Jove or Xove is one of the twenty-six parishes within the municipality of Gijón, in Asturias, Spain, part of the West district of the city. Previously to be integrated in Gijón, Roces was one of the historical parishes of the city. Its population was 1,579 in 1995 and grew to 3,189 in 2012.Jove is located on the western coast of Gijón. It borders the city in the east, and with the municipality of Carreño in the west. El Musel port is located in this district.

Gijón (Spanish: [xiˈxon]) or Xixón (Asturian: [ʃiˈʃoŋ]) is a city and municipality in north-western Spain. It is the largest city and municipality by population in the autonomous community of Asturias. It is located on the coast of the Cantabrian Sea in the Bay of Biscay, in the central-northern part of Asturias; it is approximately 24 km (15 mi) north-east of Oviedo, the capital of Asturias, and 26 km (16 mi) from Avilés. However, due to the decline in manufacturing in these industries, in recent years Gijón is undergoing a transformation into an important tourist, university, commercial and R&D center. Gijón is the location of the Radiotelevisión del Principado de Asturias, the neighbourhood of Cimavilla, the Universidad Laboral de Gijón, the Revillagigedo Palace, and the adjoining Collegiate Church of San Juan Bautista. Gijón is part of the statistical (not yet developed from an administrative standpoint) comarca of Gijón.

The Gijón International Film Festival (Asturian: Festival Internacional de Cine de Xixón or FICXixón) is an annual film festival held in Gijón, a city in northwest Spain. The festival is mainly concentrated on independent and auteur cinema. Gijón's International Short Film Competition qualifies for Oscar and the Goya Awards.

The siege of Gijón, one of the first actions in the Spanish Civil War, saw the anarchist militia crushing a small Nationalist garrison in Gijón, between 19 July and 16 August 1936. The militia – nominally fighting in defense of the Republic – laid siege to the Simancas barracks in the city of Gijón. These were defended by about 180 soldiers and Guardia Civil officers who had risen in support of General Franco's rebellion and seized the post for the Nationalists. The battle was remarkable for its viciousness and the stubbornness of the besieged.

El Musel is a seaport located in the north of Spain in Asturias, and in the middle point of the Cantabrian Sea coast, it is the Port of Gijón as a gateway to Europe through the A-66 and A-8 highways, allowing direct access to the west and centre of the Iberian Peninsula.
