Faymonville (Walloon: Faimonveye, German: Außenborn) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Waimes, located in the province of Liège, Belgium.

Waimes (French pronunciation: [wɛm]; German: Weismes, German pronunciation: [ˈvaɪ̯sməs]; Walloon: Waime) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Liège, Belgium. On January 1, 2006, Waimes had a total population of 6,728. The total area is 96.93 km2 which gives a population density of 69 inhabitants per km2. Waimes is one of two mostly French-speaking municipalities in the East Cantons, the other being Malmedy. German as a minority language is also still widely spoken in Waimes to this day. The other surrounding municipalities in the area are part of the main German-speaking Community of Belgium. The municipality consists of the following districts: Faymonville, Robertville (including the village of Ovifat), and Waimes.

Bütgenbach (German pronunciation: [ˈbʏtçənˌbax]; French: Butgenbach, pronounced [bytʃənbak]) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Liège. On January 1, 2006, Bütgenbach had a total population of 5,574. The total area is 97.31 km2 which gives a population density of 57 inhabitants per km2. As part of the German-speaking Community of Belgium, the official language in this municipality is German. The municipality consists of the following sub-municipalities: Bütgenbach proper and Elsenborn. It lends its name to a nearby artificial lake.

Herresbach is a village in the German-speaking community of Amel within the administrative St. Vith canton in the province of Liège, Belgium and is part of the German-speaking Community of Belgium (German: Deutschsprachige Gemeinschaft Belgiens). With a population of 223 (January, 2013) Herresbach is one of the smaller villages of the Amel community, lies about 5 miles (7 km.) southeast of Amel village and is separated from the adjacent villages in the Amel community by extensive woodlands. In 1977 Herresbach was part of the Meyerode community that was combined with Amel.

Nidrum is a village in the municipality of Bütgenbach in East Belgium. Nidrum is located about 2 kilometers north of Bütgenbach and has a population 854 inhabitants.

Robertville (Walloon: Li Rbiveye (locally as Rebîveye or Rubîveye)) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Waimes, located in the province of Liège, Belgium. On 1 January 2005 it had 2402 inhabitants. It was a separate municipality (formed in 1922 by the fusion of the villages of Robertville, Ovifat, Sourbrodt and Outrewarche) before the 1977 merger of the municipalities. Prior to that date it was also the highest municipality in Belgium, marked by the Signal de Botrange, at 694 metres (2,277 feet). It is the site of Reinhardstein Castle. It is also known for its dam across the Warche, built in 1928, which created the 62-hectare (150-acre) Lake Robertville to provide the Malmedy region with drinking water and to supplement the supply of electricity to Malmedy's now district of Bévercé.

Lake Robertville is an artificial lake located in Wallonia near the city of Malmedy in Belgium. The water volume is 8,000,000 m³ and the area is 0,62 km². The lake is located in the High Fens park. The dam on the river Warche was built in 1928. Lake Robertville is situated in the municipality of Waimes. It is named after the village of Robertville.

Baugnez is a hamlet of Wallonia in the municipality of Malmedy, district of Bévercé, located in the province of Liège, Belgium. It is notable as being the site of a notorious massacre during the Second World War. Baugnez is situated two miles southeast of the town of Malmedy, on route N62 (E421) between Malmedy and Ligneuville. It stands at the crossroads between N62 (Route de Waimes) and N632. After Baugnez the Route les Waimes follows N632 to Waimes and N62 becomes Route de Luxembourg. In December 1944 the crossroads at Baugnez was the site of the massacre of more than 70 American prisoners of war by Waffen SS troops under the command of Joachim Peiper. The site is marked by a memorial comprising a low stone wall bearing a plaque recounting the incident and 72 black stones inset into the wall, each one commemorating a man who died.

The Malmedy massacre was a German war crime committed by soldiers of the Waffen-SS on 17 December 1944 at the Baugnez crossroads near the city of Malmedy, Belgium, during the Battle of the Bulge (16 December 1944 – 25 January 1945). Soldiers of Kampfgruppe Peiper summarily killed eighty-four U.S. Army prisoners of war (POWs) who had surrendered after a brief battle. The Waffen-SS soldiers had grouped the U.S. POWs in a farmer's field, where they used machine guns to shoot and kill the grouped POWs; the prisoners of war who survived the gunfire of the massacre were killed with a coup de grâce gunshot to the head.Besides the summary execution of the eighty-four U.S. POWs at the farmer's field, the term "Malmedy massacre" also includes other Waffen-SS massacres of civilians and POWs in Belgian villages and towns in the time after their first massacre of U.S. POWs at Malmedy; these Waffen-SS war crimes were the subjects of the Malmedy massacre trial (May–July 1946), which was a part of the Dachau trials (1945–1947).

The Elsenborn Camp Railway was a 3.2 km (2.0 mi) long 600 mm (1 ft 11+5⁄8 in) gauge railway line which connected the Elsenborn Camp near Elsenborn with Sourbrodt railway station on the standard gauge Vennbahn in Belgium from 1901 to 1939.
