Elmwood Historic District

Elmwood is a neighborhood in the South Side of Providence, Rhode Island. The triangular region is demarcated by Broad Street, Elmwood Avenue, and Interstate 95.

The Ontario Apartments are an historic apartment complex located at 25-31 and 37-41 Ontario Street in Providence, Rhode Island. The apartments were designed by Page & Page, and built in 1925 and 1927 by Harry Soren in a Mission/Spanish Revival style. The apartments consist of two three-story, flat-roofed, wood-framed buildings. The building at 25-31 Ontario Street was built in 1925, and forms a U-shape. 37-41 Ontario Street is to the west, is identical in detail but configured differently.These buildings are "well-preserved examples of early twentieth-century apartment buildings and are typical of ... apartment buildings in middle-class neighborhoods during the 1910s and 1920s." They were designed to appeal to wealthier tenants who did not want to care for single-family dwellings. They were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

The William J. Braitsch and Company Plant is a historic industrial building at 472 Potters Avenue in Providence, Rhode Island. Built in 1892, it played a key role in the development of the silversmithing industry in the city. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

Columbus is a historic statue in Providence, Rhode Island, United States which formerly stood on Elmwood Avenue in Columbus Square. The statue is a bronze cast of a sterling silver statue which was created by Rhode Island's Gorham Manufacturing Company for the 1892 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The original silver statue was not meant for permanent exhibition, but rather as a demonstration of the skills of the Gorham Company, and was later melted down. The bronze cast was dedicated November 8, 1893 as a gift from the Elmwood Association to the City of Providence. The statue was created in 1893 by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. It was removed from Columbus Square in 2020 by the City of Providence.

The South Side of Providence, Rhode Island, originally South Providence, is a term frequently used to describe the collective region comprising the official neighborhoods of Upper and Lower South Providence, Elmwood and the West End. The name was first used in the 1830s when the New York, Providence and Boston Railroad established its first station at a pier on the Providence River on a point of land about one half mile south of downtown Providence. The station was named South Providence.Hispanics comprise the majority of the population, with over half its residents claiming Hispanic ancestry, as compared to thirty percent of Providence residents as a whole. Consequently, it has a high percentage (64%) of children enrolled in public school whose first language is not English, with the most commonly spoken language being Spanish.The area continues to struggle with poverty issues; the South Side's median family income is $23,379 as compared with $32,058 for the city as a whole, and more than one out of three families lives in poverty.

Temple Beth-El, formerly known as the Broad Street Synagogue, is a historic Jewish synagogue at 688 Broad Street in Providence, Rhode Island, United States.

St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Convent, Rectory, and School is an historic Roman Catholic church complex at 251 Oxford Street in Providence, Rhode Island within the Diocese of Providence.

The Plymouth Congregational Church is an historic church building at 1014 Broad Street in Providence, Rhode Island. Completed in 1919 for a congregation founded in 1878, it is a well-preserved example of late Gothic Revival architecture, designed by Boston architect George F. Newton. Since 2016, the building has been home to the Iglesia Visión Evangélica congregation. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.

South Providence Library—Providence Community Library is an historic branch library building at 441 Prairie Avenue in Providence, Rhode Island. The main portion of the building is a single-story brick Colonial Revival structure, designed by Wallis Howe and built in 1930. Due to the constraints of the lot, Howe's otherwise standard design (used for constructing several other Providence branch libraries) was altered to place the building gable-end to the street. The street-facing facade has been obscured by a two-level glass-faced modern addition. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

The Central Diner, also called Paula's Kitchen and formerly known as The Elmwood Diner, Liberty Elm Diner, Jenn's Elmwood Diner, Ole Elmwood Diner, or Worcester Lunch Car Company Diner #806, is a historic Worcester Lunch Car Company diner at 777 Elmwood Avenue in Providence, Rhode Island.

WIGV-LP (96.5 FM) is a low-power FM radio station broadcasting a Spanish religious format. Licensed to Providence, Rhode Island, United States, the station is currently owned by Casa De Oracion Getsemani.

The Beaman and Smith Company Mill is an historic factory complex at 20 Gordon Avenue in Providence, Rhode Island. It consists of two masonry buildings at the junction of Gordon and Saratoga Streets in south Providence. The older of the two buildings is a one-to-two story brick structure, built in 1898 by the Berlin Iron Bridge Company. It has a steel frame, and is about 250 feet (76 m) long. The second building is an early example of concrete slab construction, built in 1917. It was designed by local industrial architecture firm, Jenks & Ballou. It is four stories in height, and is attached to the older building's south face. It originally had a brick surface, but much of this was stuccoed. The brick building presents four bays to Gordon Street, while the concrete one has two. The complex exemplifies two notable early modern construction methods, and is a symbol of the industrial development of south Providence in the late 19th century. Beaman and Smith was a manufacturer of precision machine tools; they went out of business in 1926. The complex was occupied for many years by the James Hill Manufacturing Company, who produced metal containers.The complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
