Mountain Ash Comprehensive School (Welsh: Ysgol Gyfun Aberpennar), known as MACS, is a comprehensive school near the town of Mountain Ash, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. It is a mixed-sex school with approximately 950 pupils, including about 90 in the sixth form. The school was formerly known as Mountain Ash Grammar School (Welsh: Ysgol Ramadeg Aberpennar) and is located near the former Dyffryn Colliery.

Cefnpennar also known as Cefn Pennar is a small rural hamlet north of the coal mining town of Mountain Ash, Rhondda Cynon Taff, in Wales. The village that has been in existence since at least 1870 is still part of the Aberdare, Rhondda Cynon Taff Parish. It is approximately 1 mile from Mountain Ash town centre and buses run daily (every 30 minutes according to DirectTransport.co.uk 2013). It has a number of streets including: Blackberry Place, Cefnpennar Road, Greenfield Terrace, Llwynbedw, The Avenue & Toncoch Terrace .

Glenboi is a village located one mile north of the town of Mountain Ash in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. It is linked to Mountain Ash via the B4275. The English translation of Glenboi is Wood Valley, "Glen" meaning a "small valley" and "boi" meaning "wood". Glenboi Primary School was one of thirteen schools in Wales that began experimenting with a longer school day in February 2022 in order to compensate for learning deficits caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is always capitalised on motorway signs.

Abercwmboi Halt railway station served the village of Abercwmboi in historic Glamorganshire, Wales. Opened as Duffryn Crossing Platform by the Taff Vale Railway, it became part of the Great Western Railway during the Grouping of 1923. Passing to the Western Region of British Railways on nationalisation in 1948, it was then closed by the British Transport Commission.

Mountain Ash Urban District was a local authority in Mountain Ash, in the Cynon Valley, Glamorgan, Wales. It was created in 1894 as a result of the 1894 Local Government of England and Wales Act.The Council existed until 1973 and replaced the Mountain Ash Local Board of Health which had functioned since the 1870s. Initially, the Council had fifteen members, but this was increased to eighteen in 1898. The council was based at Mountain Ash Town Hall.

Mountain Ash Town Hall (Welsh: Neuadd y Dref Aberpennar) is a municipal structure in Ffrwd Crescent, Mountain Ash, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. The town hall, which was the headquarters of Mountain Ash Urban District Council, is a Grade II listed building.

Mountain Ash (Welsh: Aberpennar) is a town and former community in the Cynon Valley, within the County Borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, with a population of 11,230 at the 2011 Census, estimated in 2019 at 11,339. It includes the districts and villages of Cefnpennar, Cwmpennar, Caegarw, Darranlas, Fernhill, Glenboi and Newtown, all within the historic county boundaries of Glamorgan. Aberdare lies about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) north-west, Cardiff 19 miles (31 km) south-east, and Penrhiwceiber a mile to the south-east. It divides into two communities (civil parishes): West covers the town centre and the districts of Miskin, Darranlas, Fernhill and Glenboi, and East the districts of Cefnpennar, Cwmpennar, Caegarw and Newtown.
