Boeschepe

Berthen (French pronunciation: [bɛʁtɛn]; in Dutch: Berten), located at the foot of Mont des Cats, is a commune in the Nord department in northern France.It is 2 km (1.2 mi) from the Belgian border, and 5 km (3.1 mi) north of Bailleul.

Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) burial ground for the dead of the First World War in the Ypres Salient on the Western Front. After Tyne Cot, it is the second largest cemetery for Commonwealth forces in Belgium. Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery is located near Poperinge in the province of West Flanders. Most of those buried in the cemetery are war casualties who had been wounded near Ypres and later died in the four large Allied casualty clearing stations located in this area.

Mont des Cats is a small hill (alt. 164m) near the town of Godewaersvelde, France. Located in the Nord department, its Flemish name is Katsberg. The hill is seat of the Mont des Cats abbey, famous for its cheese produced by monks since 1890. Atop the hill rests an antenna that reaches a height of 364m and transmits both television and radio signals. It transmits FM radio signals at 500 W and has three ultra-high frequency 80 kW transmitters for TV broadcasting. The antenna provides radio and television for part of the Nord Pas de Calais digital television (DTT). The traditional feast of Saint-Hubert is held atop this hill on the third Sunday in October.

Abele (also spelled Abeele) is a small village or hamlet in the city of Poperinge, in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The village is located on the territory of Poperinge proper and its "deelgemeente" Watou, but is also partly located on French territory. Abele has about 600 inhabitants, of whom about 100 are French. The main street coincides with the border between Belgium and France, so houses located on different sides of the street are located in a different country. The church of Abele is located on French territory, but the services are organized by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bruges. The Kerkfabriek of Watou and the local authorities of Boeschepe are responsible for its maintenance. Abele used to be an import border crossing. In 1713, a tollhouse was set up, but it disappeared during the French Revolution. The old Belgian customs office was renovated and now serves as a retro-café with a small exhibition. Abeele Aerodrome Military Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery is outside the village, on the site of a World War I military airfield.

Mont Noir (Zwarte Berg in Dutch) is a 152 metres (499 ft) high hill located on the French-Belgian border, a few kilometres from Bailleul. It takes its name from the presence of a high concentration of black pine woodland, which covers the hillside.

Méteren (French pronunciation: [metʁɛn]; from Flemish; Meteren in modern Dutch spelling) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. In October 1914, the British army passed through Meteren during the Race to the Sea, and the future Field-Marshal Montgomery of Alamein received a DSO at the rank of Lieutenant.

Reningelst is a rural village in the Belgian province of West Flanders, and a "deelgemeente" of the municipality Poperinge. The village has about 1405 inhabitants. The deelgemeente of De Klijte used to be a part of Reningelst (then independent, now part of Heuvelland). De Klijte split from Reningelst in 1976 and is now part of the Heuvelland municipality.

Poperinge (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈpoːpəˌrɪŋə] ; French: Poperinghe, Poperingue [pɔpʁɛ̃ɡ]; West Flemish: Poperienge) is a city and municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders, Flemish Region, and has a history going back to medieval times. The municipality comprises the town of Poperinge proper and surrounding villages. The area is famous for its hops and lace.

Bertenacre Military Cemetery is a British military cemetery with casualties from both world wars, located in the French town of Flêtre in the Nord department in northern France. The cemetery is located about three kilometers north of Flêtre, a few hundred meters south of the road from Eecke to Godewaersvelde, near the hamlet Berthenaere. There are 147 casualties commemorated: 112 from the First World War and 35 from the Second World War. The cemetery is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The site has an area of 716 sqm. A Cross of Sacrifice stands in front. The cemetery was begun by French units and named "Cimetière du Calvaire de Bertenaere" after a nearby calvary cross. In the summer of 1918 a British division also buried its dead here. After the war, 115 French and two German graves were evacuated and transferred elsewhere. The cemetery was also extended with British graves that were transferred from Royal West Surrey Cemetery in Flêtre.In the Second World War there were another 35 British burials here.
