Herndon Home

Alonzo Herndon Stadium, named for Alonzo Herndon, is an abandoned 15,011-seat stadium on the campus of Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. It is the only two-sided stadium in the Atlanta University Center. It is one block over from the locally known Herndon Home, and sits above the MARTA East-West rail line. The stadium opened in 1948. It is the largest stadium at an institution in the Atlanta University Center, and the only with stands on both sides.In addition to sports, the stadium hosted concerts. Ray Charles recorded a live album at the stadium.During the 1996 Summer Olympics, Herndon Stadium hosted field hockey. It was expanded and renovated ahead of the games. It was also used as the stand-in for the demolished Fairfield Stadium in Huntington, West Virginia during filming of the 2006 movie We Are Marshall.The stadium was the home to the former Georgia Mustangs and the former Atlanta Beat women's soccer club of the WUSA league, the latter of whom played there from 2001 until 2003.Due to the college's financial hardships, the stadium was abandoned and is in a state of disrepair, gutted by vandals and covered in graffiti and trash. The stadium was sold by Morris Brown College, and was abandoned in 2014. Its sale created controversy due to a land-use agreement with other members of the Atlanta University Center and historic property deeds. The stadium is now own by Clark Atlanta University. The school is planning to restore the stadium.

Jenningstown was a shantytown in Atlanta built on the top of, and around, what was then known as Diamond Hill in the First Ward. Atlanta University was built on the summit, opening in 1869. Its population shortly after the Civil War was 2,490, all black except for some white missionaries living there. It had rough roads and an inadequate water supply. Jenningstown is mentioned into the 20th century, though its boundaries were described as loosely defined; Beaver Slide was its southern border.

Fountain Hall, formerly Fairchild Hall and Stone Hall, is a historic academic building on the grounds of Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia. Built in 1882, it is the oldest surviving building originally associated with Atlanta University - now Clark Atlanta University - which is the first of all historically black colleges and universities in the American South founded September 19, 1865. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1974. It is now named after Bishop William A. Fountain.

Morris Brown College (MBC) is a private Methodist historically black liberal arts college in Atlanta, Georgia. Founded January 5, 1881, Morris Brown is the first educational institution in Georgia to be owned and operated entirely by African Americans.

The John H. Lewis Gymnasium is a 7,000 seat venue on the campus of Morris Brown College. It was home to the Atlanta Thoroughbreds National Indoor Football League team, and in the fall of 2007 will be home to the Atlanta Krunk Wolverines Continental Basketball Association team.

Hope Moving Forward is a public monument in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Dedicated in 2021, the monument consists of a bronze statue of Martin Luther King Jr. designed by Basil Watson atop a pedestal. It is located at the intersection of Northside Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Vine City is an at-grade train station in Atlanta, Georgia, serving the Blue and Green lines of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system. It is one of only two stations served by the Green and Blue lines at all times. Vine City primarily provides access to the Vine City area, overflow service to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, as well as access to the Atlanta University Center. It also features 27 parking spaces in a small on-site lot. Due to its dense location, it is not directly served with bus service; however, bus service is provided along the streets surrounding the station and at the nearby Hamilton E. Holmes station or Five Points station. As of 2013, Vine City only had a weekday average of 821 entries, making it the least busy station.

Panther Stadium is a 5,000-seat stadium located on the campus of Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. It was the secondary venue for field hockey events during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. It is currently home to the Clark Atlanta Panthers, NCAA Division II member. The athletics track surrounding the field was moved there from Centennial Olympic Stadium after the Olympic events concluded and the stadium was converted into Turner Field.

Clark Atlanta University (CAU or Clark Atlanta) is a private, Methodist, historically black research university in Atlanta, Georgia. Clark Atlanta is the first Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the Southern United States. Founded on September 19, 1865, as Atlanta University, it consolidated with Clark College (established 1869) to form Clark Atlanta University in 1988. It is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity".

The Bank of America Atlanta Football Classic was an annual football classic game between two historically black colleges and universities. The game has since been replaced by the Celebration Bowl HBCU championship game.

The Georgia Dome was a domed stadium in the Southeastern United States. Located in Atlanta between downtown to the east and Vine City to the west, it was owned and operated by the State of Georgia as part of the Georgia World Congress Center Authority. Its successor, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, was built adjacent to the south and opened on August 26, 2017. The Georgia Dome was demolished on November 20, 2017.The Georgia Dome was the home stadium for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL) and the Georgia State University Panthers football team. It hosted two Super Bowls (XXVIII and XXXIV), 25 editions of the Peach Bowl (January 1993–December 2016) and 23 SEC Championship Games (1994−2016). In addition, the Georgia Dome also hosted several soccer matches since 2009 with attendances over 50,000. In its 25 years of operation, the Georgia Dome hosted over 1,400 events attended by over 37 million people. The Georgia Dome was the only stadium in the United States to host the Olympics, Super Bowl and Final Four.At its debut in 1992, the Georgia Dome was the second-largest covered stadium in the world by capacity, behind the Pontiac Silverdome; it was also surpassed by AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

Rodney Cook Sr. Park, is a 16-acre (6.5 ha) park in the Vine City neighborhood of Atlanta, adjacent to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. It is named after the politician Rodney Mims Cook Sr. The park officially opened on 29 June 2021.The park's construction was completed by a partnership among The Trust for Public Land, the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation, the City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management, and the local community.
