British Ceylon (Sinhala: බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය ලංකාව, romanised: Britānya Langkāwa; Tamil: பிரித்தானிய இலங்கை, romanised: Biritthāṉiya Ilaṅkai), officially British Settlements and Territories in the Island of Ceylon with its Dependencies from 1802 to 1833, then the Island of Ceylon and its Territories and Dependencies from 1833 to 1931 and finally the Island of Ceylon and its Dependencies from 1931 to 1948, was the British Crown colony of present-day Sri Lanka between 1796 and 4 February 1948. Initially, the area it covered did not include the Kingdom of Kandy, which was a protectorate, but from 1817 to 1948 the British possessions included the whole island of Ceylon, now the nation of Sri Lanka. The British Ceylon period is the history of Sri Lanka between 1815 and 1948. It follows the fall of the Kandyan Kingdom into the hands of the British Empire. It ended over 2300 years of Sinhalese monarchy rule on the island. The British rule on the island lasted until 1948 when the country regained independence following the Sri Lankan independence movement.

Uruwala Valagamba Raja Maha Vihara (Sinhalaː ඌරුවල වලගම්බා රජ මහා විහාරය) is an ancient Buddhist temple in Uruwala, Sri Lanka. The temple is located on Wathurugama road and approximately 4.71 km (2.93 mi) away from Miriswatta junction. It is located on the Gampaha - Wathurugama road approximately 3.8 km (2.4 mi) away from the Miriswatta junction and 1.6 km (0.99 mi) from the ancient Buddhist temple, Maligatenna Raja Maha Vihara. The temple has been formally recognised by the Government as an archaeological site in Sri Lanka.

Maligatenna Raja Maha Vihara (Sinhala: මාලිගාතැන්න රජ මහා විහාරය/මාලිගාතැන්න ආරණ්‍ය සේනාසනය) is an ancient Cave temple located in Malwatuhiripitiya village, Gampaha District, Sri Lanka. The temple is located on the Gampaha-Wathurugama Road and approximately 1.6 km (0.99 mi) away from the ancient temple Pilikuththuwa Raja Maha Vihara. Currently this temple has been recognized as an archaeological protected site in Gampaha District by Archaeological department.

Koskandawala Sri Sunandarama Piriven Raja Maha Vihara (Sinhalaː කොස්කඳවල ශ්‍රී සුනන්දාරාම පිරිවෙන් රජ මහා විහාරය) is an old Buddhist temple in Koskandawala, Sri Lanka. The temple is located on Yakkala – Radawana road approximately 2.66 km (1.66 mi) away from Yakkala town. The temple has been formally recognized by the Government as an archaeological site in Sri Lanka.Uruwala, Maligatenna, Warana, Miriswatta and Pilikuththuwa cave temples, situated in the vicinity of the Koskandawala temple are said to have been formed from one major temple complex in the early Anuradhapura period.

Kiribathgoda (Sinhala: කිරිබත්ගොඩ, Tamil: கிரிபத்கொடை) is a suburb of Gampaha and is situated on A1 highway, between Kelaniya and Kadawatha. It is the first commercial E-Suburb in Sri Lanka. The suburb is located 12 km away from Colombo Fort centre. It is also linked to Makola by road. Sinhalese ethnicity is the largest demographic in Kiribathgoda with a majority of Sinhalese belonging to Buddhism, and a significant minority belonging to Christianity (majority; Catholicism). There are a multitudinous number of Buddhist temples spread throughout Kiribathgoda and a Catholic church in the outskirts of Kiribathgoda.

Bandaranayake College Gampaha (Sinhala: බණ්ඩාරනායක විද්‍යාලය ගම්පහ) is a leading Buddhist Boys' school in Gampaha, Sri Lanka, founded on 18 September 1918. The school has a student population exceeding 5,000 across 8 grades from grade 6 to advanced level classes, on a campus of 2.83 ha (7.0 acres). Boys are admitted at grade six, based on the results of an island-wide Scholarship Examination.

The Gampaha Wickramarachchi Institute, which had been affiliated with the University of Kelaniya, was elevated to university status in 2021. The decision has been described by some commentators as primarily political rather than based on long-term planning or infrastructure development. In addition to programs in Ayurveda and Indigenous medicine, the university has introduced new degree programs in fields such as biomedical technology, health information and communication technology, and management. These expansions have drawn criticism from academic reviewers, who argue that such programs fall outside the scope of Indigenous medicine and may affect the recognition of the degrees. A five-member expert committee, including representatives of the University Grants Commission (UGC), reportedly recommended that the programs be transferred to more appropriate universities.
