Banana Island, Lagos

On 1 November 2021, a high-rise block of luxury flats under construction in the neighbourhood of Ikoyi in Lagos, Nigeria, collapsed. At least 42 people died. The government of Lagos State is conducting an investigation.

The Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, is a 1.36 km (0.84 mile) cable-stayed bridge in Lagos State. It links the Phase 1 area of Lekki, with Ikoyi district of Lagos. The bridge was commissioned on 29 May 2013 by the Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola.

Lagos Preparatory & Secondary School (LPSS) is a private co-educational day school in the affluent Ikoyi suburb of Lagos, Nigeria, and has adopted the UK National Curriculum; it was established in 2002. LPSS which was formerly known as LPS, provides Early Years, Primary and Secondary school education for children from 18 months up to age 16+.

Ikoyi is the most affluent neighborhood of Lagos, located in Eti-Osa Local Government Area. It lies to the northeast of Obalende and adjoins Lagos Island to the west, and at the edge of the Lagos Lagoon. Popular with the extreme upper class residents of Nigerian society, Ikoyi is arguably one of the wealthiest communities within Nigeria. The area that makes up Ikoyi was originally a continuous land mass with Lagos Island, until it was separated from by MacGregor canal, a narrow waterway that was dug by the British colonial government. This canal has now been built over or filled so that the island is fused with Lagos Island once again. It has been called in derogatory terms as the "Beverly Hills by the slum" or the Belgravia of Lagos.

Corona School, Ikoyi is a co-educational private school for children from ages 5 to 11. The school is a member of the Council of British International Schools, the Association of International Schools in Africa and governed by the Corona Schools' Trust Council

KEY (Keep Educating Yourself) Academy is a Nigerian primary and secondary academic institution based in Lagos, Nigeria. Founded in 2019, it focuses on project-based learning (PBL) to equip students with 21st-century skills. In 2025, KEY Academy was named as a Top 10 finalist for the World's Best School Prize for Innovation.

4 Bourdillon is one of the tallest residential buildings in West Africa. It is located on the corner of Bourdillon and Thompson Road, Ikoyi, Lagos. It is a Twin Tower of 25 Floors comprising 41 apartments (Flats, Duplex Flats and Duplex Penthouses). The 41 Units have 3 and 4 Bedroom Flats and 5-Bedroom Duplex Flats and Duplex Penthouses. The building's other features include greenery, water-bodies, swimming pools, tennis court, gym and clubhouse with underground parking. It's penthouses have roof gardens and curved balconies. It's glazed balustrade allows a 360-degree view of Lagos Island. The building was designed by architects Design Group Nigeria, P&T group and developed by Kaizen Properties and El-Alan Group. El-Alan was also the main contractor. Construction started in 2015 and completed in early 2020.

The MUSON Centre (Musical Society of Nigeria) is a performance hall in Lagos. The multipurpose civic auditorium is located in the heart of Lagos Island, situated between the National Museum, the City Mall, the Onikan Stadium and the former official residence of Nigeria's Governors-General, and adjacent to Tafawa Balewa Square.

On the night of 20 October 2020, at about 6:50 p.m., members of the Nigerian Army opened fire on unarmed End SARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos State, Nigeria. Amnesty International stated that at least 12 protesters were killed during the shooting. A day after the incident, on 21 October, the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-olu, initially denied reports of any loss of lives, but later admitted in an interview with a CNN journalist that "only two persons were killed".The Nigerian Army initially denied involvement in the shooting, but later stated that it had deployed soldiers to the toll gate on the orders of the governor of Lagos State. A month after the shooting, following a CNN documentary on the shooting, the Nigerian Army admitted to the Lagos Judiciary panel of inquiry into the shooting that it had deployed its personnel to the toll gate with both live and blank bullets.

The Palms Shopping Mall is located on a 45,000-square-metre (11-acre) plot of land in Lekki, Lagos State. It has 21,000 square metres (5 acres) of lettable retail space. The mall was built on swampland that was reclaimed by the government recently and construction was commissioned by the Oba of Lagos and President Obasanjo. The mall, which opened in late 2005, has 69 stores and a modern six screen cinema. There is parking space for about 1000 cars. The Palms Shopping Mall (up until Polo park opens in Enugu) is the second largest shopping mall by gross leasable area after Ado Bayero Mall located in Kano and first of its kind in Nigeria. The mall is owned by Persianas Properties Limited (Part of the Persianas Group), promoted by Nigerian Businessman Tayo Amusan, a Nigerian property developer. The Persianas Group is also developing similar shopping malls in Enugu (Polo Park Mall) and in Kwara (Kwara Mall) - expected to commence trading in the 3rd quarter of 2011. Several other projects are also underway in other parts of Nigeria.

British International School Lagos (BIS) is a British international school in Oniru Private Estate in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria. Opening in 2001, the school provides a British curriculum to day and boarding students aged 11–18. A broad range of IGCSE and A Level courses are available for study. The pupil body comprises girls and boys from Nigerian and expatriate families. Classes are small and there is a comprehensive co-curricular programme available after school each day. The campus is a large one, with the teaching buildings surrounded by playing fields, within which can be found a swimming pool along with tennis and basketball courts. The teaching staff comprise both expatriate and locally qualified teachers. The current principal is Kelvin Donnelly, who joined the school in 2021 having worked in many schools in US, Malaysia, Cameroon and UK. The school received an excellent inspection report from COBIS in the summer of 2018.
