Hassall

Hassall Hall is a former manor house to the east of the village of Hassall, Cheshire, England. The house dates from the 17th century, and was re-fronted in the 19th century. It has since been divided into two houses. It is constructed in rendered brick and has a slate roof. The house has an H-plan. The entrance front is symmetrical, in two storeys, with five bays. The central three bays are recessed and the middle bay contains a doorway. The doorway is flanked by Tuscan pillars, and above the door is an open pediment enclosing a fanlight. The houses are recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.

Hassall Green is a village in the civil parish of Betchton in the unitary authority of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. It is traversed by the Trent & Mersey Canal.

Hassall Green railway station is a disused railway station in Cheshire, England. The station was situated on the North Staffordshire Railway (NSR) branch line to Sandbach from Harecastle. The line opened in 1852 to serve the salt and chemical works in the Sandbach area and passenger services were a very late addition, not being introduced until 1893, 41 years after the opening of the line.The station at Hassall Green was a later addition to the passenger service. Two intermediate stations on the line, Wheelock & Sandbach and Lawton opened in 1893 but Hassall Green was only opened in 1905. The station marked the end point of a single track section from Lawton and towards Sandbach the line was double track.Increasing competition from bus services led to the station and line being closed for passenger services on 28 July 1930. Parcels traffic continued to be handled at the station until 1947 when the station closed completely.Freight traffic continued over the line until 1964 and the line was finally closed and lifted in 1971. The signalbox and crossing gates are preserved and have since been relocated to Hadlow Road railway station in Willaston, Wirral, formally part of the Hooton and West Kirby branch line.

According to the 2001 census it had a population of 620, increasing to 677 at the 2011 Census. The parish is immediately to the east of Sandbach, and includes Betchton Heath, Malkin's Bank and Hassall Green. The parish elects 10 councillors to the parish council.

Wheelock & Sandbach railway station was built by the North Staffordshire Railway (NSR) to serve the Cheshire village of Wheelock. Originally conceived as a line between Stoke-upon-Trent and Liverpool (an idea abandoned as part of an agreement with the Grand Junction Railway in 1845), the short (6.5 miles (10.5 km)) line from Lawton Junction to Ettiley Heath was opened as a goods traffic only line in 1852. Subsequently, the line was extended to join with the London and North Western Railway at Sandbach in 1866. Towards the end of the 19th century the NSR decided to introduce a passenger service on the line and Sandbach (Wheelock) railway station was opened in July 1893 as the terminus of the new service from Harecastle.The passenger service was not large and there were only three trains each way per day. Extra services were provided on Thursday (market day in Sandbach) and Saturday, but there was no Sunday service. By August 1927, the passenger service had been reduced to services only Thursday and Saturday and in June 1930, the London, Midland and Scottish Railway decided to withdraw the passenger service from 28 July 1930.The station buildings still survive in use as a tyre-fitting business and the trackbed forms part of National Cycle Network route 5.
