Vaughan is a locality in the Shire of Mount Alexander in the state of Victoria, Australia south of Castlemaine and east of Guildford. Vaughan is situated at the confluence of Fryer's Creek and the Loddon River which has the Lawson spring, a drinkable mineral water spring. The spring location is sometimes referred to as Vaughan Spring or Vaughan Springs. Vaughan Springs was previously the location of a large gold rush township called The Junction. The population of Vaughan at the 2016 Census was 64.Vaughan Post Office first opened on 15 March 1859 and closed in 1922. It opened again in 1947 and closed in 1968. The nearest post office is now at Guildford. The nearest business is the Guildford general store, and the Guildford Hotel.

Fryerstown is a town in the Goldfields region of Victoria, Australia. At the 2016 census, Fryerstown and the surrounding area had a population of 228, which peaked at 15,000 during the Victorian gold rush. The Post Office opened on 19 April 1854 as Fryer's Creek, was renamed Fryerstown in 1856, and closed in 1975. Fryerstown Court House opened in 1879 and closed in 1930.Fryerstown formerly had a police station, court, churches, school, hotels and various stores. All are now closed and the nearest general store, church or petrol station is now at Chewton, Campbells Creek or Castlemaine. There is a public hall. Gardenvale Primary School's school camp used to be located in Fryerstown.

The Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park is near the town of Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia. The park protects a nationally significant historic cultural landscape of heritage value and relics of the Victorian gold rush. The Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park was added to the Victorian Heritage Register in December 2003. It is the largest non-indigenous protected cultural landscape in Australia. In January 2005 the park was added to the Australian National Heritage List recognizing its outstanding heritage value and importance in the course of Australia’s migration history.

Set at the back of Campbells Creek, the trees here were originally selected by Baron Von Mueller, the famed botanist who designed the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens. This group of local volunteers works to manage and maintain the reserve. The Committee of Management members are all actively involved with the various sporting groups that use the club-rooms, ground and trotting track and are always striving to bring out the best in their facility. The Recreation Reserve hosts a range of events each year, including the KR Don Christmas party, Castlemaine Lawn Mower Racing and local school athletic days. Campbells Creek is home to the historical Castlemaine Cemetery, which was moved from Templeton Street, Castlemaine, to Cemetery Road, Campbells Creek, in 1853. Most of the burials in the original cemetery were re-interred and the new cemetery was still called Castlemaine Cemetery. The first burial noted in the new cemetery register was on 3 March 1853. Since then, there have been approximately 20,500 burials registered. The cemetery features a soldiers' memorial and an historic two-tiered Chinese funeral burner, which served as a safe place for the ritualized burning of spiritual tributes.The Sexton's office was built in 1867 and was known then as "The Lodge". It houses the original 1875 cemetery map. The cemetery trust has been managed by a group of volunteers appointed by the Government since 1859, an arrangement that continues to this day. The cemetery is on the Victorian Heritage Register as the site is of historical, social, architectural, and aesthetic significance to Victoria. Many of the pioneers of Castlemaine are buried in the cemetery including Fanny Finch, the first woman to vote in an Australian election, 50 years before it was legal for women to vote. Also Sir Harry Sutherland Wightman Lawson (1875–1952), 27th Premier of Victoria, is buried here.

HM Prison Loddon is an Australian low-medium security prison, located in Central Victoria, Australia, approximately four kilometres from the centre of Castlemaine and 128 km north-west of Melbourne. Loddon is a campus style prison, within a secure perimeter, providing accommodation for 468 medium security prisoners. The landscaped grounds, modern buildings and wide range of programs and activities provide an environment and facilities which, as closely as possible, resembles those available in the general community.In July 2014 Loddon prison expanded adding a new unit Middleton which is a restricted-minimum rated men's prison. Prisoners at Middleton live in self-catered, cottage style accommodation where they are responsible for cooking their own meals. Middleton has a capacity of 248.

Guildford is a small settlement situated on the Loddon River, 124 kilometres (77 mi) north-west of Melbourne, in Victoria, Australia. It is located on the Midland Highway between Daylesford and Castlemaine. The population recorded at the 2016 census was 333.Facilities in the town include a post office (in a building dating from 1901), hotel, community hall, a cricket ground and a general store.It is thought that the town was named after Guildford in England.

North Central Province was an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Council (Australia). It was created in the redistribution of provinces in 1882 when the Central and Eastern Provinces were abolished. The new North Central Province, South Yarra, North Yarra, South Eastern and Melbourne Provinces were then created.North Central Province was created and defined by the Legislative Council Act 1881 (taking effect from the 1882 elections) as consisting of the following divisions: McIvor, Heathcote, Pyalong, Kyneton, Glenlyon, Metcalfe, Strathfieldsaye, Mount Alexander, Mount Franklin, Newstead, Maldon, Castlemaine, Chewton and Daylesford.North Central Province was abolished in 1904, with the creation of the new East Yarra, Melbourne East, Melbourne North, Melbourne South and Melbourne West Provinces .

Drummond North is a locality in the Shire of Hepburn, Victoria, Australia. The locality is mainly a wine-growing and livestock region. Back Creek, a tributary of the Coliban River, runs through the locality, creating a 30-degree hill. Native wildlife includes kangaroos which are plentiful in number. Drummond North Post Office opened on 1 April 1885 and closed in 1956. At the 2016 census, Drummond North had a population of 187.

Yapeen is a town in central Victoria, Australia. The locality is in the Shire of Mount Alexander local government area and on the Midland Highway, 131 kilometres (81 mi) north west of the state capital, Melbourne and 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) south of Castlemaine. At the 2021 census, Yapeen had a population of 272.The locality was originally part of the Strathloddon pastoral run which was held by several notable people including Frederick Taylor. Gold was discovered in the area in 1852 and miners flocked to what was known as the "Pennyweight Flat diggings". The settlement was named "Yapeen" in 1861, for an Aboriginal word meaning "green hill" or "valley". Chinese miners were prominent in the area and some later established market gardens.A school was first established in Yapeen in 1858 with a dedicated school building constructed in 1877. The school closed in 2010.
