Løgum Abbey

Løgumkloster (German: Lügumkloster; both mean 'Løgum monastery'), is a town in Tønder Municipality in Region of Southern Denmark on the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark with a population of 3,419 (1 January 2023). Its name testifies that the town was once the site of the Cistercian Løgum Abbey, in the then Roman Catholic diocese of Ribe. Løgumkloster was the municipal seat of the now abolished Løgumkloster Municipality.

Løgumkloster Municipality named for the town Løgumkloster, existed until 1 January 2007, covering an area of 200 km2 and with a total population of 6,846 (2005). Its last mayor was Kaj Armann, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The municipality was created in 1970 as the result of a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that combined a number of existing parishes: Bedsted Parish Højst Parish Løgumkloster Parish Nørre Løgum Parish.Løgumkloster Municipality ceased to exist due to Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It was merged with Bredebro, Højer, Nørre-Rangstrup, Skærbæk, and Tønder municipalities to form an enlarged Tønder municipality. This created a municipality with an area of 1,352 km2 and a total population of 42,645 (2005).

Jutland (Danish: Jylland [ˈjyˌlænˀ]) is a peninsula of Northern Europe that forms the continental portion of Denmark and part of northern Germany. The town was the original home of the ECCO shoe manufacturing company. Until 1 January 2007 Bredebro was the seat of the former Bredebro Municipality (Danish, kommune).

The Vidå (German: Wiedau, North Frisian Widuu) is a creek in the Jutland region of Denmark. The creek starts east of Tønder and flows to the west, ending in the North Sea. In places the Vidå marks the border between Denmark and Germany (through the Rudbøl Sø). South of the river live the North Frisians.

Tønder Municipality (Danish: Tønder Kommune, German: Kommune Tondern, North Frisian: Tuner Komuun) is a kommune in the Region of Southern Denmark on the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 1,252 km2, and has a total population of 36,878 (2023). Its mayor is Jørgen Popp Petersen, a member of the regional Schleswig Party.The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Tønder. It consists of six old municipalities, the former Tønder municipality (1970-2006) with 12,706 inhabitants in January 2000 on 184.59 square kilometers among them.

The Renbæk Prison is an open prison in Denmark located in Renbæk, 10 km. east of Skaerbaek. The site originally housed a camp for young unemployed people in 1943 but was temporarily taken over by the Prison and Probation Service to house inmates from the open government work house program. The prison was taken over by the German occupiers, and in 1946 it was converted into a real state prison. During the 1960s, the majority of its present buildings were built on the site. Of the prisons 160 seats only 14 is in double cells. Prison offers a range of courses, particularly in agriculture and forestry.

Tønder (Danish pronunciation: [ˈtsʰønˀɐ]; German: Tondern [ˈtɔndɐn]) is a town in the Region of Southern Denmark. With a population of 7,574 (as of 1 January 2023), it is the main town and the administrative seat of the Tønder Municipality.

Døstrup is a village with a population of 297 (1 January 2023) in Southern Jutland in Denmark. Døstrup is located six kilometers south of Skærbæk, seven kilometers north of Bredebro and 22 kilometers north of Tønder.

The Tondern raid or Operation F.7, was a British bombing raid mounted by the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force against the Imperial German Navy airship base at Tønder, Denmark, then a part of Germany. The airships were used for the strategic bombing of Britain. It was the first attack in history by aircraft from an aircraft carrier. On 19 July 1918, seven Sopwith Camels took off from the converted battlecruiser HMS Furious. For the loss of one man and several aircraft, the British destroyed Zeppelins L 54, L 60 and a captive balloon.

The municipality covered an area of 302 km2, and had a total population of 9,502 (2005). Its last mayor was Ole Østvig Nissen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Toftlund. The municipality was created in 1970 as the result of a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that merged a number of existing parishes: Agerskov (German: Aggerschau), Parish Arrild Parish Bevtoft (German: Beftoft), Parish Branderup Parish Tirslund (German: Tieslund), Parish Toftlund ParishNørre-Rangstrup municipality ceased to exist due to Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It was merged with existing Bredebro, Højer, Løgumkloster, Skærbæk, and Tønder municipalities to form the new Tønder municipality. This created a municipality with an area of 1,352 km2 and a total population of 42,645 (2005).

The Music and Theater Folk High School (Danish: Musik og Teaterhøjskolen) was a Danish folk high school in Toftlund , Denmark, which specialized in the performing arts. Like many folk high schools today, it prepared many young people (from 18 years of age) for higher education in the performing arts, while maintaining the folk high school tradition of having no requirements for entrance or graduation exams.
