The Kirkwood School, at 138 Kirkwood Rd. in the DeKalb County portion of Atlanta, Georgia, is a school complex which served as a school until 1996, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. The listing included four contributing buildings on 2.9 acres (1.2 ha). It has also been known as Kirkwood Elementary School. It is included in the Kirkwood Historic District. The original school, built in 1906, was designed by architects Bruce, Everett and Hayes. The largest building in the campus is the main school building (1922) which was expanded in 1924 and 1928. The campus also includes a cafeteria building (1950), and a library building (1964).The main Kirkwood school building is a two-story, H-shaped building with Colonial Revival style, designed by John F. Downing and completed in 1922.The 1928 expansion added eight classrooms to the north side of the main building, and was designed by G. Lloyd Preacher. It continued the main building's "double-loaded corridor with flanking classrooms" in compatible Colonial Revival style.Desegregation of the school began in 1965. All eighteen teachers and nearly all of the 500 white students transferred out. In 1967 the Kirkwood neighborhood area became predominantly African American.

Pullman Yard or Pullman Yards is a former industrial complex in the Kirkwood neighborhood of Atlanta, comprising a plot of 27 acres (11 ha) used by the Pratt Engineering Company from 1904 and the Pullman Company from 1926 to 1955. The site was placed on the Atlanta Preservation Center's endangered places list in 2001, although it has been contested that they have the authority to do so. As Pratt-Pullman Yard, it is a contributing site to the 2009 designation of the Kirkwood Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places.

WXIA-TV (channel 11) is a television station in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, affiliated with NBC. It is owned by Tegna Inc. alongside MyNetworkTV affiliate WATL (channel 36). Both stations share studios at One Monroe Place on the north end of midtown Atlanta, while WXIA-TV's transmitter is located in the city's east section, near Kirkwood. Atlanta is the largest television market where the NBC station is not owned and operated by the network.WXIA-TV is popularly known within the Atlanta metropolitan area by its longtime on-air brand, 11 Alive, which the station has used since 1976.

Alonzo A. Crim Open Campus High School (COCHS) is a public high school in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. It is located at 256 Clifton Street SE. It replaced Alonzo A. Crim Comprehensive High School after it closed in 2005. Part of Atlanta Public Schools, it is located in southeast Atlanta, in the Kirkwood neighborhood. The school is inside DeKalb County.

The district included 1788 contributing buildings, a contributing structure, and three contributing sites on 850 acres (3.4 km2).It includes the Kirkwood School (1906), designed by Bruce, Everett and Hayes, which was already separately listed on the National Register. The district is roughly bounded by Memorial Dr., Montgomery St., Hosea Williams Dr., Rogers St., CSX RR., & city limits. It includes Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, and Classical Revival architecture, and includes residential and commercial and government buildings. South Decatur Trolley Trail is a hiking and biking trail built by PATH in Atlanta, Georgia in the United States. The right-of-way was originally a part of the South Atlanta's Metropolitan Street Railroad Company and the section of the trail was separated from public roadways. The route which ran through Edgewood, Kirkwood and Oakhurst eventually became Route 18 of the Georgia Power Streetcar system but since it runs out-of-band is ideal for cyclists and runners today.

Candler Park is a 55-acre (223,000 m2) city park located at 585 Candler Park Drive NE, in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. It is named after Coca-Cola magnate Asa Griggs Candler, who donated this land to the city in 1922. The park features a nine-hole golf course, a swimming pool, a football/soccer field, a basketball court, tennis courts, and a playground. Candler Park is also the name of the neighborhood surrounding the park. It is on the east side of the city, bordering Little Five Points, Lake Claire, Inman Park, Druid Hills, and Edgewood. The Candler Park Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 8, 1983, with a boundary increase on March 17, 2005. It includes portions of Lake Claire. MARTA rapid transit rail service is available at the Edgewood/Candler Park station.

Ann's Snack Bar was a small restaurant in the Kirkwood neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia famous for its hamburgers. It was owned and operated solely by Ann Price, known to patrons as "Miss Ann," and was in operation from 1971 to 2022. The house special was called the "Ghetto Burger," a double bacon chili cheeseburger with a secret ingredient, which her patrons named as a joke. Another signature burger with cole slaw was called the "Hood Burger."A 2007 article in The Wall Street Journal called the Ghetto Burger the best hamburger in America. In the same article, the author declared Atlanta to be the best city for hamburgers, citing the Vortex (in Little Five Points and Midtown Atlanta) and the EARL (in East Atlanta) as other Atlanta restaurants with top hamburgers. Fans include celebrity Sean Combs and a "horde of Twitter-driven food enthusiasts", who began to discover the restaurant after a 1998 Atlanta Constitution article.Price had been attempting to sell the restaurant and retire since 2009, initially setting the value at $1.5 million. As of late 2010, the difficult real estate market had forced her to lower her asking price.Price died on April 18, 2015, at the age of 72. Cause of death was not stated, but Price had been suffering from blood clots and breast cancer. The restaurant remained open, as Price had taken on assistants over the few years prior including her cousin Adele, and was most recently ran by Price's sister and three brothers.As of April 2022, the diner has closed.

In 1998 East Lake Golf Club's No. 2 golf course was transformed into the Charlie Yates Golf Course, a 9-hole "executive" public course that also provides golf education to children living in the city of Atlanta. The course was rated one of the top 10 short range courses in America by Golf Range Magazine and all profits from the course go to benefit the East Lake Foundation.Charlie Yates was an East Lake golfer who won the British Amateur in 1938. Charlie grew up on Second Avenue, the street which separated East Lake's main course from its No. 2 course. His boyhood hero was Bobby Jones whom he knew and played with on the course at East Lake.

Lake Claire is a neighborhood on the east side of Atlanta, Georgia, United States, comprising approximately 1,200 homes. It is situated entirely in the DeKalb County side of the city, east of Candler Park, north of Kirkwood, west of Decatur, and south of Druid Hills. There was never an actual body of water known as Lake Claire; rather, it was a shorthand for the intersection of Lakeshore and Claire Drives. The closest thing to a commercial district is the small strip bordering Candler Park at McLendon and Clifton. Part of the neighborhood lies with the Candler Park Historic District, which has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
