The Canning River Regional Park is the largest of eight regional parks within the Perth metropolitan area. The park covers approximately 6 km (3.7 mi) on both sides of the Canning River between the bridges carrying Nicholson Road and Leach Highway over the Canning River. Canning River is a major tributary of the Swan River in south western Western Australia.

Lynwood is a small southeastern suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. Its local government area is the City of Canning.

Castledare Boys' Home was a residential college in Wilson, Western Australia owned and operated by the Congregation of Christian Brothers from March 1929 to 1983 and established for the treatment and training of intellectually handicapped children. A 1929 newspaper article announcing the opening described it as a "training school for sub-normal boys". It opened with ten boys and under the directorship of Brother G. Hyland. The state psychologist, Ethel Stoneham, travelled to Europe and the United States to study similar institutions and was influential in the design of the home. Later it had a more general educational and residential focus, accommodating boys from various backgrounds, including child migrants, wards of the state, and orphans. The site was previously a pastoral property called "Niana" built by the Fleming family between 1906 and 1908, and when taken over occupied 83 acres. It is on the banks of the Canning River and adjoins Canning River Regional Park. A Federation style homestead on the property is listed on the State Heritage Register.The first child migrants from the UK came to Castledare in the late 1930s. This ceased temporarily during World War II. Nuns were introduced in 1949, by which time there were 100 primary school children. The Mother of Perpetual Succour Chapel was constructed in 1957 and blessed and opened by Archbishop Redmond Prendiville. In 1977 the chapel became the parish church of Wilson. Castledare has a popular rideable miniature railway which is open to the public. It has operated since the early 1960s. In 1994, the Parliament of Western Australia was presented a petition with 30,000 signatures demanding an inquiry into the sexual and physical assault that took place in various institutions run by the Christian Brothers, including Castledare. Other institutions included in the petition were Bindoon, Clontarf and Tardun. In 1998 the site was redeveloped as an aged care facility and retirement village called Castledare Retirement Village and operated by Catholic Homes Incorporated.

Lynwood Senior High School is an independent public co-educational specialist high day school in the City of Canning, located in the Perth suburb of Parkwood, Western Australia. Established in 1974, the school caters for students from Year 7 to Year 12. The school specialises in sustainability education and a specialist soccer program. As well as preparing students for university, the school includes a comprehensive vocational education and training pathway for students in years 11 and 12.

Cannington is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. The district is based in the inner southern suburbs of Perth. Cannington is a safe Labor seat. Based on the results of the 2005 state election, the district was created with a Labor Party majority of 63.3% to 36.7% versus the Liberal Party.

Wilson is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Canning on the north bank of the Canning River. It is a fairly old suburb with parks and close proximity to prominent shopping centres in South Perth. It is favoured by Curtin University students, the reason being its convenient access to the university. Bus numbers 72 and 75 travel through this suburb. The suburb contains Castledare, Kent Street Weir, Canning River and Lo Quay River Cafe.

Westfield Carousel is an Australian shopping centre in the Perth suburb of Cannington. It is located approximately 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) from Perth's central business district on the Albany Highway and approximately 600 metres (2,000 ft) from Cannington railway station. Following a redevelopment in 2018, Westfield Carousel became the largest shopping centre in Western Australia.

Woodloes Homestead was built in 1871 by architect Francis Bird. The homestead is situated on the banks of the Canning River in Cannington. Bird was partner in the Mason-Bird Timber Company, cut timber in the Darling Range and transported it via a horse-drawn railway to Mason's Landing, near Woodloes Homestead. Woodloes Homestead was classified by the National Trust in 1988, nominated to the Register of The National Estate in 1991 and permanently added to Western Australian State Heritage register on 21 January 1997.

Cannington Greyhounds is a greyhound racing venue on Station Street and Grey Street near Albany Highway in Cannington, Western Australia. The venue is owned and operated by the Western Australian Greyhound Racing Association (WAGRA). Race meetings take place most Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights and some Sundays. Race distances are 275, 380, 520, 600, and 715 metres (902, 1,247, 1,706, 1,969, and 2,346 ft).

Al-Ameen College (formerly known as Langford Islamic College) is an independent Islamic co-educational primary and secondary day school, located in Langford, a southern suburb of Perth, Western Australia. The school opened in 2004 and as of 2022 has 1,100 students.Following a 2015 Australian Government audit of funding for Islamic schools, Al-Ameen College retained $4.9 million in government funding after changes were made to its governance structure.In 2021, the college changed its name to Al-Ameen College in preparation of opening a future campus outside of Langford.
