Eliad, Golan Heights

Al-'Al (Arabic: الْعَال, romanized: al-ʿĀl, trans. "the high place"), is a former Syrian village in the southern Golan Heights, on the southern tributary of Wadi es-Samekh. Israel occupied the area during the Six-Day War. The village was abandoned and dismantled.During the French Mandate for Syria and Lebanon, the name was spelt "El Al" on French maps.

Geshur (Hebrew: גְּשׁוּר, lit. Bridging) is an Israeli settlement organized as a kibbutz on the ridge of the southern Golan Heights. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the Golan Heights illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this. In 2021 it had a population of 310.

Fik Airfield (also known as Pik) (ICAO: LLFK) is an airfield in the Golan Heights, occupied by Israel, near the Israeli settlement and kibbutz Afik. The airfield is used for private aviation activity and operated by the Golan Regional Council. Fik has seen traffic drop in recent years, but is used by Elbit Systems to test their Unmanned aerial vehicles. The airfield was the site of Israel's 2001 Kart racing championship, and there is talk of converting it into a race track.

Gergesa, also Gergasa (Γέργεσα in Byzantine greek) or the Country of the Gergesenes, is a place on the eastern (Golan Heights) side of the Sea of Galilee located at some distance to the ancient Decapolis cities of Gadara and Gerasa. Today, it is identified with El-Koursi or Kursi. It is mentioned in some ancient manuscripts of the Gospel of Matthew as the place where the Miracle of the Swine took place, a miracle performed by Jesus who drove demons out of a[matthew 8:28 says 2 men (not one), messianic translation,Jewish bible;kda] possessed man and into a herd of pigs. All three Synoptic Gospels mention this miracle, Matthew writes about two possessed men instead of just one, and only some manuscripts of his Gospel name the location as Gergesa, while the other copies, as well as all versions of Luke and Mark, mention either Gadara or Gerasa (see Mark 5:1-20, Luke 8:26-39, Matthew 8:28-34). The "Gerasa" reading is problematic, because Gerasa is neither near a sea nor does it border Galilee.Some are of the opinion that Gergesa was the country of the ancient Girgashites; but it is more probable that 'Gergesenes' was introduced by Origen upon mere conjecture; as before him most copies seem to have read 'Gadarenes', agreeable to the parallel passages and the ancient Syriac version. In any event, the "country of the Gergesenes/Gadarenes/Gerasenes" in the New Testament Gospels refers to some location on the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee. The name is derived from either a lakeside village, Gergesa, the next larger city, Gadara, or the best-known city in the region, Gerasa. It is likely that the "Gerasa" reading is erroneous and a copyist error for "Gergesa," since only the latter place is bordering a lake while Gerasa is very far away from a lake.

Mechinat Avnei Eitan (Hebrew: מכינת אבנ"י אית"ן), also referred to as Leadership Yeshiva Academy in English, is a pre-military mechina which combines classical Yeshiva learning with the preparation for the service in the Israeli Defence Forces and leadership functions in Jewish communities. The mechina, the first of its kind for English speakers, was founded in 2004, on Moshav Avnei Eitan in the Golan Heights annexed by Israel in 1981.

Avnei Eitan (Hebrew: אַבְנֵי אֵיתָן) is an Israeli settlement organized as a moshav in the southern Golan Heights, located at an elevation of 385 meters (1,263 ft) above sea level. Located to the east of the Sea of Galilee, it falls under the municipal jurisdiction of Golan Regional Council. In 2021 it had a population of 811. It is part of the Hapoel HaMizrachi movement. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the Golan Heights illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.

Mujahia or Nab‘a el-Mjảḥiyye is an archaeological site in the southern Golan Heights, north of Bnei Yehuda. It was first excavated by Avi Gopher in 1985 who examined stratigraphy made up of limestone and basalt. Upon further excavation, three levels of circular walled dwellings were found using stone basalt construction. Archaeological materials recovered included arrowheads, chisels, knives and scrapers along with use of obsidian, bones an shellfish. Relatively few arrowheads were found, mostly consisting of Helwan points. Local fauna included goat and gazelle. No radiometric dating was available, but it has been suggested to date to the Pre-Pottery Neolithic B (PPNB) around the middle of the 8th millennium BC.

Afik (Hebrew: אֲפִיק) is an Israeli settlement organized as a kibbutz in the Golan Heights. It was established in 1972 close to the abandoned Syrian village of Fiq following Israel's capture and occupation of the Golan Heights in the 1973 Yom Kippur War. In 2021, it had a population of 357.. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the Golan Heights illegal under international law, while the Israeli government disputes this.

Neot Golan (Hebrew: נְאוֹת גּוֹלָן) is an Israeli settlement and moshav, in the southern Golan Heights, under the administration of Israel. It falls under the jurisdiction of Golan Regional Council, and had a population of 670 in 2021.The international community considers Israeli settlements in the Golan Heights illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.

Umm el-Qanatir, also spelled Umm el-Kanatir (Arabic: ام القناطر, romanized: Umm al-Qanāṭir, lit. 'mother of the arches'), also known as Ein Keshatot (Hebrew: עין קשתות, lit. 'spring of the arches'), is an archaeological site on the Golan Heights, whose main phase is dated to the mid-5th–8th centuries. Excavations have revealed a Roman-period settlement, first inhabited by pagans and later by Jews, who left behind the ruins of an exquisite synagogue when they abandoned the town after it being destroyed by the catastrophic 749 earthquake. The site is located 10 kilometres east of the Dead Sea Transform, one kilometre southwest of Natur.Identification attempts based on Jewish sources have led to two possible ancient names: Kantur, mentioned by Rabbi Menachem di Luzano in his book Ma'arikh (16th/early 17th century); and Qamtra, the name of a place mentioned in the Talmud and with a Jewish past dating back to the Byzantine period.

Bnei Yehuda (Hebrew: בְּנֵי יְהוּדָה) is an Israeli settlement organized as a moshav located in the southern Golan Heights, under the administration of Israel. The moshav was built in 1972 and falls under the municipal jurisdiction of the Golan Regional Council. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the Golan Heights illegal under international law, but the Israeli and the U.S government disputes this. In 2021 its population was 1,129.

Natur (Hebrew: נָטוּר) is an Israeli settlement in the southern Golan Heights. The settlement was established as a kibbutz in 1980, after Israel occupied the area in the 1967 Six Day War. In 2021, it had a population of 910 settlers. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the Golan Heights illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.
