kirkburton Branch.

Myers Wood is a wooded area in the village of Kirkburton, West Yorkshire, England. It forms part of a heavily forested area to the west of the village, occupying the rise in the valley leading up to Storthes Hall and beyond. It is directly west of the main Penistone Road, opposite Riley. Saville Wood is directly south, close to Thunder Bridge. Local residents consider the wood to be of poor quality due to the absence of woodland management.The wood is significant for the discovery of an iron-working site dating from the Middle Ages. Archaeological excavations by a team from the University of Bradford uncovered the most complete site in the north of England. The Cistercian monastic iron-working site was in operation from the 12th century to the 14th century, using advanced techniques and water power for smelting and smithing iron. The site is not a tourist feature, there being no formal administration or oversight by a heritage body; however, it is possible to access the site via the footpath that runs through Saville Wood.

Grange Moor is a village in the Kirklees district of West Yorkshire, England. The village is situated between Huddersfield (6 miles (10 km) away) and Wakefield (9 miles (14 km) away). In 2019 it had an estimated population of 1101.The village is represented on Kirkburton parish council and is in the Kirkburton ward of Kirklees Council.Grange Moor is situated on moorland with the same name and is to the north of a road junction on the A642, A637 and B6118 roads (known as Grange Moor Crossroads). Shuttle Eye Colliery was situated near the crossroads, its site now occupied by warehousing. The church is dedicated to St Bartholomew. The village school, Grange Moor Primary School, has places for 120 children. The village is policed by the West Yorkshire Police.Grange Moor Brass Band was formed 1854, and has had a band room in the village since 1937.
