Ruddington

Rushcliffe Country Park (Grid Reference SK577320) is an open park space covering approximately 210 acres (0.85 km2), located on Mere Way just south of Ruddington on the A60 in the borough of Rushcliffe, Nottinghamshire, England. The park has maintained the Green Flag award for twelve years; the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales.

Basford was a rural district close to Nottingham, England, from 1894 to 1974. The district consisted of two detached parts, to the north and south of Nottingham. It was created under the Local Government Act 1894 based on the existing Basford rural sanitary district.The Nottingham suburb of Basford was not part of the rural district, having been added to Nottingham in 1877. Bilborough, Wollaton and parts of both Bestwood Park and Colwick were transferred to the City of Nottingham in 1933. The area of Leake Rural District was added to Basford Rural District in 1935. In 1952 parts of the Clifton with Glapton and Ruddington parishes were also transferred to the City of Nottingham. In 1974 the district was split between the new non-metropolitan districts of Ashfield, Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe. The parishes of Annesley, Felley and Selston went to Ashfield; the parishes of Awsworth, Brinsley, Cossall, Greasley, Kimberley, Nuthall, Strelley and Trowell went to Broxtowe; the parishes of Bestwood Park, Burton Joyce, Calverton, Lambley, Linby, Newstead, Papplewick, Stoke Bardolph and Woodborough went to Gedling, and the rest to Rushcliffe including the small towns of Ruddington and Radcliffe on Trent.

Ruddington is a disused railway station on the Great Central Main Line south of Nottingham. The line had branches that ran to the now decommissioned Ruddington Depot. It was originally a standard GCR country island type station, like those surviving at Quorn and Woodhouse and Rothley, accessed from a road overbridge. The station buildings have been demolished though the island platform still survives. Just south of the station is where the northern end of the northern preserved section of the GCRH starts. The station opened 15 March 1899 and closed to passengers on 4 March 1963, though passenger trains continued to pass through until closure of the line on 3 May 1969. Goods trains continued until the 1980s. During WW2 a new railway station, Ruddington Factory Halt railway station, was constructed at Ruddington Depot The Great Central Railway (Nottingham) have opened a station at Ruddington Fields on the site of the Ministry of Defence Depot and plan to purchase the station, restore it and extend the current preserved Great Central.In March 2021, a bid was submitted to restore the Great Central Railway from Leicester to Ruddington as part of the third round of the Department for Transport Restoring Your Railway fund.

The Great Central Railway (Nottingham) (formerly known as the Nottingham Heritage Railway) is a heritage railway located at the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre (NTHC), on the south side of the village of Ruddington, in Nottinghamshire. The route consists of almost 10 miles (16 km) of the former Great Central Main Line from Loughborough South Junction (with the Midland Main Line) to Fifty Steps Bridge and the site of Ruddington's former GCR station, plus a branch line from Fifty Steps Bridge to Ruddington Fields station which is located on a former Ministry of Defence site next to Rushcliffe Country Park. There are stations open to the public at Ruddington Fields (within the main centre site) and at Rushcliffe Halt. The GCR(N) aim to re-open the former station at East Leake in the longer term.The railway is currently not connected to Great Central Railway (at Loughborough Central in Leicestershire), although there are plans well underway and work has started to reunite the two preserved lines by bridging the Loughborough Gap. This is a major engineering project that is expected to be completed between 2024 and 2028. Some 5.5 miles (8.9 km) of the line was used by gypsum trains serving the British Gypsum works at East Leake until early 2020.

Ruddington Hall is a country house standing in the grounds of a garden in Ruddington, Nottinghamshire, England. Ruddington Hall has been included in the art work of Nikolaus Pevsner alongside the Elizabethan Wollaton Hall and Newstead Abbey, ancestral home of Lord Byron. Pevsner described it as having a classical ethic of "calm grandeur, and monumental simplicity".

Wilwell Farm Nature Reserve or Wilwell Cutting is a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest and Local Nature Reserve in Nottinghamshire. The site was originally standard farmland, but in the 1890s a cutting was constructed to take the Great Central Railway's London Extension. The site was located between Ruddington railway station (to the south) and Arkwright Street railway station (to the north). The Great Central Main Line was closed in 1969, and in 1976 it was proposed that the cutting should be used for landfill. However local opposition saw it converted into a Nature Reserve.

