Shinobazu Pond

Ueno Park (上野公園, Ueno Kōen) is a spacious public park in the Ueno district of Taitō, Tokyo, Japan. The park was established in 1873 on lands formerly belonging to the temple of Kan'ei-ji. Amongst the country's first public parks, it was founded following the western example as part of the borrowing and assimilation of international practices that characterizes the early Meiji period. The home of a number of major museums, Ueno Park is also celebrated in spring for its cherry blossoms and hanami. In recent times the park and its attractions have drawn over ten million visitors a year, making it Japan's most popular city park.

Yokoyama Taikan Memorial Hall (横山大観記念館, Yokoyama Taikan Kinenkan) is located in the former residence of Nihonga artist Yokoyama Taikan, overlooking Shinobazu Pond in Taitō, Tokyo, Japan. It was opened in 1976 and is operated by a foundation directed by his descendants.

Hotel Sofitel Tokyo (ホテルソフィテル東京) was a hotel high-rise building (106.07 m, 3 underground storeys) in Taito-ku, Tokyo (1-48, 2 Ikenohata, Taito-ku, Tokyo, Japan). It was established in 1994 as Hotel Cosima with 71 rooms on 26 cantilever floors: in 1999 it was purchased by Accor Group. After a brief refurbishment (with the number of rooms increased to 83) it was reopened as 4-star hotel in September 2000, but was soon closed in December 2006 and was demolished between February 2007 and May 2008. Hotel Sofitel was a late work of Japanese architect Kiyonori Kikutake (then 66 years old when the building was conceived), best known for his own pre-metabolist house (Sky House) and the Edo-Tokyo Museum (1993). The Hotel Sofitel building resembled some metabolist ideas (as Joint Core, capsules, modularity and the theoretical possibility of replacement of its parts). The building shows a direct similarity to Kikutake's earlier theoretical project "Tree-shaped Community" from 1968. However, this project consisted of a group of towers cross-shaped in the plan, and also shows a similarity to other metabolists projects such as the Nakagin Capsule Tower by Kisho Kurokawa and the Shizuoka Press and Broadcasting Tower by Kenzo Tange. It is said that the characteristic shape of the hotel building was inspired by the shapes of Japanese temples and pine trees. Despite some metabolist-like features the building itself cannot be seen as representative of the metabolist movement as it was designed long after the slow breakup of the metabolist groups in the late 1970s. The object referenced traditional Japanese architecture, which is characteristic of Kikutake's mature and late works (such as the Edo-Tokyo Museum, Izumo Grand Shrine Administration Building and the Toukouen Hotel).

Kyū-Iwasaki-tei Garden (旧岩崎邸庭園, Kyū-Iwasaki-tei teien, Gardens of Old Iwasaki Mansion) is located in Taitō, Tokyo. It is the former estate of the Iwasaki clan who were the founders of Mitsubishi. The premises have three buildings: a Western-style house designed by British architect Josiah Conder, a Japanese house and a billiard house, and cover an area of about 17,000 square metres.

The Ueno Zoo Monorail Line (東京都交通局上野懸垂線, Tōkyō-to Kōtsū-kyoku Ueno Kensui-sen) is a 0.3 km (0.19 mi) long suspended railway operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation (Toei). It lies within the Ueno Zoo in Taitō, Tokyo, Japan. The monorail is similar to the Wuppertal Schwebebahn, but has rubber tires rather than steel wheels. Many of the parts manufactured for the monorail were off-the-shelf. The first monorail in the nation (and the first zoo monorail in the world), it has two stations, single track, and operates at 600 V DC. The line began operating on December 17, 1957, was suspended during 2001–2002, and has been suspended since October 31, 2019, with the operator citing the high costs of replacing the aging trains. Being located inside the zoo, it only operated on days when the zoo was open, and between 9:40 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., with departures scheduled every seven minutes. The fare for the 90-second trip was 150 yen.

Yushima Station (湯島駅, Yushima eki) is a subway station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line in the Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, Japan, operated by the Tokyo subway operator Tokyo Metro.

Keisei Ueno Station (京成上野駅, Keisei-Ueno-eki) is a railway station in Taitō, Tokyo, Japan, operated by the private railway operator Keisei Electric Railway. It is the terminus of the Keisei Main Line and is a short distance from JR Ueno Station.

Yushima Tenman-gū (湯島天満宮) is a Shinto shrine located in the Bunkyō ward of Tokyo, Japan. Established in 458, it is now devoted to Tenjin, the kami of Learning. For this reason, it is also called Yushima Tenjin. It is located very close to Ueno Park, and not far from the University of Tokyo. It is a frequently sited by prospective students hoping to pass the entrance exams, particularly in April. At this time, the temple receives many offerings of ema, votive tablets to petition the kami for success.One of the most famous features of the shrine are the blossoms of his plum trees (ume) in the spring. In February and March, the annual festival Ume Matsuri is held, attracting many visitors.

Ueno Tōshō-gū (上野東照宮) is a Tōshō-gū Shinto shrine located in the Taitō ward of Tokyo, Japan. First established in 1627 by Tōdō Takatora and renovated in 1651 by Tokugawa Iemitsu, the shrine has remained mostly intact since that time, making it a great example of Shinto architecture in the Edo period. Several of those surviving structures have been designated Important Cultural Properties.Tōshō-gū shrines are characterized by enshrining Tokugawa Ieyasu with the name Tōshō Daigongen (東照大権現). Ueno Tōshō-gū also enshrines two other Tokugawa shōguns, Tokugawa Yoshimune and Tokugawa Yoshinobu. Located inside of Ueno Park, Ueno Tōshō-gū has become a popular attraction.

Ueno-hirokoji Station (上野広小路駅, Ueno-hirokōji-eki) is a subway station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, in Taitō, Tokyo, Japan, operated by the Tokyo subway operator Tokyo Metro. It is numbered "G-15".

The University of Tokyo Hospital (東京大学医学部附属病院, Tōkyō daigaku igakubu fuzoku byōin) is an academic health science centre and tertiary referral hospital located in Bunkyō, Tokyo, Japan. The hospital is part of the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Medicine. It is one of the country's fifteen core clinical research hospitals, which are hospitals that also serve as medical research centres with large government grants. It has consistently been ranked as the best hospital in the country in several hospital rankings. Newsweek's World's Best Hospitals 2023 ranks it 17th in the world, 2nd in Asia, and 1st in Japan. Notably, it serves as the primary hospital for the Imperial Family of Japan, with both the current emperor and the emperor emeritus having undergone major operations there.

The Ueno Royal Museum (上野の森美術館, Ueno-no-Mori Bijutsukan) opened in Ueno Park, Taitō, Tokyo, Japan, in 1972. Managed by the Japan Art Association and with a focus on contemporary art, exhibitions include the regular Ueno Royal Museum Grand Prize Exhibition and Japanese Nature Painting Exhibition (日本の自然を描く展), as well special exhibitions from overseas.
