North Scituate, Rhode Island

The Old Congregational Church is an historic church building on Greenville Road (Rhode Island Route 116) in the Smithville-North Scituate village of Scituate, Rhode Island. The wood-frame shingled church was designed by Clark Sayles (a protege of noted church-builder Elias Carter) and complete in 1831. The church was regularly used in the 19th century, but attendance declined in the later years, and it was only occasional used until 1940, when it was given to the town. In 1974, the building was listed on National Register of Historic Places.The Scituate Art Festival has been held on the church grounds every autumn since 1967. The art festival was founded to raise funds to restore the church interior.

The Pentecostal Collegiate Institute (Rhode Island) was a co-educational interdenominational collegiate institute located at North Scituate, Rhode Island from September 1902 to 1918. PCI was incorporated in Rhode Island and operated by its own board in association with the Association of Pentecostal Churches of America (until October 1907). The Church of the Nazarene operated it after 1915. It is considered a predecessor to Eastern Nazarene College.

The Smithville Seminary was a Freewill Baptist institution established in 1839 on what is now Institute Lane in Smithville-North Scituate, Rhode Island. Renamed the Lapham Institute in 1863, it closed in 1876. The site was then used as the campus of the Pentecostal Collegiate Institute and later the Watchman Institute, and is now the Scituate Commons apartments. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Seagrave Memorial Observatory is an astronomical observatory located in North Scituate, Rhode Island. It is named after astronomer Frank Evens Seagrave and is wholly owned and operated by Skyscrapers, Inc. The main instrument is an 8¼-inch Alvan Clark refracting telescope which was given to Frank Evens Seagrave for his 16th birthday in 1876, however the telescope took two years to build, so he did not receive it until 1878. The telescope and Seagrave Observatory (as the private observatory was then known) were originally at 119 Benefit Street in Providence. At the time it was the third largest telescope in New England. The telescope was moved to North Scituate in October 1914 when the construction of the current observatory was completed. The observatory was acquired by the Skycrapers in 1936 after the death of Seagrave.

The Andrews–Luther Farm (also known as the Harley Luther Farm) is a historic farm in Scituate, Rhode Island. It is located on the south side of Elmdale Road, a short way east of its junction with Harmony Road. The farm is a 45-acre (18 ha) property, with its main house, a c. 1768 wood-frame structure set near the road. It is 2+1⁄2 stories high, with a large central chimney, and a center entry on the south facade (i.e. facing away from the road) with vernacular Greek Revival styling. A corn crib dating to the late 19th or early 20th century stands further south on the property, and the foundational remains of older buildings dot the area. The farm is distinctive for retaining a large portion of its original setting, and for the detailed accounts of it which have been retained by Harley Luther's descendants.The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The Cornell—Randall—Bailey Roadhouse (also known as the Log Gift and Curtain Shoppe) is an historic building located at 2737 Hartford Avenue (United States Route 6) in western Johnston, Rhode Island. The oldest portion of this 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure was built in the late 18th century by Samuel Steere, and was substantially enlarged for use as a tavern in 1821 by Daniel Cornell. Business at the tavern declined when railroads rendered the highway less important, and the building was adapted for use as a bordello and gambling house in the early 20th century. In the 1970s it was converted for use as a gift shop.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 10, 1984.

Scituate High School is a school located in North Scituate, Rhode Island (in Providence County). The majority of students live in the villages of Hope, Clayville and North Scituate, Rhode Island. The official nickname of the school's athletic teams is the Spartans. According to a US News, 467 students attend Scituate High School. This is one of the few high schools in Rhode Island to receive a GreatSchools rating of 8 out of 10.

Providence County is included in the Providence-Warwick, RI-MA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which in turn constitutes a portion of the greater Boston-Worcester-Providence, MA-RI-NH-CT Combined Statistical Area. As of 2010, the center of population in Rhode Island is located in Providence County, in the city of Cranston.

The Eddy Homestead is a historic house at 2543 Hartford Avenue (United States Route 6) in rural western Johnston, Rhode Island. This 1+1⁄2-story vernacular wood-frame house is estimated to have been built in the late 18th or early 19th century, and is a well-preserved example of a period farmhouse. It is a floor plan distinctive to western Rhode Island, where the cooking fireplace is located in one of the front rooms, rather than the more typical placement at the rear of the house. The house was in the Eddy family for most of the 19th century.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Waterman Reservoir (also known as Waterman's Reservoir) is a large lake along Putnam Pike in Glocester and Greenville in Providence County, Rhode Island. The Waterman Reservoir was created in 1838 on the site of a swamp and is 318 acres (129 ha) when full with an average depth of nine feet (2.7 m). It was named after Resolved Waterman, an early eighteenth century Greenville resident and landowner. Prior to the creation of the reservoir, the area was swampy, so a dam was constructed to create the reservoir and at the same time a causeway (now part of the Putnam Pike) was built so travelers no longer had to go around the swamp using Austin Avenue, which prior to the 1930s was known as (Old) Killingly Road.

The Stillwater River is a river in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. It flows approximately 6.1 miles (9.8 km). There are four dams along the river's length.

The Brown Avenue Historic District is a rural historic district in Johnston, Rhode Island, USA. The district encompasses a rural and agricultural landscape centered on a 1-mile (1.6 km) stretch in the midsection of Brown Avenue, which runs between Hartford Avenue (United States Route 6) and Greenville Avenue (Rhode Island Route 5). There are five farmsteads, with the Dame Farmstead at its center, whose farmhouses date to the late 18th century. A number of these farms are no longer in production, and part of the district is in Snake Den State Park.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