Clifton All Whites Football Club is a football club based in Clifton, Nottingham. Formed in 1963 as a youth team, the club expanded to include a senior team in the 1970s. The first team are currently members of the United Counties League Division One.

Wilford Hill is the highest point in Nottinghamshire on the Trent's south bank, giving views of the Trent Valley as far as Newark-on-Trent. It is listed as having an elevation of 87m and a prominence of 49m.The area has historic significance due to its prominence and the presence of the Kings Road or old great road running cross its top, which was the main route from London and Leicester to the north of the country. By 1914 it was already thought to have been neglected for 150 years, so that "no cart could possibly cross it". The old road is known locally as "The Spinney". Wilford Hill and Sharphill Wood were listed in 1066 as having belonged to Gytha, wife of Earl Ralph (Ralph the Timid), later transferred to the ownership of William Peverel a favourite knight of William the Conqueror, first Sheriff of Nottingham, and lord of Nottingham Castle.A community of mainly detached three and four-bedroom homes in West Bridgford. Constructed on "closes of land lying and being on the North West side of Loughborough Road in the Parish of Wilford in the County of Nottingham". It was mainly farmland until the early 1950s when local builders Frank Goulding Limited started building on the land. The first houses follow a similar pattern to those on Repton and Harrow Roads (if on a smaller scale), with 1930s styling and pyramidal roofs, later bungalows and houses with gable roofs followed. Voids were left during building that were later filled, resulting in a mixed style of properties and roof types. Heymann Primary School was completed on Wilford Hill and opened in 1959. This now acts as a feeder school for West Bridgford School which lays just to the North of the housing on Wilford Hill. Wilford Hill borders the Compton Acres development as well as the older areas of West Bridgford. It is in the Lutterell Ward of Rushcliffe Borough Council. As well as being a residential location, the Southern Cemetery and the crematorium for Nottingham is located on 'Wilford Hill' itself.

Ruddington Lane is a tram stop on the Nottingham Express Transit (NET) network. The stop takes its name from Ruddington Lane, which is crossed on the level just south of the stop, and lies on the boundary between the city of Nottingham and the district of Rushcliffe. The stop is on line 2 of the NET, from Phoenix Park via the city centre to Clifton, and trams run at frequencies that vary between 4 and 8 trams per hour, depending on the day and time of day.The tram line and stop is located on the course of the former Great Central main line, which once linked London with Nottingham and Sheffield, but which closed in 1969. The railway line here ran in a cutting and crossed under Ruddington Lane. As part of the development of the tramway, the tram track was raised and Ruddington Lane lowered, so as to allow a traffic light controlled level crossing. To the south of this crossing, the tram line passes under Clifton Boulevard (A52) using a pre-existing bridge, before leaving the former railway right of way and running on a new alignment across country towards the Clifton Estate. The stop is on reserved track and comprises a pair of side platforms flanking the tracks.Ruddington Lane opened on 25 August 2015, along with the rest of NET's phase two.

Farnborough Spencer Academy is a coeducational secondary school located in the Clifton area of Nottingham in the English county of Nottinghamshire.The school offers GCSEs as programmes of study for pupils, with a small number of pupils attending Central College Nottingham for vocational courses. It previously held Technology College status as part of the (now defunct) Specialist Schools Programme and also previously had the motto 'Tenez Le Droit. ' Previously a community school administered by Nottingham City Council, in December 2013 an Ofsted inspection judged Farnborough School Technology College to be 'Inadequate'. The rating meant the school was placed in special measures. The school was opened in September 2014 by paralympian Richard Whitehead and was renamed The Farnborough Academy. The 1950s school buildings were demolished and also replaced with a new building designed by Franklin Ellis Architects, one of the last projects built under the Building Schools for the Future programme. It was then operated as part of the Trent Academies Group, however, in September 2018 Trent Academies Group merged with the Spencer Academies Trust. The school then changed its name to Farnborough Spencer Academy in September 2021.
