It is located in the Landes department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, southwestern France. Created in 1993, its seat is in Dax. Its area is 344.3 km2. Its population was 55,657 in 2019, of which 20,843 in Dax proper.

Dax station is a railway station serving the town Dax, Landes department, southwestern France. It is situated on the Bordeaux–Irun railway and the Puyoô–Dax railway. The station is served by high speed trains to Paris, Hendaye and Tarbes, and regional trains towards Bordeaux, Bayonne and Pau.

Stade Maurice Boyau is a multi-use stadium in Dax, France. It is currently used mostly for rugby union matches and is the home stadium of US Dax. Opened in 1958, it is named for World War I fighter ace and pre-war French international rugby player Maurice Boyau. The stadium is officially able to hold 7,262 people since the renovation held in 2019. It was previously officially able to hold 16,170 people.

It was suppressed after the French Revolution, by the Concordat of 1801 between First Consul Napoleon Bonaparte and Pope Pius VII. Its territory now belongs to the Diocese of Aire and Diocese of Bayonne.

It is known as a spa destination, specialising in mud treatment for rheumatism and similar ailments. Dax is also known for its bullfighting culture, especially during the August ferias, one of the most crowded festival events in France with 800,000 people attending over five days. It is also a market town, former bishopric and busy local centre, especially for the Chalosse area.
