St Mary's School, Calne

Calne () is a town and civil parish in Wiltshire, southwestern England, at the northwestern extremity of the North Wessex Downs hill range, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Calne is on a small river, the Marden, that rises 2 miles (3 kilometres) away in the Wessex Downs, and is the only town on that river. It is on the A4 road national route 19 mi (31 km) east of Bath, 6 mi (10 km) east of Chippenham, 13 mi (21 km) west of Marlborough and 16 mi (26 km) southwest of Swindon. Wiltshire's county town of Trowbridge is 15 mi (24 km) to the southwest, with London 82 mi (132 km) due east as the crow flies. At the 2021 Census, Calne had 19,074 inhabitants.

Calne Town Hall is a municipal building in The Strand, Calne, Wiltshire, England. The town hall, which is the meeting place of Calne Town Council, is a grade II listed building.

Calne railway station was opened on 3 November 1863 by the Great Western Railway as a terminus for their 5 miles (8.0 km) Chippenham and Calne branch line from the Great Western Main Line at Chippenham, England. It was a short distance from Calne town centre and had one platform. The station, when first opened, had its own engine shed. In the early years, the seven sidings were usually full due to the amount of traffic arriving from the nearby Chippenham station. Following closure in 1965 as part of the nationwide Beeching Axe, the buildings were left to be vandalised but were eventually taken down. A few years later the Station Road Industrial Estate was built on the site, which in turn was replaced by a housing development in 2014.

Calne Town Football Club is a football club based in Calne, Wiltshire, England. They are currently members of the Hellenic League Division One and play at Bremhill View.

St Mary's Church is the main Anglican church in the town of Calne, Wiltshire, England. The church is large and cruciform, with a tall north tower; it stands in a triangular churchyard at the heart of the town. Begun in the 12th century, it is described by Pevsner as "the proud church of a prosperous clothiers' town". The church is a Grade I listed building.

Adam House is a Grade II* listed house at 13 The Green, Calne, Wiltshire, England. The house dates from the seventeenth century and was refronted around 1740. It also includes nineteenth and twentieth century interior and rear additions. It was said by Lord Shelbourne to be named after the architect Robert Adam, who lived there while working on Bowood House.

Kingsbury Green Academy is a mixed secondary school and sixth form in Calne, Wiltshire, England for pupils aged 11 to 18. The school's present site to the south of the town was the last home of the former Bentley Grammar School, from 1957 to 1974, and the present school was called The John Bentley School when it was created as a new comprehensive in 1974. The school's name was changed to Kingsbury Green Academy in 2019, after it joined the Royal Wootton Bassett Academy Trust.

Fisher's Brook is a hamlet in Calne Without parish, Wiltshire, England, with a population of approximately 25. It consists of a small number of houses just south of the bridge over Fisher's Brook on the minor road from Calne to Whitley and Bremhill.Fisher's Brook is signposted from the A3102 Calne bypass and lies some 1.2 miles (1.9 km) to the north-west of the centre of the town. The brook flows into the Cowage Brook (a tributary of the River Marden) further west at Ratford.

Ratford is a hamlet near Calne in the county of Wiltshire, England, with a population of approximately 50. It lies around 0.7 miles (1 km) north of the A4 national route, 1.25 miles (2 km) northwest of Calne on a minor road towards Bremhill, 0.6 miles (1 km) away. Other nearby settlements include the villages of Derry Hill and Studley. The hamlet surrounds a crossing of the Cowage Brook, a tributary of the River Marden; the Cowage Brook is joined here by Fisher's Brook. Land to the south of Cowage Brook is in the civil parish of Calne Without while land to the north is in Bremhill parish. The first houses were probably built here in the late 17th century or early 18th. The single-arch stone bridge over the brook is probably from the late 18th century. Some cottages were built in the 19th century by the Bowood estate.The name Rattle was used in the past, appearing on the 1925 Ordnance Survey map, but by 1938 the name Ratford was is use.The local pub is the Dumb Post Inn, on the north side of Ratford on the lane to Bremhill. Between 1900 and c. 1970 there was a Baptist mission room near the brook.

Stock is a small settlement and former ecclesiastical parish, now part of Calne Without civil parish, in the ceremonial county of Wiltshire, England. It lies about 1 mile (1.6 km) south of the town of Calne. Samuel Lewis said in A Topographical Dictionary of England (1848): STOCK, a tything, in the parish, union, and hundred of Calne, Chippenham and Calne, and N. divisions of Wilts; containing 328 inhabitants. It is situated on a tributary of the river Avon, and to the south of the road leading from Droitwich to Alcester. Stock was part of the Calne hundred, and its history is included in the parish history of Calne in the Wiltshire Victoria County History's Volume XVII (2002). Although Stock had open fields and common pastures, it did not have a nuclear settlement. Before the Norman Conquest of England and still in 1086 the land at Stock was almost certainly part of the royal estate of Calne. Land at Stockley lies to the south, and the boundary between Stock and Stockley is uncertain. Land at Stock had been granted away from Calne by 1144, although the area it then covered is unknown. Some of it was probably granted to Fulk de Cauntelo about 1199, and from 1763 on Stock was inherited with the manors of Calne and Calstone as part of the Bowood House estate. In 1728 Stock was divided between Hollow Ditch farm (now called Holly Ditch) and a farm now gone, with buildings near Quobbs Farm, on the west side of the road from Devizes to Calne (now the A3102). As part of the Bowood estate, the land of those two farms, and other land at Stock, totalling about 350 acres, was inherited by Charles Petty-Fitzmaurice, 9th Marquess of Lansdowne, in 1999.The Ordnance Survey map surveyed in 1884 shows a roadside hamlet named Stock Street near Stock Street Farm, and another named Mile Elm, further south along the road and near a farm of the same name which lies between Quobbs and Holly Ditch. Modern maps show only Mile Elm.

Mile Elm is a hamlet in central Wiltshire, England, with a population of around 40 residents. It lies on the A3102 road, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south-west of the town of Calne. There was a farm at Mile End in 1728; the area to the east of the road was the tithing of Stock. The hamlet is within the civil parish of Calne Without. Wiltshire Council is the unitary authority which is responsible for all significant local government functions. Mile Elm backs onto part of the Marquess of Lansdowne's Bowood Estate. Larger nearby villages include Heddington, Bromham and Sandy Lane.
