Coudekerque-Village

The Communauté de communes des Hauts de Flandre is a communauté de communes in the Nord département and in the Hauts-de-France région of France. It was formed on 1 January 2014 by the merger of the former Communauté de communes de la Colme, Communauté de communes du canton de Bergues, Communauté de communes de Flandre and the Communauté de communes de l'Yser. Its seat is in Bergues. Its area is 448.5 km2, and its population was 53,584 in 2018.

Bergues (French pronunciation: [bɛʁɡ]; Dutch: Sint-Winoksbergen; West Flemish: Bergn) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. It is situated 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) to the south of Dunkirk and 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from the Belgian border. Locally it is referred to as "the other Bruges in Flanders". Bergues is a setting for the 2008 movie Welcome to the Sticks (Original French title: Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis).

Bierne (French pronunciation: [bjɛʁn]; French Flemish: Bieren) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France.

Téteghem-Coudekerque-Village (French pronunciation: [tetɡɛm kudkɛʁk vilaʒ]; Dutch: Tetegem-Koudekerke-Dorp; West Flemish: Tetegem-Koukerke) is a commune in the Nord department of northern France. The municipality was established on 1 January 2016 and consists of the former communes of Téteghem and Coudekerque-Village.

The Abbey of Saint Winnoc (French: Abbaye de Saint-Winoc) is a former monastery in Bergues, in the department of Nord in northern France. It traces its origins to the 7th century, and from the early 11th century became a Benedictine abbey and grew in wealth. The monastery was damaged by fire twice, and heavily rebuilt in the 18th century. Following the French Revolution, the abbey was disbanded, sold and most of the buildings dismantled. Only the former gate and two towers remain, as they were used as navigational aids.

Téteghem (French pronunciation: [tetɡɛm]; Dutch and West Flemish: Tetegem) is a former commune in the Nord department, northern France. On 1 January 2016, it was merged into the new commune Téteghem-Coudekerque-Village.

The canton of Coudekerque-Branche is an administrative division of the Nord department, northern France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Coudekerque-Branche. It consists of the following communes:

Hoymille (French pronunciation: [wamil]; from Flemish; Hooimille in modern Dutch spelling) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. It is situated adjacent to the east of Bergues. The village hosts an annual carnival at the end February. The local church is St Gérard's.

Coudekerque-Branche (French pronunciation: [kudkɛʁk bʁɑ̃ʃ]; Dutch: Nieuw-Koudekerke, [ˈniu ˈkʌudəkɛrkə]; West Flemish: Nieuw-Koukerke; French Flemish: Nieuwe-Koudekerke; lit. 'New Cold Church') is a commune and town in the French department of Nord, Hauts-de-France, northern France. It is the largest suburb of Dunkirk, and is adjacent to it on the southeast. In 2018, Coudekerque-Branche had a population of 20,925. The commune has a land area of 9.14 km2 (3.53 sq mi).

Captain Thomas Frederick Le Mesurier DSC & Two Bars (6 February 1897 – 26 May 1918) was a British flying ace of the First World War credited with seven aerial victories. Le Mesurier was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) and Two Bars for his conspicuous service in bombing operations.

John De Camborne Paynter, (17 May 1898 – 6 June 1918) was a British flying ace of the First World War, credited with 10 aerial victories while flying with the Royal Naval Air Service. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his valour before being killed in a bombing raid.

The Dunkirk Memorial is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission memorial to the missing that commemorates 4,505 missing dead of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF), most of whom fell prior to and during the Battle of Dunkirk in 1939 and 1940, in the fall of France during the Second World War. Located in the town cemetery of Dunkirk, France, the design by Commission architect Philip Hepworth features memorial panels, a shrine in the form of a shelter, and an engraved glass pane by John Hutton. Those commemorated include soldiers lost on ships sunk during the evacuation, as well as a recipient of the Victoria Cross. The memorial was completed some 17 years after the events it marks. It was unveiled by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother in 1957, in front of visiting dignitaries, and hundreds of veterans and relatives of those who died. Later commemorations held here include the 75th anniversary in 2015.
