Hamm

The County of Mark (German: Grafschaft Mark, French: Comté de La Marck colloquially known as Die Mark) was a county and state of the Holy Roman Empire in the Lower Rhenish–Westphalian Circle. It lay on both sides of the Ruhr River along the Volme and Lenne rivers. The Counts of the Mark were among the most powerful and influential Westphalian lords in the Holy Roman Empire. The name Mark is recalled in the present-day Märkischer Kreis district in lands south of the Ruhr in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The northern portion (north of the Lippe river) is still called Hohe Mark ("Higher Mark"), while the former "Lower Mark" (between the Ruhr and Lippe Rivers) is—for the most part—merged in the present Ruhr area.

Hamm (Westf) Hauptbahnhof (often abbreviated Hamm (Westf) or simply Hamm (W)) is a railway station situated in the city of Hamm in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is notable for its station building inspired by art deco and Gründerzeit building styles. The station is one of the important InterCityExpress rail hubs in the eastern Ruhr area and is among the high-profile buildings of Hamm. Until the decline of rail freight after the Second World War, it featured one of Europe's largest marshalling yards.

Ahse is a river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It flows into the Lippe near Hamm.

The Alfred Fischer Hall (Alfred-Fischer-Halle) is a multi-purpose event venue in Hamm, Germany. It was built after design by Alfred Fischer as the machinery hall of a coal mine in 1912. After the mine was closed in 1976, the hall was transformed into a venue for conventions and concerts, among others. It has been a listed historic monument from 1989.

Hamm-Heessen station is a passenger station in Heessen, a suburb of the Westphalian city of Hamm in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It lies on the Hamm–Minden railway, one of the most heavily trafficked lines in Germany. It has an hourly Regional-Express service, the Rhein-Weser-Express (RE 6) on the Düsseldorf–Dortmund–Bielefeld–Minden route as well as an hourly Regionalbahn service, the Ems-Börde-Bahn (RB 69) on the Münster)–Hamm–Bielefeld route, so there is a service about every half an hour. Both lines were previously operated by DB Regio NRW. In December 2008, eurobahn, based in Hamm, took over the operation of RB 69. In 2009, about €600,000 were allocated for the rehabilitation of the station.

Geinegge is a river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It flows into the Lippe in Hamm.

Teufelsbach, also called Ostfeldgraben and Freisker Bach, is a river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is a tributary of the Rhynerscher Bach. Its largest fraction is part of the city of Hamm.

The Glass Elephant (German: Glaselefant) is a landmark in Hamm, Germany. The former coal-washing building in the Maximilian colliery was reconstructed as a walk-in sculpture by the artist and architect Horst Rellecke for Hamm's horticultural show in 1984.The "head" of the Elephant houses a palm garden as well as Rellecke's kinetic art pieces. The lift to the palm garten can be found in the Elephant's glass trunk, while a staircase is located at its "rear". At a height of 29 m, the Elephant opens up to a panorama of the Maximilian park, the city of Hamm, and its surroundings. In 2009, for North Rhine-Westphalia day, which was held in Hamm, the Glass Elephant was lavishly redecorated and equipped with a modern LED lights installation, which changes colours between white, blue, green, yellow, and red. Ever since then, the Glass Elephant changes its colour at regular intervals. During the autumn holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Glass Elephant is used for a light show for the "Herbstleuchten" (English: autumn radiance) festival. During this light show the LED lights installation changes colours and turns on and off to the rhythm of the music. Replicas and sculptures of the Glass Elephant can be found all over Hamm. A floral sculpture of the Elephant is located in the Kurpark Bad Hamm.

Rhynern, also Hamm-Rhynern, is the largest city district by area (59.22 km ²) of the city of Hamm, Westphalia, Germany. Until 1968 Rhynern was the administrative center of Amt Rhynern.

Bönen (German pronunciation: [ˈbøːnən]) is a municipality in the district of Unna, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated between Hamm in the north-east, Kamen in the west and Unna in the south. Bönen consists of the districts Altenbögge-Bönen, Bramey-Lenningsen, Flierich, Nordbögge, Osterbönen and Westerbönen.

The Ahlen water tower is an industrial monument and landmark in the Ahlen, Germany. The spherical water tank is 44 metres (144 ft) high and has a capacity of 1,000 cubic metres (35,000 cu ft). From 1915 to 1917, the water tower served as the sole water supply for the Westphalia mine and the miners colony built in 1892 by Gelsenwasser AG. Today the distinctive blue water tower is monument and is a historical example of the early development of riveting at the beginning of the 20th century.

Olfe is a small river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is a right tributary of the Werse in Ahlen.
