Praetorium Agrippinae was a Roman settlement in the province of Lower Germania, in the area of the Cananefates, located in modern-day Valkenburg, Netherlands. It was an army encampment (Lat.: castellum) on the Old Rhine (at the time the major branch of the river Rhine), on the northern border of the Roman Empire, the limes. Praetorium Agrippinae is mentioned on the Tabula Peutingeriana between the castella of Matilo in the east and Lugdunum Batavorum to the west.

Rijnsburg (Dutch: [ˈrɛinzbʏr(ə)x] (listen)) is a village in the eastern part of the municipality of Katwijk, in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The name means Rhine's Burg in Dutch.

Katwijk aan den Rijn (Katwijk on the Rhine) is a town in the municipality of Katwijk in the province of South Holland, in The Netherlands, with approximately 6020 inhabitants. Katwijk aan den Rijn lies between Katwijk aan Zee, Valkenburg and Rijnsburg. It actually forms a unit with all of these other centres.

Stoomtrein Katwijk Leiden (formerly Stoomtrein Valkenburgse Meer, abbreviated SVM), is a 700 mm (2 ft 3+9⁄16 in) narrow gauge heritage railway line around the Valkenburgse Meer in the south of Katwijk, Netherlands. Although the name translates as Steam Train Valkenburg Lake, technically actually trams are used for the tourist attraction. Carriages are mostly remakes of early-20th century tram carriages, built by the Nederlandse Smalspoor Stichting (Netherlands Narrow-gauge Foundation) in Katwijk.

Valkenburg Naval Air Base (Dutch: Vliegkamp Valkenburg) (IATA: LID, ICAO: EHVB) is a former air base located just south of Valkenburg, which is part of Katwijk and close to the city of Leiden, that was used by the Royal Netherlands Navy until 2006, being their base for the Lockheed P-3 Orion aircraft. The Orions were sold to Germany and Portugal, resulting in the closure of the air base. Though officially closed as an airport, it still sees limited use for special events and by gliders and occasionally small piston aircraft, most from the local flying club Aeroclub Valkenburg. Current plans are to use the area for housing development, but part of the former air base may remain in use for glider flying.

Het Rijnlands Lyceum Oegstgeest (informally RLO) is a secondary school in the town of Oegstgeest in South Holland, founded in 1956.Het Rijnlands Lyceum Oegstgeest is part of the Rijnlands Lyceum Foundation, which also contains other schools in the region, including the International School of The Hague and the European School of the Hague, and formerly the Rijnlands Lyceum Dubai. The school building was designed by Rudi Bleeker, and the newly built wing from 2004 was designed by Dirk Jan Postel.RLO alumni include many significant Dutch political or public figures (Including Cabinet minister Jet Bussemaker and current Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands Kajsa Ollongren).

Katwijk (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈkɑtʋɛik] (listen)), also spelled Katwyk, is a coastal municipality and town in the province of South Holland, which is situated in the mid-western part of the Netherlands. The Oude Rijn ("Old Rhine") river flows through the town and into the North Sea. Katwijk is located on the North Sea, northwest of Leiden and 16 km north of The Hague. It shares its borders with the municipalities of Noordwijk, Teylingen, Oegstgeest, Leiden, and Wassenaar. In August 2020, Katwijk had a population of 65.929 and covers an area of 31.15 km2 (12.03 sq mi), of which 6.40 km2 (2.47 sq mi) is water. Katwijk is by far the largest town in the Duin- en Bollenstreek ("Dune and Bulb Region").

Oegstgeest (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌuxstˈxeːst] (listen)) is a town and municipality in the province of South Holland in the western Netherlands. Its population was 24,426 in 2019.

The Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML) is an institute of the Faculty of Science of Leiden University in the Netherlands. The main area of work is research and education in the multidisciplinary field of environmental sciences. In 2009 the tenured and non tenured staff consists of about 28 fte including 4,5 fte supporting staff. The interdisciplinary character is reflected in the various staff members' backgrounds, such as: ecologists, chemical engineers, agricultural engineers, physicists etc.

De Beukenhof was a hotel-restaurant located in Oegstgeest, Netherlands. It was a former fine dining restaurant that was awarded one or two Michelin stars since 1957 up to 1995. The restaurant closed in 2014, due to bankruptcy.Head chef in the time of the Michelin stars was Koos van Fulpen. He retired in 1995.
