Coyote Point Recreation Area

CuriOdyssey is a science museum and zoo for children and families where visitors see wild animals up-close and play with kid-friendly science exhibits. CuriOdyssey is home to nearly 100 rescued animals, most native to California, that cannot survive in the wild. CuriOdyssey's custom-designed exhibits are a science playground where kids play with scientific phenomena, including physical forces, perceptions, and reflections, patterns in nature and backyard science. Located at 1651 Coyote Point Drive in San Mateo, California, it is part of the Coyote Point Recreation Area, which overlooks the San Francisco Bay. The museum was founded in 1954 as the San Mateo County Junior Museum, and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). CuriOdyssey connects kids to nature with daily public animal feedings and educational programs where visitors meet the museum's Animal Ambassadors. CuriOdyssey is a member of the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). CuriOdyssey also participates in the Museums for All program, offering free admission and reduced-cost membership to qualifying families.

Rancho San Mateo was a 6,439-acre (26.06 km2) Mexican land grant on the San Francisco Peninsula, in present day San Mateo County, California. It was given in 1846 by Governor Pio Pico to Cayetano Arenas.Rancho San Mateo extended from the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains to San Francisco Bay. It included Coyote Point, about one-half the present city of San Mateo, all of Burlingame and most of Hillsborough.

The General Frank M. Coxe was a steam ferry which was built for the United States Army to provide transportation services among several military facilities that ring California's San Francisco Bay. The Army port facilities, including the vessels, throughout the bay were under the command of the San Francisco Port of Embarkation from its establishment in May 1932 through World War II and the Korean War. The 144-foot (44 m) ship's keel was laid on July 16, 1921, launched March 3, 1922, and delivered December 1, 1922, to the War Department by Charles Ward Engineering Works. Coxe and sister-ship USAT General John McE. Hyde were designed and built shortly after World War I to ferry army personnel to island bases in strategic harbors, in answer to the increasing military importance of the Pacific ports. Prior to the availability of the current system of bridges and highways in San Francisco Bay, mobility on the water was critical. It is estimated that the General Frank M. Coxe carried six million passengers during her military service.

San Mateo High School is a National Blue Ribbon comprehensive four-year public high school in San Mateo, California, United States. It serves grades 9–12 and is part of the San Mateo Union High School District.

The Pacific Rim International School (PRINTS) is an independent school for all grades of pre-collegiate education located in San Mateo, California and Emeryville, California in the United States. The school is trilingual, educating students in English, Mandarin, and Japanese.

Stanbridge Academy is a K–12 school for students with mild to moderate learning differences and social communication challenges. Stanbridge Academy was founded in 1982, and its campus is located in San Mateo, California, United States.The school's mission statement is: "Stanbridge Academy is a caring, inclusive K–12 school for students with mild to moderate learning differences and social communication disorders. We use an individualized, whole student approach so that students thrive and develop their academic, social, and emotional capabilities to their fullest potential."In May 2018, Stanbridge Academy was accepted as a member of the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) for a seven-year maximum accreditation term. In November 2017, Stanbridge Academy's accreditation with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) was also renewed for the maximum seven years.

The Burlingame Museum of Pez Memorabilia, located in Burlingame, California, opened in 1995 and was run by Gary and Nancy Doss, who had been collecting Pez dispensers for more than a decade. The Doss couple initially ran a computer store and displayed some of their dispensers in the store, when they discovered that customers were more interested in the dispensers than in the computers. The museum claimed to have had an example of every Pez dispenser ever sold, including a Wonder Woman dispenser autographed by Lynda Carter and a Garfield dispenser autographed by Jim Davis.In 2004, the museum expanded and added the Classic Toy Museum, which featured well-known toys and related memorabilia. Toys on display included Tinker Toys, Erector Sets, Lincoln Logs, Mr. Potato Head, View-Masters, Colorforms, Lego, Play-Doh, Slinkys, and more. Part of the display included the Banned Toys Museum, which featured toys that were recalled or banned for a variety of reasons, such as for safety or appropriateness. The museum permanently closed in July 2019.

Japan Air Lines Flight 2 was a scheduled passenger flight on November 22, 1968. The plane was a new Douglas DC-8-62 named Shiga (志賀), flying from Tokyo International Airport (Haneda) to San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Due to heavy fog and other factors, Captain Kohei Asoh mistakenly ditched the plane near Coyote Point in the shallow waters of San Francisco Bay, two and a half miles short of the runway. None of the 96 passengers and 11 crew were injured in the landing.

Burlingame station is a Caltrain commuter rail station in Burlingame, California. The station building was constructed in the Spanish Colonial Revival and Mission Revival architecture styles in 1894, opening for service on October 10 of that year. 18th-century tiles from the Mission San Antonio de Padua at Jolon and the Mission Dolores Asistencia at San Mateo were used for the station roof.The station was designated a California Historical Landmark in 1971 and added to the National Register of Historic Places as Burlingame Railroad Station in 1978.Burlingame has two side platforms serving the line's two tracks. Until 2008, the station had a southbound side platform and a narrow island platform between the tracks - a common configuration at Southern Pacific stations. This required use of the hold-out rule, where only one train could be at the station as a time. The northbound side platform was completed on February 25, 2008, followed by a new southbound platform on April 1, thus eliminating the hold-out rule.

San Mateo station is the northernmost of the three Caltrain stations in San Mateo, California. It is in downtown San Mateo.

Burlingame High School is a public high school in Burlingame, California. It is part of the San Mateo Union High School District (SMUHSD).

The National Bank of San Mateo, at 164 S. B St. in San Mateo, California, is a Beaux Arts-style bank built in 1924. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.It is one of three San Mateo buildings designed by "pioneer California architect" William H. Weeks; and it was built by contractor Samuel A. Wisnom.In 1955 the local bank was absorbed by, and became a branch of, the Crocker-Anglo Bank. In the 1980s, Wells Fargo absorbed Crocker-Anglo, found this branch to be redundant, and closed it.It is the only example of Beaux Arts style in San Mateo, and was deemed to be a significant example of the style, despite the instance being somewhat watered-down and late relative to most other works in the style, including those of Weeks.
