Berthoud Pass

Berthoud Falls is a populated place located south of Berthoud Pass on U.S. Highway 40 in north-central Colorado. The elevation is 9,800 feet.

Vasquez Pass, elevation 11,693 ft (3,564 m), is a mountain pass that crosses the Continental Divide in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado in the United States.

Engelmann Peak is a high mountain summit in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. The 13,368-foot (4,075 m) thirteener is located in Arapaho National Forest, 6.3 miles (10.2 km) west by south (bearing 261°) of the Town of Empire in Clear Creek County, Colorado, United States. The mountain was named in honor of the botanist George Engelmann.The mountain is named for George Engelmann (1809-1884) a famous botanist responsible for describing and naming flora in the Rocky Mountains. He was born and educated in Germany and received his medical degree there. In 1832, he sailed to America. His financial backing had come from relatives in Germany who wanted him to invest in the lands of the new country so he explored areas in Illinois, Missouri and Arkansas.

The Vasquez Peak Wilderness is a U.S. Wilderness Area located southwest of Winter Park, Colorado. The 12,300-acre (5,000 ha) wilderness established in 1993 in the Arapaho and Roosevelt national forests has 15 miles (24 km) of trails.

The Henderson molybdenum mine is a large underground molybdenum mine west of the town of Empire in Clear Creek County, Colorado, USA. The Henderson mine, which has produced molybdenum since 1976, is owned by Freeport-McMoRan. The Henderson mine is North America's largest producer of primary molybdenum. 2007 production was 40 million pounds of molybdenum, with a value of $1.1 billion.

Parry Peak, elevation 13,397 ft (4,083 m), is a summit in the Front Range of central Colorado. The peak is on the continental divide southeast of Winter Park in the Arapahoe National Forest. The name honors Charles Christopher Parry, a botanist who made extensive studies of the Colorado mountain flora in the 1860s. It is one of the 637 thirteeners (peaks over 13,000 ft elevation) in the state of Colorado and lies along the Continental Divide Trail. Parry Peak is also the highest peak of the James Group of the Front Range of Colorado.

Winter Park is a home rule municipality in Grand County, Colorado, United States. The permanent population was 1,033 at the 2020 census, although with 2,572 housing units within the town limits the seasonal population can be much higher. It is home to Winter Park Resort, a ski resort owned by the City of Denver and managed by Alterra Mountain Company. The town and resort are served by the Winter Park Express ski train run by Amtrak. The area also has cross-country skiing opportunities, including Devil's Thumb Ranch. In the spring and summer, Winter Park is known for mountain biking, concerts, hiking, and fishing.

Bard Peak is a high and prominent mountain summit in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. The 13,647-foot (4,160 m) thirteener is located in Arapaho National Forest, 4.5 miles (7.2 km) west-northwest (bearing 293°) of the Town of Silver Plume in Clear Creek County, Colorado, United States.

Mount Bancroft is a 13,250 feet (4,040 m) peak in Grand and Clear Creek counties. It is located west of the town of Empire, within a group of mountain peaks called the James Group that also includes Mount Flora, Mount Eva, Parry Peak, James Peak, and Colorado Mines Peak.Mount Bancroft is named for Dr. Frederick J. Bancroft, who is noted for his work in public health and the state's history. The summit was named for the doctor at the request of his son, George Jarvis Bancroft (1873-1945). The decision by the United States Geological Survey to name the summit Mount Bancroft was made on March 7, 1906. Below the summit is Lake Caroline, named for his granddaughter, Caroline Bancroft.

Mount Parnassus is a high mountain summit in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. The 13,580-foot (4,139 m) thirteener is located in Arapaho National Forest, 5.4 miles (8.7 km) west-northwest (bearing 288°) of the Town of Silver Plume in Clear Creek County, Colorado, United States.

The 1972 NCAA Skiing Championships were contested in Winter Park, Colorado at the nineteenth annual NCAA-sanctioned ski tournament to determine the individual and team national champions of men's collegiate alpine, cross country skiing, and ski jumping in the United States.Host Colorado, coached by alumnus Bill Marolt, captured their third national championship (and first since 1960), finishing 5.2 points ahead of three-time defending champion Denver in the team standings.Colorado's Mike Porcarelli reclaimed the slalom and alpine titles he won two years earlier; the repeat champions were Otto Tschudi of Denver in downhill and Bruce Cunningham of New Hampshire in Nordic combined. Denver's Odd Hammernes won his second jumping title, three years after the first.In the downhill race, Utah sophomore David Novelle was killed after he lost a ski, went off the course, and collided with a tree. As a result, the Utah team withdrew from the competition.
