Akatsuchiyama Kofun (赤土山古墳) is a Kofun period keyhole-shaped burial mound, located in the Ichinomoto-cho neighborhood of the city of Tenri, Nara in the Kansai region of Japan. The tumulus was designated a National Historic Site of Japan in 1992. It is one of the tumuli that make up the Tōdaijiyama Kofun Group, which consists of five keyhole-shaped tombs and 40 to 50 circular and square tombs that date mainly from the early to middle Kofun period.

It was founded as part of the secular mission of Tenrikyo. In a nation where medical care is often highly specialized and cross-specialist treatment can be difficult, Tenri Hospital founded and developed the first department of general medicine. It is part of Tenrikyo's oyasato-yakata complex surrounding the Jiba, and it is built in the same syncretic style as the rest of the complex.

This establishment is significant to followers because it is built around the Jiba, the spot where followers believe the god Tenri-O-no-Mikoto conceived humankind.

Enshō-ji (圓照寺 or 円照寺) is a Buddhist temple complex in Nara founded by Queen Bunchi, daughter of Emperor Go-Mizunoo, in 1656. Together with Chūgū-ji and Hokke-ji, it is considered one of the Three Yamato Monzeki (大和三門跡), or imperial temples, belonging to the Myōshin-ji school of Rinzai Zen. The temple served as model for Gesshū-ji (月修寺) in Yukio Mishima's Spring Snow and was used as one of the locations for the filming of its 2005 dramatization. The temple is also home to the head office of the ikebana school called Yamamura Go-ryū (山村御流). The temple is not open to the public.

As of 30 September 2024, the city had an estimated population of 60,890 in 29456 households, and a population density of 700 persons per km2. The total area of the city is 86.42 km2 (33.37 sq mi). The city is named after the Japanese new religion Tenrikyo, which has its headquarters in the city.

Tenri University (天理大学, Tenri Daigaku) is a Japanese private university in Tenri, Nara Prefecture, an independent part of the secular mission of the new religious movement Tenrikyo. It was established in February 1925 as the coeducational Tenri Foreign Language School (天理外国語専門学校, Tenri Gaikokugo Senmon Gakkō), enrolling 104 students, and was reorganised as a university in April 1949.

Isonokami Shrine (石上神宮, Isonokami-jingū, also Isonokami-futsu-no-mitama-jinja (石上布都御魂神社), Furu-ōmyojin (布留大明神) etc.) is a Shinto shrine located in the hills of Furu in Tenri, Nara Prefecture, Japan. It is one of the oldest extant Shinto shrines in Japan and has housed several significant artifacts. Isonokami shrine was highly regarded in the ancient era, and frequented by many members of the Imperial Family. It played a pivotal role in Japan's early history, especially during the 3rd to 5th centuries. The shrine is at the northern end of the Yamanobe no michi, the oldest road in Japan.
