Medway Power Station

London Thamesport (formerly just "Thamesport") was a small container seaport on the River Medway, serving the North Sea. It is located on the Isle of Grain, in the Medway unitary authority district of the English county of Kent. The area was formerly called Port Victoria. Since early 2020, Thamesport has no longer operated as a container port, having been eclipsed by the new and much larger London Gateway container port on the Essex coast of the Thames Estuary.

Grain station (TQ 869 750 51°26′38″N 0°41′04″E) was a railway station in the Medway, England. It opened on 3 September 1951, replacing Grain Crossing Halt, and closed on 4 December 1961. It was located between Grain Crossing Halt and Port Victoria stations.

Grain Crossing Halt (TQ 863 753 51°26′45″N 0°40′55″E) was a halt on the Hundred of Hoo Railway between Stoke Junction Halt and Port Victoria station in the UK. It was opened on 1 July 1906 and closed to passengers on 11 June 1951. A bus service operated until 3 September 1951, when it was replaced by Grain station. Although officially named Grain Crossing Halt the station nameboard read Grain Halt

The BP Refinery (Kent) was an oil refinery on the Isle of Grain in Kent. It was commissioned in 1953 and had a maximum processing capacity of 11 million tonnes of crude oil per year. It was decommissioned in August 1982.

HMS Princess Irene was a 5,394 GRT ocean liner which was built in 1914 by William Denny and Brothers Ltd, Dumbarton, Scotland for the Canadian Pacific Railway. She was requisitioned by the Royal Navy on completion and converted to an auxiliary minelayer. On 27 May 1915, she exploded and sank off Sheerness, Kent, while being loaded with mines prior to a deployment mission, with the loss of 352 lives.

Grain LNG Terminal is a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal on the Isle of Grain, 37 miles (60 km) east of London. It has facilities for the offloading and reloading of LNG from ships at two jetties on the River Medway; for storing and blending LNG; for truck loading; and regasifying and blending natural gas to meet UK specifications. The terminal can handle up to 15 million tonnes per annum of LNG, has storage capacity for one million cubic metres of LNG, and is able to regasify up to 645 GWh per day (58 million cubic metres per day) for delivery into the high pressure gas National Transmission System (NTS). The facility is owned and operated by National Grid Grain LNG Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of National Grid.

Port Victoria railway station is a disused station in Kent, United Kingdom, which opened on 11 September 1882 and closed in 1951. It was located at the head of a 400-foot (120 m) long timber pier reaching in the River Medway estuary. The pier was discovered to be in need of repairs in 1896, and had also been damaged by a storm in November of that year. Between 1900 and 1903, the station was heavily used, as owing to a fire Queenborough pier was unavailable for use. During World War I the Admiralty took over Port Victoria. In 1916, the railway along the pier was shortened to 93 feet (28 m) and a new station building provided, the old one being demolished. By 1931 further deterioration of the pier made it unsafe and a new station was built on the landward side. The train service by this time being just two passenger services per day. In 1941 the pier was demolished and the station closed on 11 June 1951. The station featured in two Pathé News films recorded in 1939 and 1947, both featuring Station Master Stephen Mills.

Grain Power Station is a 1,275 megawatts (1,710,000 hp) operational CCGT power station in Kent, England, owned by Uniper (formerly E.ON UK). It was also the name of an oil-fired, now demolished, 1,320MW power station in operation from 1979 to 2012.

Burntwick Island is an island in the estuary of the River Medway in Kent, United Kingdom. It is a flat, raised area of marshland around 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) long and 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) wide among the tidal sand banks on the southern side of the estuary and separated from the British mainland of Chetney Marshes by a narrow channel known as Stangate Creek. The island is crossed by several narrow tidal channels that mean that at high tide the island is separated into several smaller islands.

Isle of Grain (Old English Greon, meaning gravel) is a village and the easternmost point of the Hoo Peninsula within the district of Medway in Kent, south-east England. No longer an island and now forming part of the peninsula, the area is almost all marshland and is a major habitat for diverse wetland birds. The village constitutes a civil parish, which at the 2011 census had a population of 1,648, a net decrease of 83 people in 10 years.

Thames Hub Airport was a proposed platform-based hub airport located on the Isle of Grain in the Thames Estuary in Kent, whose development has been led by the architect Lord Foster. The idea for the airport was originally included within the Thames Hub integrated infrastructure vision, and the idea of some kind of airport in the Thames Estuary has been discussed since the 1970s. The case for developing the airport as a solution to the question of how the United Kingdom can maintain its global hub aviation status was submitted, alongside many other solutions, to the UK’s Airports Commission in July 2013 by Foster+Partners. In December 2013, the Commission announced its shortlist of proposals for expanding Britain's airports. The Thames Estuary concept was not included on the initial shortlist.In September 2014, the Committee concluded that the Thames Hub proposal had "substantial disadvantages that collectively outweighed its potential benefits and that it therefore did not represent a credible option for shortlisting". They described it as "unfeasibly expensive, highly problematic in environmental terms and would be hugely disruptive for many businesses and communities". It remained off the shortlist.

Yantlet Creek is the creek draining into the River Thames that separated the Isle of Grain from the Hoo peninsula. It once connected the River Medway with the River Thames and made the Isle of Grain a true island. The creek silted up and now drains the area of The Isle of Grain and Allhallows Marshes. A monument known as the London Stone is located at its mouth and marks the limit of the City of London's ownership of the Thames.Yantlet gives its name to the Yantlet Reach on the Thames, and in its time has been used as point where the river became the estuary. The Yantlet Creek area is designated a special landscape area in the Medway Local Plan. It is also part of the South Thames Estuary and Marshes special protection area (SPA), and within the Natural Area of the Greater Thames Estuary and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
