Neils Island (sometimes called Neil Island) is a former island in Sonoma County, California, close to (and formerly surrounded by wetlands of) the Petaluma River, upstream of San Pablo Bay (an embayment of San Francisco Bay). Its coordinates are 38°11′27″N 122°34′41″W, and the United States Geological Survey measured its elevation as 82 ft (25 m) in 1981. It appears in a 1954 USGS map of the region.

Tolay Lake is a shallow freshwater lake in southern Sonoma County, California, United States. The lake, nestled within the southern vestiges of the Sonoma Mountains, is the site of significant Native American prehistoric seasonal settlement. In 2005, Sonoma County acquired the entirety of the lake and virtually its whole drainage basin from the Cardoza family for the sum of $18 million; the county's intention is to utilize the property as Tolay Lake Regional Park for ecological and archaeological preservation, as well as public use and enjoyment. Tolay Lake and its immediate drainage area is home to several nesting pairs of golden eagles, Aquila chrysaetos, and a number of rare, threatened or endangered species including the California red-legged frog, Rana draytonii; Western pond turtle, Actinemys marmorata; and Western burrowing owl, Athene cunicularia. Tolay Lake was initially altered about 1850 by European settlers who dynamited a natural earth dam on the lake's south side, in order to enable more intensive agricultural cultivation and grazing of the basin; at times thereafter, the lake typically became almost dry in the summer months, when rainfall in this region is at its seasonal nadir. Another modern alteration is the construction of an east–west earthen causeway that effectively bisects the lake, impeding thorough water circulation and fragmenting plant and animal colonies of the lake.

San Antonio Creek is a northward then eastward-flowing stream in the California, United States, counties of Marin and Sonoma that forms part of the boundary between those counties. It empties into the tidal portion of the Petaluma River.

Hog Island is an island in the wetlands of the Petaluma River in Sonoma County, California, located at 38°09′33″N 122°32′18″W near the Marin County line. San Antonio Creek enters the river just west of this island. It is mentioned in a newspaper article from 1914.There are two other islands with the same name in the Bay area: Hog Island, in Tomales Bay in Marin County, and Hog Island in the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta in San Joaquin County.

Burdell Island (or Mira Monte) is a former island in the Petaluma River, upstream of San Pablo Bay (an embayment of San Francisco Bay). While it was previously surrounded by water and swampland, it is now surrounded mostly by dry land (although it remains much higher than surrounding land). It is part of Marin County, California. Its coordinates are 38°09′22″N 122°33′17″W, and the United States Geological Survey gave its elevation as 52 ft (16 m) in 1981. It appears in a 1954 USGS map of the region.

Olompali State Historic Park is a 700-acre (2.8 km2) California State Park in Marin County, California. It is constituted of the former Rancho Olómpali and was the site of the famed Battle of Olómpali during the Bear Flag Revolt. Rancho Olómpali was purchased by the Californian government in 1977, which turned it into a public park.

The Battle of Olómpali was fought on June 24, 1846, between a rebel group supporting an independent California Republic and a Mexican army force under the command of Joaquín de la Torre. It was the only battle of the Bear Flag Revolt. The encounter took place in present-day Marin County, California at a site that is now part of the Olompali State Historic Park.

Olompali (Coast Miwok:Õlõmpõ'llï; Spanish: Olómpali) is a former Native American settlement in Marin County, California. It was located 5 miles (8 km) south of Petaluma.Its site now lies within the Olompali State Historic Park.

Alvarado Street Bakery is a worker-owned bakery located in Petaluma, California that produces certified organic whole grain breads and bagels. Alvarado was featured in the 2009 Michael Moore documentary, Capitalism: A Love Story.Alvarado is organized as a worker cooperative and each employee receives one share in the cooperative. The shares grant each employee an equal vote on business matters, including employee benefits, salaries and the reinvestment of profits. As of 2009, more than half of the employees had been with the company for over 15 years and the average worker earns between $65,000 and $70,000 a year.
