Grou-Jirnsum is a railway station located between Grou and Jirnsum, Netherlands. Opened on 1 September 1868, it is located on the Arnhem–Leeuwarden railway. Service are operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen. Originally named Grouw-Irnsum, it was renamed Grou-Jirnsum on 30 May 1999.

While the rest of the Netherlands celebrates Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas) on December 5, Grou instead celebrates a unique local variation of this children's holiday known as Sint-Piter on February 21. In local lore Sint Piter is a distinct character separate from Saint Nicholas, and was historically known as the patron saint for local fishermen.A nickname for the town is Tsiisferdûnsers, meaning cheese dancers, from a story where a fiddler was paid with cheese at a village dance.

Boarnsterhim (West Frisian pronunciation; Dutch: Boornsterhem [ˈboːr(ə)nstərˌɦɛm] (listen)) was a municipality in the northern Netherlands. On 1 January 2014, the municipality was dissolved and its territory was split between four other municipalities: De Friese Meren, which was established that day, Leeuwarden, Heerenveen and Súdwest-Fryslân.

The Protestant church of Grou or Saint Peter's church is a religious building in Grou, Netherlands, one of the many medieval churches in Friesland. The Romanesque church was built in the first half of the 13th century out of tuffstone. Already in the 13th century the church was heightened. In the 15th century the church was lengthened to the west and heightened for the second time with Brick. The current tower dates from the early 15th century.The monumental Pipe organ was built in 1853 by L. van Dam & Zn. from Leeuwarden. The church is located on the Kerkstraat 4 and was once a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Peter but became a Protestant church after the Protestant reformation. It is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 22894 and is rated with a very high historical value.

West Frisia (Latin: Frisia Occidentalis) is a term that, when used in an international context, refers to the traditionally Frisian areas that are located west of the Dollart (i.e. in the present-day Netherlands). The area of the province was once part of the ancient, larger region of Frisia. The land is mostly made up of grassland and it has numerous lakes. The official languages of Friesland are West Frisian and Dutch. It was named after the region of Frisia.
