Moses Gate

Moses Gate railway station serves the Moses Gate suburb of Farnworth in the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, Greater Manchester, North West England. It lies on the Manchester-Preston Line 1+1⁄4 miles (2.0 km) south of Bolton, though only local services run by Northern call here. Until the late 1970s, Moses Gate was one of the more important stations on the line between Manchester Victoria and Bolton, with Sunday service and high patronage. But due to clearance of much housing in the area, use has declined (see Strategic Rail Authority figures) although it retains an hourly service (see National Rail Timetable). Moses Gate is the nearest railway station to the village of Little Lever. The station was staffed until the early 1990s, but the station buildings were badly damaged in an arson attack and subsequently demolished. It is now unmanned and has no ticketing facilities (passengers intending to travel must buy tickets in advance or on the train). Shelters and timetable posters are located on both platforms; though there are ramps to each platform, the National Rail Enquiries entry for the station states that it is not currently (December 2016) DDA-compliant.From early May 2015 until the December 2015 timetable change, services from the station were suspended and replaced by buses due to the ongoing modernisation work here (where the platforms have been rebuilt, ahead of planned electrification of the line) and on the route further south at Farnworth Tunnel. The station reopened on 14 December 2015.

The Shakespeare is a Grade II listed public house at 1 Glynne Street, Farnworth, Greater Manchester BL4 7DN.It is on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.It was built in 1926 for Magee Marshall, Brewer, of Bolton.

Farnworth Town Hall is a municipal building in Market Street, Farnworth, Greater Manchester, England. The town hall, which was the headquarters of Farnworth Borough Council, is a grade II listed building.

The Municipal Borough of Farnworth was a local government district centred on the town of Farnworth in the administrative county of Lancashire, England. A local board of health had been established for Farnworth in 1863, which was reconstituted as an urban district in 1899, before being granted a charter of incorporation to become a municipal borough in 1939. Following abolition of the local authority in 1974, Farnworth became an unparished area of the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton in Greater Manchester.

Harper Green School is a coeducational secondary school located in Farnworth, Greater Manchester, England. On 1 March 2017 the school converted into an Academy along with Rivington and Blackrod High School. The school is part of Leverhulme Academy Trust. Built around a central quad, it became comprehensive in 1982. The school is housed in a mixture of traditional and modern buildings where there are facilities for a wide range of activities and interests. The accommodation facilities include 23 general classrooms, two music rooms, recording studio, theatre, eight ICT rooms, two dance studios, 11 science laboratories and three art and design workshops including specialist facilities for ceramics, printmaking and ICT. The sports facilities include indoor and outdoor tennis courts, large sports hall and gymnasium and extensive playing fields including Astroturf, soccer and hockey pitch. It also runs groups after-school studying dance and examination coursework.The school houses the Alan Ball Sports Hall, as well as the Peter Kay Theatre. In 2006, Peter Kay filmed a music video at Harper Green with the Scottish band Texas.

Farnworth railway station serves the town of Farnworth, in the Greater Manchester, England. The station underwent several name changes before the present name was adopted in 1974.It lies on the Manchester-Preston Line 8+1⁄2 miles (13.7 km) north of Manchester Victoria, though only local services run by Northern Trains call here. The station received a minor upgrade in 2009, with the addition of automated electronic information display systems and automated announcements audio system similar to the system at Lostock station. A more substantial rebuild, involving platform realignment, was undertaken in 2015-2016 as part of works to electrify the Manchester-Preston line. The station has a ticket office, which is manned from 06:30 to 13:00 on weekdays only (closed Saturdays and Sundays). Outside of these times, tickets must be purchased on the train or prior to travel. Step-free access to both platforms is via ramps from the station entrance.

Century Mill, Farnworth is a former cotton spinning mill in Farnworth, Bolton, Greater Manchester, England which was built in the early 20th century for ring spinning. It was taken over by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation in the 1930s and passed to Courtaulds in 1964. The 6,674.00-square-metre (71,838.3 sq ft) building is still in use for various other purposes in 2016.

The River Tonge is a short river, splitting Bolton from contiguous Tonge, both in Greater Manchester, England. The Tonge is formed at the Meeting of the Waters, where Astley Brook, from Smithills in the west, meets the Eagley Brook drawing on more sources to the north. The Tonge meanders southwards, to the east of Bolton, past Springfield where it is joined by Bradshaw Brook, at the end of its route from the Jumbles and Wayoh reservoirs, close to Tonge Fold. The Tonge joins the smaller and thus counterintuitively superseding Croal at Darcy Lever, shortly before the Croal's confluence with the River Irwell. Tonge Bridge section is a tract north of Tonge Bridge designated as a site of special scientific interest (SSSI). The 0.7-hectare (1.7-acre) site comprises the steep west right bank of the river. It was designated an SSSI 1987 for its geological interest, principally the fluvial sandstone which has yielded pteridosperm seeds, known as Trigonocarpus. The well preserved nature of the seeds make it of considerable sedimentological and palaeogeographic interest. It is one of only seven geological SSSIs in Greater Manchester. In 2017, invasive walking catfish Clarias were recovered from the river.

St John the Evangelist's Church is in Church Street, Farnworth, Greater Manchester, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Bolton, the archdeaconry of Bolton, and the diocese of Manchester. Its benefice is united with those of St Peter, Farnworth, Holy Trinity, Prestolee, and St Saviour, Ringley. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

The Bolton WtE is a waste power station constructed in 1971 in Bolton, and is a major landmark of its skyline. The incinerator burns up to 20 tonnes (22 tons) of household waste per hour or 85,000 t (94,000 tons) per year, and can generate up to 11 MW of electricity. The plant is operated by Suez Recycling and Recovery UK. The Bolton incinerator is the only household waste incinerator in Greater Manchester.
