Gomersal is a town in Kirklees in West Yorkshire, England. It is south of Bradford, east of Cleckheaton and north of Heckmondwike. It is close to the River Spen and forms part of the Heavy Woollen District.

BBG Academy (formerly Birkenshaw Middle School) is a mixed secondary school located in Birkenshaw, West Yorkshire, England.Birkenshaw Middle School was a community school administered by Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council. The school educated pupils aged 9 to 13. A long campaign was established by parents to retain the school when the council announced plans to close it, which resulted in the school converting to academy status in 2012. The school (now named BBG Academy) then changed the age range of pupils to become an 11 to 16 secondary school. In March 2016 the school was inspected by Ofsted and achieved a "Good" in all areas

Spenborough was, from 1915 to 1974, a local government district in the administrative county of Yorkshire, West Riding, England. Spenborough was created as an urban district in 1915 by the merger of Cleckheaton, Gomersal and Liversedge urban districts. The amalgamation was carried out on the instigation of Cleckheaton Urban District Council, in order to resist plans by the County Borough of Bradford to annex the area. The name "Spenborough", after the River Spen, was also suggested by Cleckheaton UDC. The district was expanded in 1937 by taking in the abolished Birkenshaw and Hunsworth urban districts, as well as part of the parishes of Clifton and Hartshead from the Halifax Rural District. Attempts to incorporate neighbouring Heckmondwike which is considered to be in the Spen Valley area, were never successful. On 29 July 1955, it was granted a charter of incorporation creating it a municipal borough.In 1974, Spenborough was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972, with its area forming part of the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees, West Yorkshire. Today, Kirklees Council recognises the former Spenborough borough area, with neighbouring Heckmondwike, as the Spen Valley Locality in its structure.

Birkenshaw is a village in the borough of Kirklees in the county of West Yorkshire, England. It lies at the crossroads between the A58 Leeds to Halifax road and the A651 Bradford to Heckmondwike road. At the 2011 census, the village was located in the ward of Birstall and Birkenshaw, which had a population 16,298. The name of the village derives from Old English and means "Birch Wood". Birkenshaw forms part of the Heavy Woollen District. Birkenshaw is in the Bradford conurbation and the Bradford postcode area. Most landline telephones have the Bradford dialling code (01274), but some use the Leeds prefix (0113). It is the site of the headquarters of the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Oakwell Hall is an Elizabethan manor house in Birstall, West Yorkshire, England. The Grade I listed hall is set in period gardens surrounded by 110 acres (0.45 km2) of country park. The house was built for John Batt. A recarved stone dated 1583 probably indicates the date of construction. The estate had been purchased by Batt's Halifax-born father, a receiver of rents to the Savile family, who resided at Howley Hall in Batley. Oakwell Hall was immortalised in literature as "Fieldhead" by Charlotte Brontë, in her novel Shirley.It is used in many TV productions, most recently the ITV drama Victoria (UK TV series)

Littletown is one of the constituent settlements of the district of Liversedge, West Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, much of the town centre was demolished in the 1960s for road widening. Although local residents always refer to it as a town, its size and population are similar to that of a village. Although it is literally a little town the place name is reputedly named after a Mr Little.

Healds Hall is a house in Liversedge, Yorkshire, now a hotel. It is listed at Grade II on the English Heritage Register. It was built in 1764 and was a private residence for several notable people. In 1926 it became the headquarters and museum for the Spen Valley Literary and Scientific Society. It is now a hotel, restaurant and function venue.
