Frilford

Abingdon Preparatory School (formerly known as Josca's until 2007, and informally known as Abingdon Prep), is an independent preparatory school in the rural setting of Frilford, near Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England. It is part of the Abingdon Foundation – a collective name for both it, and Abingdon School. Abingdon Preparatory School caters for boys between 4 and 13. The School is a leading Preparatory School with the latest report stating 'The pupils’ achievement both inside and outside the classroom was exceptional'. in the inspection undertaken by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) branch of the Independent Schools Council.

Frilford Heath Golf Club is a 54-hole golf club in Frilford, Oxfordshire, set amongst 500 acres of heathland to the southwest of Oxford city.

Frilford Heath, Ponds and Fens is a 108.8-hectare (269-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Frilford, west of Abingdon in Oxfordshire. An area of 3 hectares (7.4 acres), separate from the main site is Hitchcopse Pit, a nature reserve managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.Natural England describes the acid grassland, heathland and valley fens of this site as unique in southern England. Over 400 vascular plants have been recorded, including some which are nationally rare. There are unusual insects such as the wasp Microdynerus exilis, which was only recognised as native to Britain in the late twentieth century, the red data book of threatened species fly Cheilosia mutabilis, and the nationally uncommon Epistrophe diaphana.There is no public access the main site, which is almost all on Frilford Heath Golf Course, but Hitchcopse Pit is open to the public.

Denman, formally Denman College, was a residential adult education college centred on what was Marcham Park at Marcham in the English county of Oxfordshire (formerly Berkshire). Founded by the National Federation of Women’s Institutes (NFWI) in 1948, Denman offered day schools and residential courses in cookery, craft and lifestyle, as well a variety of events, conferences and weddings. In July 2020 the NFWI trustees announced the proposed permanent closure of the college.

Tubney is a small village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Fyfield and Tubney, in the Vale of White Horse district, in Oxfordshire, England (in Berkshire until 1974). It lies about 3 miles (5 km) west of Abingdon-on-Thames, just south of the A420 road from Oxford to Faringdon, 9 miles (14 km) southwest of Oxford. In 1951 the parish had a population of 215.

Marcham is a village and civil parish about 2 miles (3 km) west of Abingdon, Oxfordshire. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 1,905. The parish includes the hamlets of Cothill 1+3⁄4 miles (2.8 km) east-northeast of the village, and Gozzard's Ford 1+1⁄2 miles (2.4 km) northeast of the village. Frilford and Garford used to be townships of Marcham parish, but are now separate civil parishes. All these parishes were part of Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred them to Oxfordshire. Marcham parish extends about 3+1⁄2 miles (5.6 km) north–south and up to 1+1⁄2 miles (2.4 km) east–west. It is bounded to the south by the River Ock and to the east largely by Sandford Brook, a tributary of the Ock. To the west it is bounded largely by field boundaries. To the north the parish tapers almost to a point, bounded to the west by the A338 road, to the north by the A420 road and to the east by field boundaries. The land is low-lying, rising from about 177 feet (54 m) above sea level by the Ock in the south to 312 feet (95 m) at Upwood Park in the north. Marcham village is on the A415 road, which runs east–west through the parish. The A415 links Abingdon and A34 Marcham interchange to the east with Kingston Bagpuize on the A420 road to the west.

Garford is a village and civil parish about 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Abingdon. It was part of Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred it to Oxfordshire. The parish is bounded by the River Ock to the north, by two tributaries of the Ock to the south (Childrey Brook and Nor Brook), and by field boundaries and the road between Kingston Bagpuize and West Hanney to the west. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 229.

Fyfield and Tubney is a civil parish in The Vale of White Horse district of Oxfordshire, England. It includes the village of Fyfield which is about 4.5 miles (7 km) west of Abingdon and Tubney, which is about 4 miles (6 km) west of Abingdon. The parish was formed in 1952 when the parish of Fyfield was merged with the parish of Tubney. It was part of Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred it to Oxfordshire.

Faringdon was a rural district in the administrative county of Berkshire from 1894 to 1974. It was formed under the Local Government Act 1894 based on that part of the Faringdon rural sanitary district which was in Berkshire; however, it also included for a time Lechlade, a small market town in Gloucestershire. It was situated in the northwest region of historic Berkshire, but the area was transferred to Oxfordshire in 1974 and is now in the southwestern region of that county. The Faringdon rural district bordered Gloucestershire to the northwest, Wiltshire to the west and Oxfordshire and the River Thames to the north. It was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, and merged with other districts to form the new Vale of White Horse, which was in the new non-metropolitan county of Oxfordshire.

Abingdon was a rural district in the administrative county of Berkshire from 1894 to 1974. It was formed under the Local Government Act 1894 based on that part of the Abingdon rural sanitary district which was in Berkshire (the Oxfordshire part forming Culham Rural District). It nearly surrounded, but did not include, the municipal borough of Abingdon, and in the north was close to Oxford. The district was governed locally by the Abingdon Rural District Council which, in the 1960s, consisted of 35 members. The offices of the council were in Bath Street, Abingdon.It was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, and merged with other districts to form the new Vale of White Horse, which was in the new non-metropolitan county of Oxfordshire.

Hitchcopse Pit is a 3-hectare (7.4-acre) nature reserve north-west of Abingdon-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. It is managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust. It is part of Frilford Heath, Ponds and Fens, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.This former sand quarry has heath, woodland, scrub, grassland and a pond. There are many solitary bees and wasps, which create burrows in the soft sand walls of the quarry. The ground has many lichens and grassland plants, and there are scattered boulders which are covered with mosses.

Fyfield is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Fyfield and Tubney, in the Vale of White Horse district, in the county of Oxfordshire, England. It is about 4+1⁄2 miles (7 km) west of Abingdon-on-Thames. It was part of Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred it to Oxfordshire. The village used to be on the main A420 road between Oxford and Faringdon, but a bypass now carries the main road just south of the village. In 1951 the parish had a population of 280. On 1 April 1952 the parish was abolished and merged with Tubney to form "Fyfield and Tubney".
