Rainsborough Camp

The Cottage, Charlton, Northamptonshire, England is a house of 18th century origins. In 1907 it was bought by F. E. Smith, 1st Earl of Birkenhead as his country home. Smith subsequently purchased another cottage on Main Street in Charlton and engaged Alan James to extend the house in 1911–12. James constructed a large central block to join the two cottages, and remodelled the grounds. Smith entertained at The Cottage throughout his legal and political careers, among his most frequent guests was Winston Churchill, his closest friend. Smith, ennobled as Viscount Furneaux, of Charlton in the County of Northampton, and Earl of Birkenhead in 1922, died of pneumonia caused by cirrhosis of the liver in 1930, aged 58. After cremation at Golders Green Crematorium, his ashes were brought to Charlton and interred in a tomb designed by Edwin Lutyens in the cemetery on Green Lane, just outside of the village. The Cottage remains a private residence and is a Grade II listed building.

Charlton is a village in the parish of Newbottle, Northamptonshire, England in between Brackley and Kings Sutton, lying close to a small tributary of the River Cherwell. At the 2011 census the population was included in the civil parish of Newbottle, with a total population of around 540.Other nearby villages include Croughton, Aynho and Hinton-in-the-Hedges. The remains of an Iron Age fort, Rainsborough Camp, lie just to the south of the village.The lawyer and politician F.E. Smith, 1st Earl of Birkenhead lived on Main Street in the village, in a house called The Cottage. He took as his second peerage title Viscount Furneaux of Charlton, and his ashes are buried in the village cemetery.

Aynho (, formerly spelt Aynhoe) is a village and civil parish in West Northamptonshire, England, on the edge of the Cherwell valley 6 miles (9.7 km) south-east of the north Oxfordshire town of Banbury and 7 miles (11 km) southwest of Brackley. Along with its neighbour Croughton 2 miles (3.2 km) to the east, it is one of the two southernmost villages in Northamptonshire. It is the southernmost settlement in Northamptonshire and indeed the entire English East Midlands region.

Newbottle is a civil parish and largely deserted village in West Northamptonshire, about 4 miles (6.4 km) west of the market town of Brackley. It is close to the Oxfordshire county boundary and about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) south-east of the town of Banbury. The village's name means 'new building'.A stream that is a tributary of the River Cherwell forms the parish boundary to the north-west. The remainder of the parish boundary mostly follows field boundaries. The parish includes the larger village of Charlton, about 0.5 miles (800 m) south-east of Newbottle. The 2001 census recorded a parish population of 438, most of whom live in Charlton. increasing to a joint population of 528 at the 2011 census,

Aynhoe Park (alternately known as Aynho Park) is a 17th-century country estate consisting of land and buildings that were rebuilt after the English Civil War on the southern edge of the stone-built village of Aynho, Northamptonshire, England. It overlooks the Cherwell valley that divides Northamptonshire from Oxfordshire. The core buildings represent four architectural periods: Jacobean, Carolean and both the early 18th and 19th centuries.The estate has been owned by RH since 2020. It is the site of their retail and hospitality experience "RH England, The Gallery at Aynho Park", and also the location of an active and renowned white deer farm producing high-end venison. Up to 1954, it was the family home of the Cartwright family. Since then, it was used for fifty years as a retirement apartment complex, and has for the last twenty years been an events-led, multi-use site. It has been listed Grade I on the National Heritage List for England since September 1953. Its wider grounds form part of a Grade II listed 'Park and Garden'.

Croughton is a village and civil parish in West Northamptonshire, England, about 3 miles (5 km) southwest of Brackley. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 992.The village is on the B4031 road about 390 feet (120 m) above sea level, on the south side of an east–west ridge. The parish is 1+1⁄2 miles (2.4 km) wide east–west and 2+1⁄2 miles (4 km) wide north–south. Its southern boundary is Ockley Brook, which also forms part of the county boundary with Oxfordshire. Ockley Brook is a tributary of the River Cherwell. Croughton is Northamptonshire's second most southerly village, second only to neighbouring Aynho.

Souldern is a village and civil parish in Oxfordshire about 7 miles (11 km) northwest of Bicester and a similar distance southeast of Banbury. The parish is bounded to the west by the River Cherwell and to the east by field boundaries. Its northern boundary is Ockley Brook, a tributary of the Cherwell that forms the county boundary with Northamptonshire. The parish's southern boundaries are the main road between Bicester and Adderbury and the minor road between Souldern and Somerton. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 370.Souldern's toponym is derived from the Old English Sulh-þorn meaning "Thorn-bush in a gully".

Hinton-in-the-Hedges Airfield is an airfield on the west side of Hinton-in-the-Hedges near Brackley, Northamptonshire, England. The airfield is made up of several runways, one of which is Asphalt and measures 700 m (2,297 ft) long. It consists of several well-drained, short-mown grass runways which are designated as 06/24, 09/27, and 15/33. The field is flat and plays home to many activities, including both powered flight and unpowered flying with gliders. The skydiving centre is open 6 days a week (closed Mondays), and skydiving takes place weather permitting. During the British Grand Prix at nearby Silverstone, it is used as a park and ride.

Blessed George Napier Catholic School, known locally as BGN, is a Catholic secondary school and sixth form with academy status. It is located on Addison Road in the Easington ward of Banbury, Oxfordshire, England.

Harry Dunn was a 19-year-old British man who died following a road traffic collision on 27 August 2019. He was riding his motorcycle near Croughton, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom, near the exit to RAF Croughton, when a car travelling in the opposite direction and on the wrong side of the road collided with him. The car was driven by Anne Sacoolas, who was working for the United States Intelligence Community at the time of the collision; she is married to CIA employee Jonathan Sacoolas, stationed at the time at USAF listening station RAF Croughton. Sacoolas admitted that she had been driving the car on the wrong side of the road, and the police said that, based on CCTV footage, they believed that to be true. Dunn was pronounced dead at the Major Trauma Centre of John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. The collision caused diplomatic tension between UK and US officials. Sacoolas fled the UK soon after the incident and claimed diplomatic immunity with US support. On 20 October 2022 she pleaded guilty at a UK court to causing the death of Harry Dunn by careless driving. On 8 December 2022 she was sentenced to eight months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, and disqualified from driving for 12 months. She had not attended the sentencing in person on the advice of the US government despite the request of the judge.
