Mascoma Valley Regional High School

The Northern Recreational Rail Trail, also known as the Northern Rail Trail, is a 58-mile (93 km) multi-use rail trail in western New Hampshire, USA, running from Lebanon to Boscawen. It uses the right-of-way of the Boston and Maine Railroad's former Northern Line, which was acquired by the State of New Hampshire in 1996. The trail is managed by the New Hampshire Bureau of Trails.

The Canaan train wreck was a railroad accident that occurred on September 15, 1907, near Canaan, New Hampshire. A northbound freight train and a southbound passenger train had a head-on collision, which resulted in 26 fatalities. The official investigation attributed the incident to an error made by a train dispatcher of the Boston and Maine Railroad. It remains the train wreck with the largest loss of life in New Hampshire history.

The Indian River is a 12.8-mile-long (20.6 km) river in western New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Mascoma River, which in turn flows to the Connecticut River and ultimately Long Island Sound. The Indian River rises in the southern corner of the town of Dorchester and flows south in a broad valley to the west of Mount Cardigan. At the town center of Canaan, the river turns west and shortly ends at the Mascoma River. For its south-flowing portion, the Indian River is followed by New Hampshire Route 118. From Canaan to the Mascoma River, U.S. Route 4 is close by.

The Hewitt House is a historic house on United States Route 4 in Enfield, New Hampshire. Built in 1871, it is a particularly fine example of late Italianate architecture, built for the manager of local woolen mills. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, and included in the Enfield Village Historic District in 2010.

Mascoma State Forest is an area of forested land in Canaan in Grafton County, New Hampshire, on the west side of the Mascoma River. As of 2007, the tract covers 216 acres (87 ha). The forest borders the 900-acre Bear Pond Natural Area. Mascoma State Forest is managed by the state of New Hampshire Division of Forests and Lands.

Enfield is a town in Grafton County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 4,465 at the 2020 census. The town includes the villages of Enfield, Enfield Center, Upper Shaker Village, Lower Shaker Village, Lockehaven, and Montcalm. Enfield village, the primary settlement in town, where 1,571 people resided at the 2020 census, is defined as the Enfield census-designated place (CDP), centered on U.S. Route 4 and the inlet of the Mascoma River into Mascoma Lake.

Mascoma Lake is a 1,158-acre (469 ha) lake in western New Hampshire, United States. Most of the lake is within the town of Enfield, while a small portion is within the city of Lebanon, where it drains into the Mascoma River, a tributary of the Connecticut River. The lake's general trend is from southeast to northwest, with the outlet at the northwestern end. The Mascoma River enters the lake near its halfway point, from the northeastern side, at the town center of Enfield. The southeastern end of the lake is fed by the Knox River. The lake's average depth is 30 feet (9.1 m) with a maximum depth of 68 feet (21 m).The lake freezes during winter and is stable enough to be walked upon. Ice fishing is popular on the lake. The lake is stocked with trout by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. Mascoma Lake often has a spring cyanobacteria bloom. Recent studies suggest that significant exposure to high levels of cyanobacteria producing toxins such as BMAA can cause amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). People living within half a mile of cyanobacterially contaminated lakes have had a 2.3 times greater risk of developing ALS than the rest of the population; people around Lake Mascoma had an up to 25 times greater risk of ALS than the expected incidence.In June 2009 the State of New Hampshire discouraged people from recreation in some areas of the lake because of the bloom. Aside from the bloom, the lake is generally considered safe for swimming, and the town of Enfield maintains a public beach with a lifeguard on the lake. NASA and its partners have used the frozen lake to test a robotic rover as a simulation of Antarctica.Mascoma Lake is home to the Dartmouth College sailing team. A community sailing club called the Mascoma Sailing Club also uses the lake.

Crystal Lake is a 401-acre (1.6 km2) water body located in Grafton County in western New Hampshire, United States, in the town of Enfield. Crystal Lake is part of the Mascoma River watershed. The lake contains one small island: Oliver Island. The lake is classified as a cold- and warmwater fishery, with observed species including rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, chain pickerel, horned pout, black crappie, and rock bass.The lake is one of eight in New Hampshire which historically had a naturally occurring native lake trout population. These fish have since been extirpated from the lake.

The Knox River is a 2.5-mile-long (4.0 km) river in western New Hampshire in the United States. The river is an inlet of Mascoma Lake, which drains by the Mascoma River to the Connecticut River and ultimately Long Island Sound. The Knox River lies entirely in the town of Enfield. It begins at the village of Fish Market as the outlet of George Pond and flows northwest through Enfield Center to the southeastern end of Mascoma Lake. The river is paralleled for its entire length by New Hampshire Route 4A.
