Alpes-Maritimes (French: [alp(ə)maʁitim]; Occitan: Aups Maritims; Italian: Alpi Marittime, "Maritime Alps") is a department of France located in the country's southeast corner, on the Italian border and Mediterranean coast. Part of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, it encompasses the French Riviera alongside neighbouring Var. Alpes-Maritimes had a population of 1,094,283 in 2019. Its prefecture (and largest city) is Nice, with Grasse as the sole subprefecture. Alpes-Maritimes has become one of the world's most attractive tourist destinations in recent decades, featuring renowned cities and towns such as Nice, Grasse, Cannes, Antibes, Menton, Èze, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and Sainte-Agnès, as well as numerous alpine ski resorts. It also entirely surrounds the Principality of Monaco. The department's inhabitants are called Maralpins (masculine) or Maralpines (feminine); its flag and arms are those of the City of Nice. In terms of politics, Alpes-Maritimes is one of France's most right-wing departments, as the majority led by The Republicans in the departmental council holds all but two of the 54 seats following the 2021 election.

Gilette (French pronunciation: [ʒilɛt]; Occitan: Gileta; Italian: Giletta) is a commune in the Alpes-Maritimes department in southeastern France.

The Vésubie is a river in the southeast of France. It is a left tributary of the Var in the Maritime Alps. It is 45.9 km (28.5 mi) long. Its drainage basin is 392 km2 (151 sq mi). The source is in the Mercantour National Park near the border with Italy. The river flows through the town of Saint-Martin-Vésubie, a major center for hiking. It flows into the Var near Levens. One of its tributaries is the Gordolasque.

Bonson (French pronunciation: [bɔ̃sɔ̃]; Italian: Bonsone) is a commune in the Alpes-Maritimes department in southeastern France.

The Bouyon is a river that flows through the Alpes-Maritimes department of southeastern France. It is 15.4 km (9.6 mi) long. It flows into the river Estéron near the village Bouyon.

Castagniers Abbey (French: Abbaye Notre-Dame de la Paix de Castagniers) is a Cistercian nunnery, in Castagniers, 12 km from Nice in the Alpes-Maritimes departement in southwestern France. In 1865, Dom Marie-Bernard Barnouin, restorer of Sénanque Abbey, founded a Cistercian community for women in Mane in the diocese of Digne, and in 1869, another in Reillanne, the Abbaye de Notre-Dame des Prés. In 1872 the two communities were united in Reillanne. In 1930 the community left Reillanne to settle in Castagniers. The community was elevated to the rank of an abbey in 1962. The first abbess, Mother Marguerite de la Trinité, saw to it that the place became a chocolate factory, which is still working today. The nuns have a guest house and they welcome guests wishing to make a retreat.

Levens (French pronunciation: [ləvɛ̃s]; Italian: Levenzo) is a commune in the Alpes-Maritimes département in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. Its inhabitants are called Levensans (or Levensois).
