Shirebrook Academy (formerly Shirebrook School) is a coeducational secondary school with academy status, located in Shirebrook in the county of Derbyshire, and is part of the Aston Community Education Trust.Previously a community school administered by Derbyshire County Council, the school converted to academy status in September 2010 and was renamed Shirebrook Academy. An official opening occurred in November, 2010 with Lord Winston, then Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University, as guest speaker, lecturing a class about DNA and taking questions from the student council.The school is sponsored by Sheffield Hallam University, but continues to coordinate with Derbyshire County Council for admissions. Shirebrook Academy relocated into a new building on Common Lane in April 2013.The building is shared with Stubbin Wood School, a special school for children ages 2 to 19 who have learning disabilities including those on the autistic spectrum, which moved in April 2013 from its previous location in Burlington Avenue, Langwith Junction, a part of Shirebrook. Prior to relocation where the newer facility is three times the size, the school had a full quota of 133, and had a waiting list. The Stubbin Wood Nursery is still based at Burlington Avenue.In 2014 the school joined a consortium with The Bolsover School, Heritage High School and Springwell Community College to form 'Aspire Sixth Form', a sixth form provision that operated across all the school sites. Aspire Sixth Form closed in 2016 due to low pupil numbers.Principal Mark Cottingham took over from Julie Bloor in 2015.Associate Principal Lindsey Burgin took over from Mark Cottingham in September 2022.Shirebrook Academy offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils.

Shirebrook is a town in the Bolsover district in Derbyshire, England. Close to the boundaries with the districts of Mansfield and Bassetlaw of Nottinghamshire, it had a population of 13,300 in 2001, reducing to 9,760 at the 2011 Census. It is on the B6407, and close to the A632 road, between Mansfield and Bolsover. The town is served by Shirebrook railway station, on the Robin Hood Line.

Shirebrook North railway station was a railway station serving the town of Shirebrook in Derbyshire, England. It was on the Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway running from Chesterfield to Lincoln. The starion was also on the former Shirebrook North to Nottingham Victoria Line and the Sheffield District Railway. The station has since been demolished and housing now occupies parts of the site with some stub rails nearby serving a train scrapper.

Holy Trinity Church is a Grade II listed parish church in the Church of England in Shirebrook, Derbyshire.

Whaley is a small village in Derbyshire, England, located one mile from Whaley Thorns, 1+1⁄2 miles from Elmton, 1+1⁄2 miles from Langwith and 2+1⁄2 miles from Bolsover. The village has a garage and a former watermill, now a home, of which the large mill pond still survives. Set in arable farmland, the village was a farming settlement, and remains so to this day with several farming families living in the village. The Diocese of Derby archives record that there was an ancient chapel in the village, but no traces of that remain. A school, known as St Mary's Mission, and school house were built in the 1860s but both these are now residential. There are three pre-historic rock shelters behind the former school, on Magg Lane and opposite the pub, the Black Horse. These are linked to the Creswell Crags. Scarcliffe Park, an area of woodland to the south end of the village, has Bronze Age and Roman remains. It is surrounded by a Pale ditch. The village is a Conservation Area and has an active residents' association. The majority of the buildings are constructed from the local limestone. The Waterworks on Whaley Moor featured in Channel 4 series, Grand Designs.

Langwith Junction is a suburb of Shirebrook, in Derbyshire, England. Its name derives from the former Shirebrook North railway station, which was on the now-defunct Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway. It forms one of the six Langwith villages.

Nether Langwith is a village and civil parish, in the Bassetlaw district of Nottinghamshire, England. It is located 9 miles (14 km) east of Chesterfield and 8 miles (13 km) south west of Worksop. Nether Langwith lies east of the adjoining village, Langwith, which is in the district of Bolsover, Derbyshire, England. It is 527 hectares in size and lies on the banks of the River Poulter. The population at the 2011 census was 526.The local church is St Luke of Whaley Thorns, which was built in 1879 by J.B Mitchell-Withers. Whaley Thorns lies just north of Nether Langwith and 5 miles (8.0 km) of Bolsover. In 1924 it became a separate parish, but before then it was joined with the parish of Bolsover, of which St Mary's was the local church. St Luke's was a daughter church of St Mary's, of which there were three other daughter churches, St Winifred's in New Bolsover, St Peter's in Stanfree, St Laurence's at Shuttlewood. Of all of the daughter parish's, St Luke's is the only one to remain open. The village has two public houses, the Jug & Glass, on the Queens Walk at the centre of the village and the Gate Hotel, found on Main Road. The village has a coffee shop, named The Lemon Tree, located on Main Road – which has a very high customer rating. Lying just east of the village is Langwith Lodge, a fine pseudo Queen Anne style stately home, now a Nursing Home.

Scarcliffe is a village and civil parish in the Bolsover district of Derbyshire, England. It is sometimes called Scarcliffe with Palterton. The population of the parish (including the hamlets of Palterton, Rylah, Stockley, and parts of Stony Houghton and Hillstown (Bolsover)) at the 2001 UK Census was 5,211, increasing to 5,288 at the 2011 Census.
