Iliff station is a Regional Transportation District (RTD) light rail station in Aurora, Colorado. The station is located alongside Interstate 225 at Iliff Avenue, a little more than one block west of South Blackhawk Street. The station opened on February 24, 2017, and is served by the H and R lines. Iliff station has a 600 space parking structure owned and operated by the City of Aurora. A transit-oriented development project including 424 residences is under construction southeast of the station.

Florida station is an RTD light rail station in Aurora, Colorado, United States. The station, located at the intersection of East Florida Avenue and South Abilene Street, is served by the H Line and R Line. A pedestrian bridge connects the station platform on the east side of I-225 with The Medical Center of Aurora and related medical offices as well as the residential neighborhood on the west side of I-225. During planning and construction, RTD designated the station "Medical Center of Aurora – Florida"; the reference to the hospital was dropped prior to the station's opening on February 24, 2017. This is the southern terminus of the H line, trains use a pocket track just north of the station to reverse directions.

The Medical Center of Aurora ("TMCA") serves Aurora, Colorado and the eastern Denver-Aurora Metropolitan Area (metro area) with four separate campuses providing a wide range of health care services. It was founded in 1974; it now employs more than 1,200 people and is part of HealthONE, the largest health care system in the metro area. Currently, there are more than 450 doctors on staff and 346 beds.

Ecotech Institute was a private for-profit college in Aurora, Colorado. It offered classes and certificates focused on renewable energy and energy efficiency. The first class graduated in June 2012 with 42 students with subsequent classes growing larger. The school closed in December 2018.

Gateway High School is a public high school in Aurora, Colorado, United States. It is one of five high schools in Aurora Public Schools, and the school offers a variety of Advanced Placement courses. Gateway's student newspaper is The Gateway Medallion and the yearbook is The Olympiad.

Overland High School is located in Aurora, Colorado, United States, and is part of the Cherry Creek School District. Overland High School is a comprehensive public, suburban, college-oriented institution. It is accredited by the North Central Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges and by the Colorado State Department of Education. Overland High School was selected to be on Newsweek's America's Top High Schools 2010 list. Construction has been completed on a state-of-the-art Science, Technology, Engineering and Math or IST Center, built on the esplanade between Prairie Middle School and Overland High School. The 58,000-square-foot (5,400 m2) center opened in August 2011. It serves 6th through 12th graders. Programming includes areas of concentration in bio-science, computer science, medicine and information technology.

On December 14, 1993, four employees were shot and killed and a fifth employee was seriously injured at a Chuck E. Cheese's restaurant in Aurora, Colorado, United States. The perpetrator, 19-year-old Nathan Dunlap, a former employee of the restaurant, was frustrated about being fired five months prior to the shooting and sought revenge by committing the attack. He fled the scene of the shooting with stolen money and restaurant items. Dunlap was found guilty of four counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and other charges, and was sentenced to death by lethal injection on May 17, 1996. A judge initially set an execution date for him in August 2013, but Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper signed a temporary reprieve that postponed Dunlap's execution date. Dunlap's death sentence was commuted to life in prison without parole in 2020 after Colorado abolished the death penalty.

On July 20, 2012, a mass shooting occurred inside a Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, United States, during a midnight screening of the film The Dark Knight Rises. Dressed in tactical clothing, 24-year-old James Eagan Holmes set off tear gas grenades and shot into the audience with multiple firearms. Twelve people were killed, and 70 others were injured, 58 of them from gunfire. It is the deadliest shooting by a lone perpetrator in the history of Colorado and the state's second-deadliest mass shooting, just after the 1999 Columbine High School massacre. At the time, the event had the largest number of victims (82) in one shooting in modern U.S. history. This number was later surpassed by the 107 victims of the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting and eventually the 927 victims of the 2017 Las Vegas shooting. Holmes was arrested minutes later in his car outside the cinema. Earlier, he had rigged his apartment with homemade explosives and incendiary devices. These were defused by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad a day after the shooting. Fearing copycat crimes, movie theaters showing the same film across the United States increased their security. Gun sales increased in Colorado, and political debates were generated about gun control in the United States. Holmes confessed to the shooting but pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Arapahoe County prosecutors sought the death penalty. The trial began on April 27, 2015. On July 16 of that year, Holmes was convicted of 24 counts of first-degree murder, 140 counts of attempted first-degree murder, and one count of possessing explosives. On August 7, the jury deadlocked on whether to impose the death penalty. On August 26, Holmes was given 12 life sentences, one for every person he killed; he also received 3,318 years for the attempted murders of those he wounded and for rigging his apartment with explosives.

The Town Center at Aurora (formerly known as Aurora Mall) is an enclosed, two-level regional shopping center located in Aurora, Colorado, and covers a leasable area over 1 million square feet. It lies at the center of the commercial and retail district in the area, adjacent to Aurora City Square, Aurora City Place, and Aurora Park Shopping Center, a strip mall. The commercial district itself is located in central Aurora, and the mall's primary trade area includes a mostly suburban, middle-income demographic. Anchor stores and major tenants at the mall are Dillard's (originally The Denver, became May-D&F in 1987, then Foley's in 1993), Macy's (originally May-D&F, became May-D&F Men's in 1987, then Foley's Men's in 1993, then a full-line Foley's in 2005), JCPenney, and Century Theatres with one vacant anchor last occupied by Sears.

Aurora Metro Center station is a Regional Transportation District (RTD) light rail station on the R Line in Aurora, Colorado. The station is located at Centrepoint Drive and Sable Boulevard and has a 145-stall park-and-ride lot. The station is between the Town Center at Aurora shopping center and the Aurora Municipal Center (city hall, police headquarters, central library, and history museum). The station opened on February 24, 2017, along with the rest of the R Line. The former Centrepoint and Sable bus transfer center was renamed to Aurora Metro Center station when the light rail opened.

Nine Mile station is an island platformed RTD light rail station in Aurora, Colorado, United States. The station was opened on November 17, 2006, and is operated by the Regional Transportation District as part of the H and R lines. When it opened in 2006, it was the terminus of the H Line Southeast Corridor trains traveling along Interstate 225. After the opening of the R Line in 2017, trains on the H Line were extended northeast to Florida station. Nine Mile station is named after, and built at the approximate location of, the historic Nine Mile House, one of several stage stops along the Smoky Hill Trail. This stop was nine miles from Denver.

The Aurora Public Library in Aurora, Colorado is a multi-branch library district serving the Aurora suburb of Denver, Colorado. It complements Denver Public Library, which serves the Denver city and county, as well as the Arapahoe Library District, which serves Arapahoe County. The Aurora Public Library predates its county library district, Arapahoe, by more than thirty years, while serving the more niche population of Aurora.
