Battey–Barden House

Scituate ( ) is a town in Providence County, Rhode Island, United States. The population was 10,384 at the 2020 census.

The Scituate Reservoir is the largest inland body of water in the state of Rhode Island. It has an aggregate capacity of 39 billion US gallons (150,000,000 m3) and a surface area of 5.3 square miles (14 km2). It and its six tributary reservoirs—which make up a total surface area of 7.2 square miles (19 km2)—supply drinking water to more than 60 percent of the state population, including Providence. The surrounding drainage basin that provides water to the reservoir system covers an area of about 94 square miles (240 km2), which includes most of the town of Scituate and parts of Foster, Glocester, Johnston, and Cranston. The Scituate Reservoir is operated by Providence Water Supply Board.

Scituate High School is a school located in North Scituate, Rhode Island (in Providence County). The majority of students live in the villages of Hope, Clayville and North Scituate, Rhode Island. The official nickname of the school's athletic teams is the Spartans. According to a US News, 467 students attend Scituate High School. This is one of the few high schools in Rhode Island to receive a GreatSchools rating of 8 out of 10.

The Josephine White Block is an historic mixed-use commercial and residential building at 737-739 Cranston Street in the Elmwood section of southern Providence, Rhode Island, United States. It is a three-story structure with a stamped-metal facade, and sidewalls of brick (first floor) and clapboard (upper floors). It was built c. 1894 for Josephine White, a widow who lived nearby, and houses two storefronts in the first level and four living units above. The metal facade is the only known local installation of the St. Louis, Missouri-based Mesker Brothers, a nationally known manufacturer of metal architectural elements.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Radio Listening Posts were established by the Federal Communications Commission within the United States to listen to radio traffic during World War II. One of these was at Scituate, Rhode Island. Others were at Fort Ward (Washington), Winter Harbor, Maine, Amagansett, New York, Cheltenham, Maryland and Jupiter, Florida. About one year before the United States entered WW2 Thomas B. Cave was sent to Rhode Island to set up a secret radio listening post. The purpose of the post was to detect radio transmissions from German spies in the United States and assist in locating downed aircraft. In March 1941 he abandoned his first choice of Greenville, RI for a farmhouse with 183 acres of land located on Darby Road near Chopmist Hill in Scituate, Rhode Island. The FCC leased the farmhouse from Mr. William A. Suddard.The completed listening post contained over 80,000 feet of wire, 11 antennas and many advanced radio receivers. The site included two direction finding antennas. These could be rotated to get a bearing on the transmitting station. This information when compared with similar measurements from other distant stations allowed the transmitting location to be triangulated. The use of two of these antennas meant both parties in a conversation could be located.

The Amos Cook House is an historic house in Scituate, Rhode Island. Built in 1812, it is a 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure, five bays wide, with a large central chimney. The center entry is framed by a Greek Revival surround that was a later alteration, and there is a shed-roof porch extending along the southern (left) facade. The house has retained much of its interior woodwork. The house was built by Augustus and Carver Hopkins, members of Rhode Island's prominent Hopkins family. It was purchased, along with a number of farm outbuildings, by Amos Cook in 1865, and was converted into a summer residence in the early 20th century.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The Dexter Arnold Farmstead is a historic farmstead on Chopmist Hill Road (Rhode Island Route 102) in Scituate, Rhode Island. The main house, a 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure five bays wide, with a large central chimney, was built in 1813. The 3.6-acre (1.5 ha) property also has five outbuildings which appear (based in part on photographs of the property from 1860) to be near contemporaries to the house, a relative rarity in rural Rhode Island. The main barn survived into the 20th century, but was destroyed by the New England Hurricane of 1938. The property also includes a small family cemetery. The house, built by Dexter Arnold in land belonging to his father, remained in family hands until 1975.The farmhouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

The Old Congregational Church is an historic church building on Greenville Road (Rhode Island Route 116) in the Smithville-North Scituate village of Scituate, Rhode Island. The wood-frame shingled church was designed by Clark Sayles (a protege of noted church-builder Elias Carter) and complete in 1831. The church was regularly used in the 19th century, but attendance declined in the later years, and it was only occasional used until 1940, when it was given to the town. In 1974, the building was listed on National Register of Historic Places.The Scituate Art Festival has been held on the church grounds every autumn since 1967. The art festival was founded to raise funds to restore the church interior.

North Scituate is a village in the town of Scituate, Rhode Island. Since 1967, the village has been home to the Scituate Art Festival.Much of the community is included in a historic district on the Danielson Pike and West Greenville Road. The district contains many nineteenth-century buildings, including the Old Congregational Church (1834) and Smithville Seminary (1839). The Pentecostal Collegiate Institute (Rhode Island) was a co-educational interdenominational collegiate institute located at North Scituate, Rhode Island from September 1902 to 1918. PCI was incorporated in Rhode Island and operated by its own board in association with the Association of Pentecostal Churches of America (until October 1907). The Church of the Nazarene operated it after 1915. It is considered a predecessor to Eastern Nazarene College.

The Smithville Seminary was a Freewill Baptist institution established in 1839 on what is now Institute Lane in Smithville-North Scituate, Rhode Island. Renamed the Lapham Institute in 1863, it closed in 1876. The site was then used as the campus of the Pentecostal Collegiate Institute and later the Watchman Institute, and is now the Scituate Commons apartments. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
