Fort Billingsport

The Tinicum Island Rear Range Light is a lighthouse located in the Billingsport section of Paulsboro, Gloucester County, New Jersey, United States, the rear of a pair of range lights marking a section of the channel in the Delaware River south of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The lighthouse, surrounded by ball fields next to the new marine terminal for the Port of Paulsboro, is still active for navigation on the Delaware River. It works in conjunction with the Tinicum Front Range Light, known as the Billingsport Front Light, situated on the banks of the Delaware River at the front of Fort Billings Park next to the Paulsboro Refinery. Front and rear range lighthouses guide sailors who, by aligning the two lights and keeping one light on top of the other, stay in its center and avoid Little Tinicum Island as they travel upstream.The Tinicum Island Range Lights were activated on New Year's Eve 1880. They had a visible range of 8.5 nautical miles (15.7 km; 9.8 mi). The lights were changed from oil to electric in 1917. The Coast Guard automated the lights in 1933. The light tower originally had a keeper's dwelling with seven rooms, along with a brick oil house, frame barn and barnyard, cow shed, poultry house, and privy on 4.8 acres (1.9 ha) of land. The dwelling buildings were demolished sometime in the 1950s after they fell into disrepair. The rear range lighthouse, which is owned by the United States Coast Guard, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 15, 2005.Tinicum Rear Range Lighthouse Society offers regular tours, including a climb to the top of the tower, the third full weekend of each month from April through October and special tours with advance notice. Paulsboro High School is a comprehensive community six-year public high school that serves students in seventh through twelfth grade from Paulsboro, in Gloucester County, New Jersey, United States, operating as the lone secondary school of the Paulsboro Public Schools. As of the 2019–20 school year, the school had an enrollment of 345 students and 28.3 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.2:1. There were 295 students (85.5% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and none eligible for reduced-cost lunch.Students in grades 9-12 from Greenwich Township attend Paulsboro High School as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Greenwich Township School District.

Paulsboro is a borough in Gloucester County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 6,097, reflecting a decline of 63 (-1.0%) from the 6,160 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn declined by 417 (-6.3%) from the 6,577 counted in the 1990 Census.Paulsboro was formed as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 2, 1904, from portions of Greenwich Township. It was named for Samuel Phillip Paul, son of a settler.

The Port of Paulsboro is located on the Delaware River and Mantua Creek in and around Paulsboro, in Gloucester County, New Jersey, United States, approximately 78 miles (126 km) from the Atlantic Ocean. Traditionally one of the nation's busiest for marine transfer operations, notably for crude oil and petroleum products, such as jet fuel and asphalt, it is a port of entry with several facilities within a foreign trade zone. A part of the port is being redeveloped as an adaptable deep water omniport able to handle a variety of bulk and break bulk cargo, as well as shipping containers. The Paulsboro Marine Terminal, as it is known, is owned by the South Jersey Port Corporation and operated by Holt Logistics. The first ship to call at the port, the Doric Warrior, carrying steel for NLMK, arrived March 3, 2017, marking the opening of the new facility. The port could become the site for the production the monopile foundations for turbines for the off-shore wind farm Ocean Wind.

On November 30, 2012, a daily freight train running on Conrail Shared Assets Operations Penns Grove Secondary derailed in Paulsboro, a borough with an industrial and maritime economy, in Gloucester County, New Jersey. As a result, vinyl chloride from one car leaked into the air. In 2023 several news reports drew parallels between this derailment and the 2023 Ohio train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, which also involved release of vinyl chloride.

Mantua Creek is a tributary of the Delaware River in Mantua Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey in the United States. Mantua Creek's headwaters are near Glassboro, flowing northwest for 18.6 miles (29.9 kilometers) to the Delaware River at the Port of Paulsboro in Paulsboro across from present-day Philadelphia International Airport.The name Mantua Creek is derived from the Native American word “Manta”, meaning frog, and was so named because of the remarkable chorus effect produced by abundant frogs in its watershed. Mantua Creek and its two major tributaries, Edwards Run and Chestnut Branch, drain over 50 square miles (130 km2) of Gloucester County.

Carpenter's Island, Pennsylvania is a historical location on the Delaware River in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, reportedly named for the Carpenter family who purchased land on the island in the late 17th century, originally located near the mouth of the Schuylkill River, just north of Hog Island, Philadelphia, PennsylvaniaOver time, Hog Island migrated north into Carpenter's Island; the area is now the Philadelphia International Airport. Carpenter's Island appears on a 1753 map of Philadelphia and adjacent areas drawn by Nicolas Scull and George Heap, is mentioned in American Revolutionary War histories about action on the Delaware River in late 1777, and is shown on a 1785 map drawn by William Faden. Alternate names are Carpenters Island, Cock's Island, Cocks Island, Fisher's Island, Fishers Island, and Peter Cock's Island.

Hog Island is the historic name of an area southeast of Tinicum Township, Pennsylvania along the Delaware River, to the west of the mouth of the Schuylkill River. Philadelphia International Airport now sits on the land that was once Hog Island.

International Plaza, formerly known as Scott Plaza, is an office complex in Tinicum Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. It is the former corporate headquarters of the Scott Paper Company. The facility is next to the Philadelphia International Airport and south of Pennsylvania Route 291.

The Philadelphia TRACON/ATCT is located at the Philadelphia International Airport and is a TRACON (Terminal Radar Approach Control) with Up-and-Down capabilities which means it includes both a TRACON and ATCT (Air Traffic Control Tower) in the same facility. The facility is "sectorized" into two sectors for the controllers. "A-side" controllers, work the tower, and half the radar room. "B-side" controllers work the entire radar room (POM). Philadelphia International Airport is a level 12 facility and the TRACON works on an average of 2,800 daily movements; the ATCT handles about 1,700 operations per day.The primary responsibility of the Philadelphia TRACON/ATCT is the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of arrival, departure, and en route traffic. PHL TRACON's main responsibility is obviously Philadelphia International Airport. Additionally, they offer approach and departure services to several other satellite airports near PHL; Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE), New Castle Airport (ILG) in Wilmington, Delaware, Trenton Mercer Airport (TTN) in Trenton, New Jersey and several smaller General Aviation fields such as Wings Field (LOM) in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, Heritage Field Airport (PTW) in Pottstown, PA and Brandywine Airport (OQN) in West Chester, Pennsylvania. The TRACON's airspace overlies a total of four states including New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and extreme north east Maryland.
