Rochefort Brewery

The Trappist Abbey of Rochefort or Abbey of Notre-Dame de Saint-Rémy, which belongs to the Cistercians of Strict Observance, is located in Rochefort in the province of Namur (Wallonia, Belgium). The abbey is famous for its spiritual life and its brewery, which is one of few Trappist beer breweries in the world. Life in the abbey is characterised by prayer, reading and manual work, the three basic elements of Trappist life. The motto of the abbey is Curvata Resurgo.

Rochefort (French pronunciation: [ʁɔʃ.fɔʁ] ; Walloon: Rotchfoirt) is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Namur, Belgium, close to the Ardennes. On 1 January 2006, Rochefort had a total population of 12,038. The total area is 165.27 km² which gives a population density of 73 inhabitants per km². It was a resort in the 19th century. The municipality consists of the following districts: Ave-et-Auffe, Buissonville, Éprave, Han-sur-Lesse, Jemelle, Lavaux-Sainte-Anne, Lessive, Mont-Gauthier, Rochefort, Villers-sur-Lesse, and Wavreille. Its ancient position at the crossroads where the route to Saint-Hubert crossed that from Liège to Bouillon required fortifying: the ruins of the old castle, which gave the place its name and a title to a long line of counts who had the right of coining their own money, still exist. This castle underwent many sieges and suffered at the hands of Marshal de Châtillon (1636). Near Rochefort are the red marble quarries of St. Remy, and Rochefort Abbey, a Trappist monastery, which operates the Rochefort Brewery, known for brewing dark and sweet beers, especially the Rochefort 10, a deep dark-brown rich and fruity beer. The town was the site of the Battle of Bure during the Second World War.

The Église Notre-Dame de la Visitation de Rochefort (Church of the Visitation of the Holy Virgin, or Church of Our Lady of the Visitation), is a religious building in the Belgian city of Rochefort and the seat of a deanery.

Han-sur-Lesse (French pronunciation: [ɑ̃syʁˈlɛs]; Walloon: Han-so-Lesse) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Rochefort, located in the province of Namur, Belgium. Han-sur-Lesse was called Ham from 1139, Ham Han Sur Lesche, from 1266, Han Sur Lece from 1465 and Ham sur lez from 1528, by which time it had 14 families. The village then declined, with plague, epidemics and Franco-Spanish wars, but by 1766, there were 62 villagers. In 2021 the population was about 1,000. The place is famous for the Grottes de Han-sur-Lesse, a cave complex carved under a hill by the river Lesse, which tourists reach via a preserved remnant of the country's vicinal tramway system. The metre gauge line opened in 1906 as a branch off the Rochefort-Han-sur-Lesse-Wellin line, which was open from 1904 to 1957. Between 1988 and 1992 the village tram terminus was moved from a loop around the church of Saint-Hubert de Han-sur-Lesse to a loop on the other side of Rue Joseph Lamotte. The church of Saint-Hubert, in the centre of the village, was rebuilt in 1905 in a Gothic revival style by Clément Léonard and Hubert Froment.

The Caves of Han-sur-Lesse (in French: Grottes de Han-sur-Lesse or simply Grottes de Han) refers to a natural complex of caves in Belgium. A major Belgian tourist attraction (around 250-300,000 visitors per year), the caves are located in Wallonia, on the outskirts of the village of Han-sur-Lesse. The caves were formed as the result of an underground erosion of a limestone hill by the river Lesse. For most of its length a meandering river, it abruptly plunges into a sinkhole not far from Han-sur-Lesse. This hole is known as the gouffre de Belvaux (English: the Belvaux abyss), where it forces its way under the hill over a distance of over 1 kilometer (1⁄2 mi) as the crow flies before streaming through the cave complex known as the Grottes de Han.

The Lomme, Lhomme or L'Homme is a river in the Ardennes, in the Walloon region of Belgium. It is a right tributary to the river Lesse, itself a right tributary of the river Meuse.

Haversin Castle (French: Château de Haversin) is a 17th-century château in the hamlet of Haversin, part of the village of Serinchamps in the municipality of Ciney, province of Namur, Wallonia, Belgium.

The N4 road in Belgium is a highway that runs from Brussels to Luxembourg. It starts as chaussée de Wavre at Porte de Namur on the Brussels inner ring and runs south east through Wavre and Namur, Marche-en-Famenne, Bastogne, Martelange and Arlon before terminating as route de Luxembourg at the Luxembourg border. On its route is crosses the Meuse and Lessive Rivers and the Belgian Ardennes. Before the development of motorways the N4 was a main artery for traffic going south east from Brussels and it was dotted with many friteries, cafes and petrol stations. From the 1960s to the end of the 1980s, it has been superseded by the completion of the A4 motorway which runs from Delta in Brussels down past Arlon where shortly after it enters Luxembourg where it becomes part of the Luxembourg by-pass system until it reaches the south of the city where it turns south continuing down to Thionville and Metz in France and onwards. By diverting the traffic away from the N4 the motorway has caused the closure of most of these traditional Belgian friteries. Outside of major towns the N4 mostly consists of dual carriageway with the opposing lanes separated by a central reservation or concrete blocks, but certain sections are still without any form of physical separation and have been the scene of many fatal accidents. The N4 still offers a more pleasurable and scenic route to the south of Belgium for the less pressed driver and for bicyclists. The end sections remain busy routes during the rush hour due to the high number of commuters travelling to and from Brussels and Luxembourg from residential communities all over the area. Stretches of the road continue to be renovated. The N4 crosses or borders 29 municipalities in total. 4 of them in the Brussels Capital Region, 2 in Flemish Brabant, 5 in Walloon Brabant, 7 in Namur and 11 in Luxembourg. Chevetogne Abbey (French: Abbaye de Chevetogne), also known as the Monastery of the Holy Cross, is a Catholic Benedictine monastery dedicated to Christian unity located in the Belgian village of Chevetogne in the municipality of Ciney, province of Namur, halfway between Brussels and Luxembourg. Currently, the monastery has 27 monks.

The Bell and Carillon Museum (French: Musée de la Cloche et du Carillon; Dutch: Klokken- en Beiaardmuseum) was a museum from 1992 to 2013 in Tellin in the Belgian Ardennes. The museum was established in a bell foundry that was in service between 1830 and 1970. Beside bells and carillons it showed other objects, like weather-vanes that had been on church towers. There was also a documentary film shown on the process of molding. The exploitation of the museum cost the municipality 35,000 euro on a yearly base. As a result it was decided on 28 February 2013 to close the museum at the end of the year. The year after the museum was obtained by the artisan and clock renovator Olivier Baudri that based its atelier there, with the goal to reopen the museum in the future. It has since been reopened and usually is open 3 days a week (Wed, Fri, Sat) for a total of 13 hours. It is closed during Winter (Mid November to March)

Tellin (French pronunciation: [tɛlɛ̃]; Walloon: Telin) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Luxembourg, Belgium, in the Ardennes. On 1 January 2007 the municipality, which covers 56.64 km2, had 2,386 inhabitants, giving a population density of 42.1 inhabitants per km2. The municipality consists of the following districts: Bure, Grupont, Resteigne, and Tellin.

Aye (Walloon: Åye) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Marche-en-Famenne, located in the province of Luxembourg, Belgium. The inhabitants of Aye are called the "Godis" in the Walloon language.
